Played here in a SD Senior match TU in the AM. A very pleasant experience! First time I've played here in over 3 years and really enjoyed Willow Glen. We seniors play the white T's. Greens: have totally healed from the May aeration. They are smooth, medium to fast and holding so go pin hunting.... Fairways: excellent condition except for a few brown areas but really not a problem. Rough: 1 - 3" high with a few bare spots. Traps: worst part of this experience; sand as hard packed. Maybe if they raked them they would be a lot better. POP: just over 4 hours. Excellent practice area but you are hitting off mats. Good customer service. Good food after the round.

Beat the rain for the most part today, Sunday. $67 to walk, a little expensive, but I guess playing the weekends now, I have to expect it. At least we were one of the first groups off and the guys I play with are all fast and ready to go. Course is in pretty good shape overall. Greens were rolling nice, I couldn't figure them out, only my third time playing this track, the other guys in my group were making a few, but not me. I missed like 10 4footers. Fairways were pretty darn perfect. Rolling out nice and always had great lies in the fairway, they were in great shape. Teeboxes were just fine as well, they were fairly level and not very chewed up at all. Traps were in great shape, even though they were a little wet with the rain. Overall everything was in nice playable shape right now. They had a big SD Junior golf tournament so that might have helped the conditions of the course. Just not a fan of the rack rate, but you can get some deals out there once in a while, and they have a great deal for their stay and play.

Played Singing Hills . . . eerrrr "Sycuan", today. Sorry, this was the site of my first tax paying job back in '76 when it was Singing Hills (I also grew up on Singing Hills Drive just up the hill), and yes I hold a bit of bias for the place!
Ended up playing with fellow GKer london1 (yes, he is from London, England) and his brother, quite by kismet. Our fourth happened to be a GK lurker! We're all GKers now!

On to the review!
Tee boxes: level, with grass
Fairways: never had a bad lie, most sat up very nicely
Rough: not deep, but enough to get your attention when playing out of it
Bunkers: the couple I was in were very nice
Greens: excepted shots well, mostly rolled nice with a couple bumps here and there, but were just a touch slow, but overall very nice
POP: 4 hrs 15 minutes, the group ahead of us were walking and we never really waited on them until the last few holes . . . maybe they were getting tired.
Customer service: Always exceptional, today was no different
Overall: a very nice day with a good group on a nice course, even the brief rain was pleasant (yeah, I played well) :)

Very nice course with a variety of holes. Very good condition and one of the best I have played recently. Greens a little slower than others I have play in SD. But good roll and hold a ball well. Bunkers beautiful and consistent. I teed off at 11.00, PoP was ok and a marshal asked a slower group to let us play through. Fringes of greens have been re-laid but did not cause any issues.

I played in a scramble tournament at Sycuan on Tuesday 1/13. We teed off at 11 and prior to the round I felt like the practice area and set up was pretty cool.

I think the current conditions of the Willow Glen course are perfectly indicative of "winter conditions" as you had the overseeded fairways, which were in really good shape bordered by the brown rough. I personally felt like the course really was in above average shape considering the recent cold and rain. You could definitely tell that the greens had received quite a bit of water, because the heavy play that day left quite a few spike marks and foot prints.

I hadn't played this course since it was Singing Hills and I really enjoyed it. I think you get a pretty good variety of holes and it would be a great course for both high and low handicappers.

On top of everything else, the staff was great and did a good job handling such a big group. I don't know what the current rates are out there, but I think if you were paying in the $60-ish range you'd be getting good value for your money.

Tee-boxes: Good overall. There seemed to be enough green areas to hit from and the turf wasn't too chewed up.

Fairways: Not too bad. About as green as you might expect around this time in San Diego however this property usually does a superb job of staying green when others simply don't bother watering so sort of disheartened to see it yellow in spots. Good lies everywhere though and a good amount of roll.

Rough: Not too penalizing. About average length and allow for decent shots throughout.

Bunkers: Only found myself in one but loved seeing the white fluffy stuff that makes bunker shots easier. Rakes were plentiful.

Greens: OK. Greener than expected but a few had large patches of ground under repair or general maintenance. Rolled very well however it seemed the tournament earlier in the day didn't fix their divots.

ETC: Staff was friendly. Very happy to see the snack shop didn't close up early. Carts had plenty of juice but sad to see GPS didn't tell you where the next closest cart was. Upgraded their range and looks great. Hate that they went off of GolfNow as you used to be able to get amazing deals on these courses.

Had a 9:16 time was sent off with a twosome at 9, cuz Willow was pretty open . . . played in just over 4 hours and never waited until 18. The course was in very playable condition, baked out in some areas of the fairways, rough and periphery but mostly good. I mean it does get hot out there in the big valley! The greens rolled well, a bit slower in the morning and then speeding up to just on the quick side of medium. There's a snack bar that you pass 4 times during your round and a cart that comes around. I always enjoy playing at Singing Hills . . . eeeerr ahhh "Sycuan", showing my age there!

Greens looked great and were very soft. But, I noticed many putts bounce around and some had minor damaged or dry spots along the fringe. Also quite few foot prints. Over all still in good shape.
Was in two Traps and both were soft and easy to get out of.
Layout is tight, but not real long, so ball placement can be key. Numerous 'less then driver' T shots to get good placement.
Nice to see and play on a 'Green' course compared to many that are in their winter dormant stage.

Played my GK Cup match with Rat-Patrol yesterday (bapr5092 and jpeairs85 rounded out our foursome). Course was in pretty good shape. As soon as you roll on to the property, you are offered a ride to the clubhouse (not sure how new this service is). The driver and the rest of the staff are all friendly and helpful. Facilities here are nice from the practice areas, the clubhouse, and the restaurant. The carts are nice as well with color GPS (which is always a plus for me). On to the course conditions:

Tee-boxes: We were playing the "gold" tee-boxes and overall they were OK to good. I never had any issues finding level ground although some had been been more chewed up than others. My main concern is always level ground vs. area presentation so in that regard they were fine. I did notice on several holes, they decided to move the gold boxes all the way back to where the black tee-boxes were so that made for an even more interesting day.

Fairway: Overall great. There were some bare spots (and one hole that had a long tire mark running through it) but for an area of SD County that is usually extremely hot and gets little water, the amount of grass and level of green was impressive for mid-June. The grass in the fairway is also extremely fair when it comes to roll.

Rough: I would say great. Not too thick but also enough of a challenge on some holes to penalize errant tee-shots. Overall it was well kept though.

Greens: I was actually unaware they had aerated them a month ago (thank you Jim for giving me the heads up) and for the most part you couldn't tell. They are healing nicely and quickly compared to other courses. They ran at a medium to med-fast pace for the most part. They can get tricky to read as everyone in our group found out, however they were fair and plenty green with limited ball marks.

Pace: Unfortunately it was slow on the front 9, mainly due to course layout. Hole 2 requires groups to wait until the next group up is on the green before teeing off, which of course starts backing up the carts almost immediately into the round. It cleared up after the turn, however at 5 hours there should be more of an effort to make sure groups play a little quicker.

Overall: A great course which, thanks to Jim, we were able to play for a great price. I enjoy the layout and there are a few interesting holes that make it worth the price. Its almost always green here and the staff make this property a great place to play.
