Played here today 6/15/14, with our son GKers (Mdkaplan90) (Kaupaupili) and Hubby (rstang06) in Honor of Father's Day. Best rate I could find anywhere ($40 w/cart @ 8:25 a.m.) Course was pretty packed all day. Excellent Driving range/and putting green practice areas. Exceptional customer service (as always) - maybe because hubby (rstang06) plays here on his Saturday men's league ;) Naaaaaaaaah....they're always pleasant. Food at the turn is Scrumptious! No GPS or any other phoo phoo stuff on carts; but course is very well marked to assist in estimating your approach shot yardage. Course can be tough. Seems like trouble on every hole; and I have a love/hate relationship with this course. Currently it's more toward the 'like a lot' mindset. ;) Fairways are still in pretty good shape and were easy to hit off of. Good roll outs with the occasional frustrating kick left/right. GUR areas marked fairly well, and some areas leading up to the greens cordoned off to keep carts from ruining the front approach area. Errant shots result in a 50/50 on if you'll be in some playable lie or scratching your head how to navigate a concrete like dirt patch, scruffy clump of some sort of weed, or ??? It is obvious though that they are putting effort in to improvements. Wind will play a factor on your shots at this course, depending on which direction you're headed toward the green and time of day you play. Mid-day and afternoon winds typically wreaking the most havoc on your tee shot launch of attack. Again, errant shots here are easily consumed by weeds/reeds/water. Bunkers are also a hit and miss here; but the one I got in/out of (Hole 1 -- I know, nice way to start the day riiiiiiiiight!), other than me not hitting through my '1st' attempt; my 2nd 'way to do it' shot was as a result of a fairly decent amount of playable sand. Unfortunately most are still a hard pack mix, with little to no fluffy sand. Tee boxes were in pretty good shape. I encountered a few that were a bit uneven where the red markers were placed. But overall not bad. Ball washers on each hole. Greens were AMAZING, as they are 95% of the time, but don't let them fool you...they have subtleties that will certainly have you writhing in frustration by fractional misses. Greens were very receptive with minimal ball marks. Rolled medium speeds and fairly true with the occasional bumpy line. Kakulia grass forces you to hit to the green, as hopes for a short roll up and on are futile, for the most part. Pace of play started out fairly slow as there was a twosome in front of us (with a 4-some in front of them), and the twosome became the slow down of 10 min per hole. Yes, I said a twosome. Mainly because it looked as though one was trying to teach the other how to golf, and they were criss cross applesauce all the way up the fairway, from one side of the rough/weeds to the other. They did quit at the turn and the rest of the round was easy breezy. (No I don't have issues with beginners - we all were at one time or another; and after all it was Father's Day and a packed course. ) In summary, my appreciation (fondness) of this course is slowly increasing as my game has on this course as well. It presents plenty of challenge and rewards. The staff are wonderful, the course is ever improving, practice facilities great, Greens the best part of the course, and simply a reasonably priced muni in all respects. (Note: They have their own online app you can download and you don't have to pay online booking service fees those others charge you; AND with your first online booking there is a coupon you can redeem for a FREE deli sandwich and a bucket of range balls. The more you book, the more points you can accumulate to go toward discounted green fees.) Now THAT's Good Business strategy. Wonder if they read 'that' book ;)

Played at 8 AM on 6/6. Greens Looked like they were not mowed this AM, slow and bumpy. Usually they are the best part of the course. Fairways Biggest change since my last review, the fairways were recently aerated so it was impossible to play the ball down. Lots of old plugs/holes all over the fairways. They are filling in the bare spots with sand and seed. Great to see them working on some improvements. Rough Really bad, lots and lots of bare spots and animal holes all over the place. Traps Traps had a decent amount of sand in them. POP was just over 4 hours.

Played here at 7:30 on April 18th for the first time since the greens have been punched and I must say the greens are recovering nicely, should be in great shape in another week. There were a few bare spots but the greens were "holding" and are running slow to medium.
Fairways: there are some bare sports but the fairways are in better than average condition, a few too many divots. Was surprised to see a few of the major bare spots in the fairways resodded.
Nice major resodding of the left side of 14 green.
Rough: terrible, many many bare spots and animal holes.
Traps: no report as I did not visit any :-)
Customer Service: Usual good job by Fred in the Pro Shop. Beverage cart visited us 3 times.
POP: 4 hours for our foursome.
Again, great price for Senior residents, $27 w/cart.

Greens: Best part of the course, medium to firm, smooth and "holding" Fairway: Dormant, very firm and a few more bare spots than the last time I played here(in Dec.) Rough: LOTS of bare spots and very firm. Traps: Plenty of sand but very fine consistency Customer Service: great service in the Pro Shop, no cart girl or marshall. POP: just under 4 hours. Great deal, $27 with cart, if you are a Senior and a resident of O'side.

Play Oceanside often, the staff is great, course has good tee boxes and good greens, the fairways are bermuda and are not real green in the winter months, but they still play good.The bunkers have a finer grain sand than most courses and may take a little getting used to. If your looking for soft fairways begging you to take a divot this is not the place this time of year. The course is great for walkers and also forgiving for the players working on their game.

rstang06 and I had the day off so what better way to spend it than Golfing, Right!? (Too bad my A-Game decided to stay home - again! :( 1/17/2014 = Tee Time 8:30a.m., but didn't get sent off until 8:58 behind a bunch of 4-somes (we were sent out as a twosome; initially we were going to get paired with another twosome, but they were late/no show; hence why we didn't go out on time --which wasn't a major issue for us. By the 2nd Hole a Single behind us joined us and what a pleasure. Added to the overall enjoyment of the round. Temps in the 80's today. Arrived early to hit some balls on the grass driving range. $39 ea to play with cart and tokens for bucket of range balls. Pro Shop staff/Check-in was Great, as always. Still not Tip Top course conditions; but it was obvious they've been watering the fairways, (which look as though they were aerated within the last month, BUT rstang (who plays there in the Saturday Men's League) told me it was aerated over 3 Months ago, and it takes that course 3-4 months to recover. The frost, typical for this time of year, and amount of play, impacts the rate of recovery significantly. A few more weeks to a month (weather conditions hanging in there like the last week or two + a little more water and I believe the fairways will obviously play up nice. As is, even miss hits will result in good rolls for distance. Greens on this course are most noteworthy...they really try to manage them well. Rolled medium/fast throughout the day. Some greens a little shabby, but still rolled fairly consistent. A little bumpy at times, and the subtleties will keep you scratching your head in disbelief and frustration. Bunkers looked better than our last visit but I didn't get to test them out personally. Rough was scraggly, thin, hit or miss. Cart girl made her rounds today and was Very Pleasant and friendly, as were all the greens keepers, like busy lil bees, working diligently to improve/maintain course conditions. Certainly worth the price, and pace of play was fair at just over 4 and 1/2 hrs. Still a challenge no matter how frequently you play!!! Recommend early day tee times as the wind plays a factor on this course mid-day/late afternoons. Nice to see they have put up invisible line barriers adjacent to the 9th and 18th holes which, for the most part, keep the Coots off the greens. Coot Poop No Bueno!! ;) Just this novice golfin gals two cents worth :) P.S. Nice New golf balls in the ball dispensing machine :) and the Breakfast sandwich from the Snack shop was SCRUMPTIOUS!!

rstang06 and I started our New Year 1/1/2014 = Tee Time 8:30a.m. (Temp. 34 degrees/Frosty but thawing with the sun). $39. rate w/Cart and Practice Balls. Pro Shop staff/Check-in is exceptional as always. They always make you feel welcome. Driving Range is nice (grass), and there is a putting green adjacent to 1st Tee, and over behind the clubhouse (w/ a chipping area as well). Typical Winter brown out conditions, but not unplayable. Sun warmed up the course (and us) quickly, and by the 5th hole, we were finally getting our groove on (okay...maybe it took me til the 11th - my first Par of the morning). Bunkers were actually in pretty good shape (ones I found were easy to hit out of with plenty of sand...which was a little damp but again, still soft enough..and well raked). Rough was patchy, thin, hit or miss. Greens were firm, FAST, and somewhat bumpy. Very subtle breaks which were very difficult to read. Never saw so many well hit putts get there just to lip out around and back at you...frustrating. My least fav hole of the course #12...you better stay right or else. Tough hole that punishes even a well hit ball up the left side as the fairway slopes to the left and the cart path will funnel the ball back down the hill toward you and the tee. Hit your second shot too long over the back of the green and you're in for one heck of a shot back down and on to the green (which if too much, will roll all the way off and down the front face of the green/fringe). Oceanside is a Great muni and fares well with the amount of play it sees. Quaint little clubhouse and restaurant, and staff that are very friendly. No GPS on carts, ball washers on each hole, and no cart girl today, or during the week, but was told she is present on the weekends. Certainly worth the price, and pace of play was great at only 4hrs. A challenge no matter how frequently you play!!!

The course is really firming up, the fairways are dormant but have some body. There are lots of divots and bare spots. Greens are fast and firm but smooth with some bare spots. Rough is mostly dirt with only 30-40% grass, really bad. There is sand in the traps but since I did not get in any I don't know how it plays. POP is good on the front but really slows down on the back nine with no marshall in sight. Not a bad deal if you are a Oside resident.

I will confirm what the previous reviewer noted, from the Tee, fairway and green the course is in great shape for Oceanside Muni. The greens have "healed" very well from the early Oct aeration. The roughs are very rough, lots of bare spots. Great deal especially if you are an Oceanside resident!
