Got invited by GKer "Rstang06" aka Fast Willie to play in the Saturday club 08/06. First time playing this course, but had received a lot of info to prep me up a bit.

As a more previous review stated, there are a few temp. tee boxes as they are prepping the back tees for the upcoming City Championship. No big deal...all good.

Fairways were decent for sure....good grass, though a little wet in many spots.

Rough....the first cut was fine, getting long and ready to test the cities best.

Outside the Rough....good grief, these guys like using "DG" aka "decomposed granite" and I will say that is somewhat challenging to hit on the mark shots from.....I didn't want to be in it...I knew not to be in it....and managed to set the tone early by hitting into it on the opening tee shot.

Greens - very nice...smooth, medium speed...played with guys that knew the odd breaks so I got good input to help me out.

I suspect this course would have some polarizing reviews....I kinda liked it.....and look forward to trying it again down the road.

This is an update from my early June review. Played here early AM on Thursday. Greens: smooth, medium to fast speed and "holding". Fairways: even better since my June review. Rough: TERRIBLE! weeds, animal mounds/tunnels or bare ground. Tees: 5 tee boxes are GUR (all the par 3's and #17). Many others are not level because of animal tunnels. Traps: playable if the previous players raked them after their shot. POP: 4 hours. Good grass driving range. No marshals to keep play moving. Snack bar is not open till late morning so get your coffee on the way to the course. Good rate if you are a senior resident otherwise a bit pricey for non-residents.

Played on Tuesday AM under cloudy skies.

Fairways: still some bare spots. About 70% of the fairways are in better than average condition.

Traps: decent sand.

The rough is terrible, no grass, plenty of weeds, animal holes and piles of dirt. The new turf reduction project is not very good. The decomposed granite/gravel and bark just adds to the mess off the fairways.

POP: just over 4 hours.

Nice driving range, they could use some new range balls.

Dawn patrol round here this morning, teeing off at first light. Was able to get ahead of a twosome on the first tee and it was pretty smooth sailing after that. It wasn't that busy out anyway with gloomy weather and potential rain. It did sprinkle on me a bit, but nothing bad. Walking rate of $30 and pace of under 3 hours.

I'll start with the positives in terms of conditions. The greens were in good shape. They were firm and rather quick. I was in one bunker and it had good sand. Otherwise, this course leaves a lot to be desired right now. The tee boxes, fairways and rough are all pretty bad. Very thin and spotty throughout. They are finishing up their turf reduction project, so there are big non-essential areas where they took out whatever grass was there. Some sections are just hard-packed sandy waste areas and other areas have bark. Hopefully this will help them focus more on getting the fairways back to something decent.

I've always had a soft spot for this course, but it's been quite awhile and it will likely be awhile before I give it another shot. It's an okay layout. Unfortunately, other than the greens the conditions are pretty mediocre and it just feels very run-down. I will say I always look forward to the 13th hole. Love that big drop-off on a short par-3 that is so tough to judge.

For whatever reason, this has always been one of my favorite courses to play. I find it interesting, fun, scoreable, and it just kind of "fits my eye". However, with the turf reduction, the entire ambiance of the golf course has changed!

I understand the reason and necessity of the process, but they also removed a great deal of the foliage which separated many of the holes. The course has a totally different look and feel, which I do not care for. I am not a fan of wood chips, so when the process is completed, the course will look and play even more differently.

The fairways are all dormant, brown and thin, which I accept given the drought situation and time of year. Greens are the best part of the course. They were as quick as I can ever recall them being. Much faster than they appeared! Our entire group struggled with the speed. They just seemed to roll out more than you would expect?

Staff was perfect, pace was fine, we were third off and finished in just over 3 hours (4some walking) Very cold at the start and very foggy at the finish, which was strange. Still had a great time, but very disappointed with the "new" look of Oceanside Muni.

Played on Tuesday at 8 AM for the first time since they aerated the greens.

Greens: in good condition considering they were aerated 3 weeks ago. Smooth, slow and "holding".

Fairway: better than average, with some bare spots.

Traps: some traps are OK but there are a few hard packed ones.

POP: just over 4 hours.

Rough: they have just started their turf reduction project, removing 24 acres of grass so there are crews working in the rough and it noisy. It will be interesting to see the results. They plan to fill in with mulch and decomposed granite. Probably take 3 months or more to complete the project. I will do more updates as I play there 3-4 times per month.

Played Oceanside golf course Saturday August 15 teed off around 2 PM as a twosome. Each paid $30 cart included which is a great deal for golf in the weekend in San Diego County.

Played Oceanside golf course Saturday August 15 teed off around 2 PM as a twosome. Each paid $30 cart included which is a great deal for golf in the weekend in San Diego County.

The course is in good shape if you stay where you are suppose to be but verge too far off the trail and you encounter bad conditions. The tee boxes are a little chewed up and some are sloping due to years of fat shots. The fairways are thin but playable and the balls rolls quite some distance after impact. The rough is the worst part I would say with sparse water the rough is very inconstant and completely gone in some places. The greens are the best part of the right now rolling at a medium fast speed and minimal damage.
Pace of play was good finished in around 4 hours playing a few mulligans here and there. Only saw the cart girl once but the bar was filled with people watching the PGA. I would recommend this course if your friends complain about the cost of golf. Playing from the tees to fairway to green they should not be able to complain about the conditions.

Fairways: some bare spot and unfilled divots but otherwise in decent condition. Rough: terrible, animal holes, weeds and many bare spots. POP: just over 4 1/2 hours. Traps: was not in any but they looked like they had decent sand.
