Slept in my car to dawn patrol it. FIRST OFF TORREY SOUTH ON SATURDAY MORNING! POP 4 hours flat at Torrey South! The course is back to phenomenal shape in preparation for the Farmers. The grand stands add a fun element in my opinion (They are 40% completed) Greens were perfect with no ball marks. Greens were fast and rolling. A few of the tee boxes were beat up because they're resting the pro tee boxes on most par 3s. Fairways were pure green and lush. Just enough moisture to rob roll and make the course play even longer. The fairways are a thick hairy beast right now. The course is insanely difficult right now. The front nine pins were Farmers Sunday positions. Guaranteed 3 putts unless you were below the hole because they put the pins on top of ridges. The most difficult pins I have ever seen playing here. A true test. I struck the ball lights out and shot an lucky 92 my scratch partner shot a 84. Rough is an automatic 1 stroke penaltly and if you miss the green on your approach you won't be able to spin or stop pitches or chips especially if the pin is tight. Bunkers added more sand and were much better but not the usual fluffy goodness. I highly recommend doing dawn patrol. It's a once in a lifetime experience. Staff was amazing as always. The starters and cart girls here are truly special and make every player feel as an appreciated guest.

Played here Saturday Afternoon POP 6 hours + :(((( The Santa Ana wins took their toll. Can tell the course is getting a lot of play. It's fairly beat up now. Tee boxes had lots of divots and the iconic number 3 tee box was flat out bad. I think they're savings certain boxes for the Farmers which is understandable so the ones open aren't receiving the normal rotation. With the wind the fairways and greens were dried out and more brown than normal. Green were fast and rolling as always. Luckily they mowed the rough so you could hit 7 iron above out so it was more playable than in previous weeks. However the winds blew all the sand out of the bunkers. That were bad and terrible by Torrey standards. Hard packed mud that was impossible to play out of. Quite a disappointment. A few brown spots scattered over the course. The views will always be amazing and it was an epic sunset with the smoke in the air. Will be back this weekend to let you know how it recovers.

Played here Sunday afternoon POP: 4:15 Torrey South in all of it's glory. Torrey is back! Luckily they recently mowed the rough so you have a chance now. Wow, Tiger wasn't kidding when he said that no scratch golfer could break 100 on this course with US open conditions. After playing North with 5 - 6 inch rough I was prepared for a beat down luckily it was a fair test. Wow this course is in unbelievable condition heading into the Farmers. The rough is still a fierce 3 - 4 inches in some spots but you have a chance to play out of it. Anything lower than a 7 iron has absolutely no chance and you need a favorable lie and some muscle to even hit a 7 iron out it. The rough is lush as lush can be. Fairways are great. The bunkers were a little harder packed then usual it didnt appear they dried over the day. I had one lie on basically hard packed mud which wasn't too fun. The greens are rolling. Wow they are deceptively quick. They are fast and firm you better spin it and be accurate. Even after playing this course 10+ times these greens are still insanely difficult to read. Making any putt over 8 feet here is a gift as the cups are not forgiving you have to center cup them even 4 footers have unseen breaks. Greens are perfect, tee boxes are level and perfect. If you want green on green come play Torrey right now. It doesn't get much better than this right now. If you miss the fairway good luck salvaging a par as you cannot spin it out of the rough or even intermediate cut. Hit your approach on the wrong tier you can forget par. Get out there and test your game with epic conditions right now!

Played here as usual yesterday. Place is being prepared for The Farmers Open. Greens are a little bumpy and there still bare spots everywhere, especially in front and around almost every green. I truly feel sorry for the people paying tourist rates of 230 bucks for this place. This place has slid in the past few years. It's a great course but has poor maintenance. Bunkers are a little better than in the past though. Unless people put the pressure on the kid in charge of maintenance nothing will change.

Played in the men's club today starting at 7. It was a long round. Took about 5 1/2 hours today. Saw a couple marshals but really didn't seen any openings or slow groups.

Played in the men's club today starting at 7. It was a long round. Took about 5 1/2 hours today. Saw a couple marshals but really didn't seen any openings or slow groups.

It is pretty rough out there and the place is in need of overseeding. However the greens are pretty fast but many ball marks. Saw quite a few balls hop after they were hit. I did like the greens though.

The rough is bare and cut down. Lots of dry areas and lots of bare areas. Even around the greens which makes chipping more difficult.

Fairway is just ok at best. Many divots out there.

Sand was actually really good.

I'd say even for a resident it would be hard to justify the greens fees with these conditions. I think after the fall maintenance things will be back to normal and will probably wait until then to be back myself. Also on a side note the north looks terrible. From what I could see it was completely brown.

Played Torrey South at 7:30 Sat morning. **Please understand I have a San Diego residence card and play Torrey every other weekend so my experience/review will be much different than the average tourist first time player. Also, this is Torrey Pines, and rightfully so is held to loftier standards** Asterisk* I have been out if town and I know Torrey has been doing its seasonal maintenance so some of the conditions may be due to overseeding. Course was in the worst shape I have ever seen. The greens were perfect. Once the dew dried off they were the standard fast POA greens who terrorize vacation golfers' nightmares you know and love. They were a little softer than usual and were holding better. The bunkers were good but due to being damp were a little harder due to the morning dew. The turf was a different story. I have never seen so much brown at Torrey. The fairways had brown patches everywhere and dead grass galore across the course. Even around the greens were suffering from serious dried out brown patches. There were even dead spots in front of the iconic par 3. Worst of all outside of the dead spots the grass did not look lush at all and didn'y have any green pop you would associate with Torrey Pines. Divots weren't too bad in the fairway. However, the ballmarks at the apron of the greens were absolutely atrocious. We played at 7:30 and there was no way these were from the few groups ahead of us. It was clear the greenskeeper made no effort to repair any ballmarks from the previous day. The group ahead of us were obvious tourists and were already 2 holes behind at the third hole. The marhsalls thankfully came to move things along but the early marshall was not in the best of moods to help us initially to say the least. What is crazy to think is the group in front of paid over $1,500 to play. Yes there are unbelievable views but If I were to spend that price the course better be pure without a spec of brown grass. Had a great day and unbelievable weather, but poor conditions on South right now.

Another great day at Torrey, beautiful with perfect weather. Course is in good shape with fairways running fast as well as the greens. Most everything similar to last review (last Sunday) except the greens were looking and rolling a little better. Pretty much my favorite course right now. It's tough, it's a big boy/girl course so, once again, bring your game!

Played twilight at 2:20, out a bit earlier that that. The course was playing short today, the dry air and hard surfaces combined to make the ball go further, much further in some cases (that or the steroids are finally kicking in!). The course is in good shape, with, as Mike said, a few rough areas where the heat has taken it's toll. Tees: large, flat and mostly well covered Fairways: running fast with some bare areas (I ended up in one in the middle of the fairway on 13) but mostly good to play from Rough: cut down a bit (2" to 3") and not quite as thick and sticky as usual (I caught a few flyers that sent the ball enormous distances (190 yard 7 iron straight into a strong wind on 4) Bunkers: The ones I found were very good Greens: fast down grain and a bit slower against, they were also a touch scrappy with ball marks ill-fixed and some not at all, also the surfaces themselves were just not smooth . . . a combination that made actually holing putts very difficult POP: 4 hrs 20 minutes Customer service: fine Recommendation: It's Torrey South, an Open venue with spectacular views, so yes, recommended, it is a big boy/girl course so bring your game or pay the price

Greens are still great though. The pace is deceptive, more roll on them than they look. They are getting water on them so they are not that firm. I don't remember a significant amount of divots on them but there are always a few.

Fairways are good. You're starting to see more browning but overall the turf is good to hit from.

The rough is probably where I've seen the most change. It's starting to thin out and there are very dirt spots throughout.

No problem with the sand is typical. I had a couple of lies that the ball was half way below the surface. Not necessarily a fried egg but definitely not expect that kind of lie with this type of sand.
