I would avoid this course right now, three greens punched and sanded, areas of the rough in bad shape with very spotty coverage, granted it is the rough, but the areas were close to greens and areas that should be much better. Sand was great and service great across the board. Tee boxes ok and mostly level. I just have high expectations for a course priced like this and don’t expect sanded greens and spotty conditions

Played Aviara this morning as the “premiere” course of the So Cal trip. Aviara Golf and Hotel is always one of my favorite places and this trip was no different as the course and staff were in top form. Course has great layout starting down at the lagoon, winding up the hill then back down to the lagoon. Course has three super scenic par 3’s along some other water features on the track. The 18th tee box offers views of the lagoon and the clubhouse sitting behind the lake and 18th green.

Greens are large at Aviara (lookup the story about the wrong scale on the blueprint) and have multiple undulations, so being on the correct tier or area of the green is key. Greens rolled very smooth at a medium pace. I actually thought they might start rolling faster in the afternoon but they stayed constant.

Fairways were excellent. They were a beautiful emerald green and provided a nice lush hitting surface. Rough on the other hand was brutal. Very penal. Bunkers provided good quality sand throughout and the tee boxes were also in top shape.

Staff is the best, bar none. The bar/restaurant overlooking the 18th green and lagoon is a must. Yes it’s pricey but the food and the view make it worth the price of admission.

Obviously, Aviara is a highly recommended course.

The fairways are getting much better. They've punched and sanded 2-3 greens and will continue to aerate a few greens at a time. The rest of the course is in very good shape, but the course has never been busier. Even on weekdays, the course is packed from sunrise to sunset.

Played on Sunday Nov. 15th, 8:40 t-time. Course was in near immaculate conditions. They over seeded rough about four weeks ago and as result had not mowed in sometime so needless to say, you really needed to stay in fairway to have good shots at par or better. Greens are enormous but are very tricky with breaks everywhere. Additionally, as a tribute to Augusta during Masters Sunday, they had all pin placements in most difficult spots and all within 6-10' of fringe. POP was not ideal (approx 4:45) but was because we had some poor golfers ahead of us. All in all me and my crew were highly impressed and will be playing there again very soon!!!

We play Aviara a few times per month and the conditions are almost always perfect, so there's not much to update in terms of course conditions. But we played twice this week, and the course--while still in near-perfect condition--appears to be undergoing some slight maintenance tweaks:

(1) The rough is shorter than I recall ever seeing it during the past 12-18 months;
(2) The fairways are a bit more firm; and
(3) They continue to thin out the surrounding trees (dramatically so on No. 17)

As usual, course conditions are superb. Greens 9 & 18 were recently punched and sanded, but still very playable (and surprisingly fast).

The course was tentatively planning to close for 6-9 months for a general refresher/remodel--rebuilding certain greens, replacing the grass on the greens, rebuilding and moving a few bunkers, and modifying a few tees. But it sounds like that project has been put on hold and will likely not happen for at least another year (if at all).
