Played twice over the past couple of days so this review is a combination of the two. Overall pace was about four and a half to a little over that on the weekend round.

The greens are deceptively fast. Over the weekend I had quite a few 3 putts and today wasn't as bad but I had to remind myself about the speed. I don't think I'm that bad of a putter but some of these greens had me fooled. Surprisingly only a few ball marks and I think they rolled pretty smooth. There was a guy watering the 15th green so maybe they realize how quick they had gotten or preparing for the heat we have so they don't bake out.

Rough is getting brutal. There was a lie in the rough on 14 that my friend asked if i had a shovel in my bag. Kind of comical but was kind of true, I saw it. Do yourself a favor and just put it back in play.

Fairway probably could use a little trim but really nice to hit out of. Seems like most of the divots have been filled so whether its the golfers or the workers filling them it seems to be helping.

Bunkers that I was in were pretty good and consistent. Pretty soft fluffy sand so I like it like that. Note the front right bunker on 14 was GUR.

On another note it is quite noisy out there with all the stands going up for the tournament so be prepared because those guys don't stop for anything. Other than that its pretty enjoyable so I'll probably continue to play here until they shut it down.

Teed off as a twosome and the pace of play was fantastic, played in less than 4 hours which I think is a first for me here especially on the south. The course is shaping up nicely and I'm glad the cut down the rough because some areas are really thick. My understanding from the starter and marshal was that the day before there were 6 hour rounds. One in part because if the rough and the it was a really nice day. When I played it started as a little drizzle but no rain. It did rain the day before so the greens were soft and probably not as fast as normal but they were pretty smooth. Sand was a little heavy and wet but that was expected, there were guys out there raking them but obviously not all had been attended to.

Short of a bunker they have closed on 17 and a little GUR on 4, the course is in great shape and looks to only get better as the Farmers gets closer.

Played here 3 times over the past week and course is shaping up nicely. Between my first round and the last one I have seen it improve steadily. This is especially true of the rough. There are some parts that are pretty tough. Right on 9, left on 17 come to mind. But for the most part the rough is still growing although the rain the past couple of days have probably helped in the process.

The first time I played the fairways were really shaggy and they have been cut but they still need more cutting for my taste. Fairways were soft so maybe this contributed to the growth in the fairway.

Sand was a little inconsistent. Some bunkers had little sand and others were great. Some needed raking and some had been raked so it was a crap shoot with them.

Greens coming in nicely. There are a few spots still healing from the maintenance but the pins weren't in these areas so it is not supposed to affect the putts. Some of the greens rolled pretty good and others were a little bumpy. In general I think they all needed a little mowing, I like them a little faster than what they are running at right now.

I'd say wait a couple of weeks if you're paying the non-resident rate. I don't have a problem with the resident rate for these conditions but I could also understand if someone thought it was overpriced.

Played at 12:50 today. The course is getting back into great shape for the Farmers. The greens are almost completely healed and the fairways are returning to their lush maintained state. Pace of play is almost always an issue and today was no different. 5.25 hours. The greens were rolling true and only a couple were still a little bumpy from the punching. The fairways were pretty good, a couple of thin spots but it's all coming back so nothing to worry about. Same went for the tees. A couple holes had the tees up on some of the intermediate boxes but the regular tees are almost ready. The bunkers were wonderful and plentiful.

Torrey South yesterday, twilight . . . after the Charger game. I was feeling a bit rough after the Hawaii theme party, the game was early, so twilight was a good fit.

Torrey South yesterday, twilight . . . after the Charger game. I was feeling a bit rough after the Hawaii theme party, the game was early, so twilight was a good fit.

POP, the starter got me out a bit earlier than my 2:40 tee time so we finished in a little over 4 hours.
Customer service, saw the snack cart often.
Tee boxes, always good here except maybe at the third the short par 3 . . . well short by Torrey standards, that box, though level was a bit chewed up . . . but it was late in the day.
Fairways, very nice mostly, a few huge gouges . . . sometimes in strange directions.
Rough, minimal but penal.
Sand, looked good . . . looked better than my last trip. Although they are doing some work in some of the greenside bunkers and those are marked as ground under repair.
Greens were running quite fast, but were pock marked . . . again it was late in the day and many people just don't fix their ball marks.

Along with the "While we are young" campaign I would like to see a "fix'em and leave'em like ya found'em" campaign! I've never seen an article in a golf magazine about fixing divots . . . or maybe a bit on The Golf Channel on the subject? I'm sure if Holly Sonders did a piece on fixing divots she'd have ALL the guys attention!!!!

I boycotted Torrey a bit after the price hike . . . but, even though the place kicks my butt almost every time, I could never stay away for ever, it's just too nice! "I wish I knew how to quit you." :)

This course is my home course. I have clubbed professional players here many times over the past 10 years before tournaments. I play here over 60 times a year. The course is expensive for outsiders but worth the money to experience it BUT, and I do mean BUT, bring your own foursome. If you are a golfer that plays with etiquette and does not like playing with drinkers or hackers I suggest you don't play as a single here. I would safely say 80% of the time you will end up with a poor group and waste your money. The conditions are normally much better than any public course you have played. The greens normally run about 9-10 or better. The staff is is good as it gets. I have posted a play sheet on this site that will save the average player no less than 10 strokes per round. Yesterday this place was in pretty good condition.

The course is in typical summer shape like all the courses I've played lately.

Rough, penal.
Bunkers, some a bit hard and thin on sand, some better.
Greens, pock marked . . . once again I did a LOT of ball mark fix'n! Rolling a bit on the slow side (for Torrey).
POP, 4 1/2 hrs. started at 3:20 (on time) and finished at 7:50 (in the dark).

Overall worth the $46 (residents fee) to walk.

Teed off at 10 and we finished in 4 hours 50 minutes. Was stacked up on holes but you would have to wait a little before the group ahead cleared. I didn't see anyone behind so I think the course was just playing difficult and the wind was picking up as the day went on. Saw the marshal out there quite a bit. Greens were pretty good although there were quite a few ball marks on them but otherwise pretty smooth. I was a little surprised considering the amount of play this has been getting because I thought they'd be bumpy but they weren't. Medium pace, they weren't the fastest I've seen them nor were they the slowest. Fairways were pretty good too but there are quite a few divots that need to be filled. The rough was nasty in some places and others were fine to hit out of. Sometimes the ball would settle down and other times it wouldn't but that is typical here. Sand was good, was in there quite a few times and they all seemed pretty consistent.
