Fairways are dormant grass and—in some spots—dirt. I don’t know how they will improve over the next few months because the fairways are dormant/dead. The rough is very lush and—in some spots—a muddy bog. Great course, but conditions are a little off.

Played on Sunday Nov. 15th, 8:40 t-time. Course was in near immaculate conditions. They over seeded rough about four weeks ago and as result had not mowed in sometime so needless to say, you really needed to stay in fairway to have good shots at par or better. Greens are enormous but are very tricky with breaks everywhere. Additionally, as a tribute to Augusta during Masters Sunday, they had all pin placements in most difficult spots and all within 6-10' of fringe. POP was not ideal (approx 4:45) but was because we had some poor golfers ahead of us. All in all me and my crew were highly impressed and will be playing there again very soon!!!

Course is overseeding the rough on the front 9 (with some cart restrictions) and will be overseeding the rough on the back 9 next week. They are not overseeding the fairways this year.

We play Aviara a few times per month and the conditions are almost always perfect, so there's not much to update in terms of course conditions. But we played twice this week, and the course--while still in near-perfect condition--appears to be undergoing some slight maintenance tweaks:

(1) The rough is shorter than I recall ever seeing it during the past 12-18 months;
(2) The fairways are a bit more firm; and
(3) They continue to thin out the surrounding trees (dramatically so on No. 17)

As usual, course conditions are superb. Greens 9 & 18 were recently punched and sanded, but still very playable (and surprisingly fast).

The course was tentatively planning to close for 6-9 months for a general refresher/remodel--rebuilding certain greens, replacing the grass on the greens, rebuilding and moving a few bunkers, and modifying a few tees. But it sounds like that project has been put on hold and will likely not happen for at least another year (if at all).

Met some friends from out of town yesterday on a beautiful S CA golf day. Have not played here in years and should not have waited so long to come back. Wonderful location with great customer service.... Continue »

Met some friends from out of town yesterday on a beautiful S CA golf day. Have not played here in years and should not have waited so long to come back. Wonderful location with great customer service. We had to play CPO for the first 9 due to over seeding (which was in great shape) but not the back. Fairways were all in good to great shape, with no issues in regards to roll/lies. Tee boxes excellent. Traps had excellent sand to play from. Greens were in fantastic shape for chipping/putting and had great speed. If you have the chance to play here, do so.

Played Sat 9/21, shotgun. I love this layout. It's one of my favorite courses in SoCal. It was not in great shape. Super soggy. Either they struggled all summer with the heat, and are having a hard time managing the water... or they are prepping for overseeding. Seems like the course was soggy a month ago, so who knows? Greens were a slow 11... in great shape, except for 2 which looked like they were punched 3 weeks ago and a little hairy. Many of the bunkers seemed like they were in very average condition. I'm sure it will bounce back, but if you are paying rack rate, you might be disappointed.

Teed off this morning about 7:30 and finished right around 4 1/2 hours. Overall conditions are pretty darn good.

Teed off this morning about 7:30 and finished right around 4 1/2 hours. Overall conditions are pretty darn good.

There was a lot of water out there which I assume was from the over night watering. I had several mud balls which seemed odd. It was a little warm towards the afternoon so maybe it was in preparation of the heat? Overall the fairways were great but obviously not a lot of roll out. There were a couple of roped off areas but they seemed to be small in size. It was cart path only on 2 holes (which I already forgotten).

Rough was not as deep as I remember but around the greens it'll get you attention. I didn't think it was too penal but not sure I would try ripping 3 woods out of them.

Bunkers were really good. They all seemed raked, at least the ones I noticed. Not too soft that balls embeded but not thin either that your shot hit clay or dirt.

Greens were great still a little soft as approach shots could make some pretty deep ball marks. The good news is I didn't really see much in the way of unrepaired ones. I thought the pace picked up quite a bit as the day wore on. The pins had some little sneaky breaks at the end near the holes. Needless to say I didn't drop any putts today, nothing new there.

Customer service was fabulous. Everyone from the guys in the club house, starter, marshal and the cart attendants were very gracious. The rack rate may be pretty pricey but I know they always have deals thru underpar, scga, etc. If you're holding one of those now might be a good time to consider using it.

Wish this would go away from golf.

POP not great. Got stuck behind all these foursomes and really couldn't stand it.
For that green fee it is simply unacceptable, to my POV.

But for that price I can't really justify playing it again.

No trip to San Diego is comp,eye without playing Aviara! It's definitely on if my top 5 if not top 3 courses anywhere. Customer service is absolutely the best bar none. I'd rate the overall conditions at an 8-8.5. Greens were rolling perfectly smooth with hardly a pitch mark to be found. Speed was medium-slow which surprised me. Normally the greens are faster here. Greens are large with normal amount of undulations.

Fairways were a straight 8. Lush and pleasant to hit from but I'd say a notch below the fairways at Maderas. Tee boxes were closer to a 9 than an 8. Level lush and even the par 3 tee boxes were relatively divot free.

Rough was brutal! Very thick and penal. Rough was lush but very easy for your ball to sit down. Often a full club extra to get out of the rough.

Layout is a blast and Aviara has three of the prettiest par 3's anywhere.

A definite must play track.
