Well, we went here because its on about every golfers bucket list. Unless you are a resident paying the reduced rate, that is where it should stay. Other than a nice view once in a while this course is easily one of the most over-rated courses in America. Not just my bad round, but the view expressed by others in my group. They all agreed that they would never play here again for those ridiculous rates. Course was in good, not great shape. Greens were slow and a bit bumpy. Certainly not what you'd expect from a $200+ round of golf. HUGE disappointment...

Per my earlier review the course is in nice lush shape now, but the greens aren't rolling as nice - they're slow to medium speed, fairly bumpy and still show the waffle pattern from aeration well over a month ago. They really need to roll them to get them smooth again; playing two weeks ago they rolled much nicer and more true.

Played South on 6/5 in the morning. The course and facility weren't very busy, and we saw a lot of twosomes and threesomes on the course. Pace was excellent, and we finished right at 4 hours.

Played South on 6/5 in the morning. The course and facility weren't very busy, and we saw a lot of twosomes and threesomes on the course. Pace was excellent, and we finished right at 4 hours.

The course condition is about as good as I've ever seen it. Tee boxes and fairways are in excellent shape, the bunkers well kept with good constancy sand, and the greens rolled very nicely, with medium-fast speed. A couple greens still showed a little waffle pattern from the recent aeration, but still putted true. The rough is just right now at Torrey - the tee-to-green rough is short enough that you find your ball fairly easily, but long enough to make hitting out of it a bit of a challenge, and the green side rough is fairly thick and challenging. Just the way good rough should be!

Overall, conditions and pace are excellent, and Torrey is offering up a great and challenging experience.

Got back to play Torrey South Tuesday morning and it was brutal. Tees, fairways and rough were in good shape. Greens are coming along but you can still see the marks from the recent aeration. Greens were firm and medium fast. Wind was blowing like crazy and the recent heatwave made this one tough course. Was in way too many bunkers, looks like they are replacing some of the sand with some having a good base of sand and others a little too firm.

Since its only 2 more weeks since maintenance I just wanted to post an update here rather than rate the course. Now is a great time to get out there. Agree with Rat's previous review. Course is in really great condition right now. I've played 3 times over the past week and pace is right about 4 1/2 hours and this is a great pace here considering the length of the course and the rough can be penalizing at times.

The greens are really smooth and surprisingly I don't recall seeing that many ball marks out there but I was going off in the mornings. The pace is also consistent throughout and I'd say a medium fast pace.

Fairways are great to hit out of if you can find them and while the rough is not the thickest I have seen you can get some buried lies in there.

I played once after it rained and the sand was a little wet and the other times were no rain and they had been and were being raked by the staff so the quality was a expected for those conditions.

Marshall was out there and seem to be moving people along if they fell behind.

I realize that with a course like this in this condition being my bench mark by which I judge all other courses isn't fair to all other courses. Today this course was in about as good as it can get conditions, with the only exception being the wet, semi-thin of sand bunkers . . . but still those bunkers are a 7 on a scale of 1 to 10.
POP: 4 1/2 hrs
Tee boxes: nice
Fairways: exceptional
Rough: a nice consistent 3" to 4"
Greens: fast, smooth, maybe a touch on the hard side for amateurs.
Snack cart: came around at least twice a 9.

I had promised myself I would play from the Copper tees today but chickened out, played the Whites . . . next time fer sure. This place kills me with it's length and difficulty around the greens. If you don't hit it 250 consistently (and don't kid yourself most of us don't) you should move up a tee or two.

Played Sunday 2/23 at 7am. Course is absolutely immaculate, can't imagine a nicer conditioned course in southern CA. Greens, tee boxes, fairways, and bunkers are all pga quality. I believe it is one of 2 courses in SD county (not counting north course) to overseed. It's a steal for SD residents. I played it the Tuesday after the Farmers and it is in as great of condition but more enjoyable because the rough is penal but not impossible. Kudos to the superintendent, I can forgive you now for letting balboa go a little.

Oh yeah, get yourself a bloody mary, one of the best in town.

Overall, this was the best day of golf(i played well but not amazing) I have ever had. This is my favorite course and I have only played it 2 times.
