Played 11/25/20. Course has a lot of water on it. Fairways are OK but rough is deep and wet. Still many areas around the greens in bad shape and many areas with bare dirt. Not sure why as the over seed was a long time ago. The new design and wet conditions have made this un-enjoyable for most players.

First off yesterday and finished around 4 hours. Should have been quicker but the marina layer kept coming and going making it difficult to know exactly where your ball went.

Greens are ok. I'd prefer they get rolled and cut a little more. Some still seemed to show the effect of the punching so that may be a factor in why they aren't as good as they should be. Pretty receptive holding shots.

Fairways could use some cutting and a little soft. Not much roll in some spots.

Rough is still in overseeding mode. Not nearly as penalizing as the north but its growing and there are some thick spots. You can get lucky and get a good lie. I actually did hit a 3 wood out of it because I had a really nice lie.

Tee boxes are back at their normal spots and pretty good. I don't remember any unlevel or bad spots other than the areas they put the tees during the maintenance.

I don't know if I have done this before but I rated the sand a 1. I'm just really tired of these bunkers. Yesterday I had 4 plugged lies and I know you're thinking yeah that is an exaggeration or don't hit it there. My response would be I wish I were exaggerating and do you think I'm really trying to put in the bunker? I really don't get it. There is too much sand in spots and then you'll bottom out in others. I'm baffled. I did put a picture on the app of my last one.

Played a Twilight Front 9 round today, Nov 12. Walking rate $37 with City Card. The course is understandably in full blown prep for the 2021 US OPEN.

Played a Twilight Front 9 round today, Nov 12. Walking rate $37 with City Card. The course is understandably in full blown prep for the 2021 US OPEN.

Although a San Diego native, this was my first time playing here. Overall a wonderful experience, regardless how bad I played.

All the TEES are moved forward a tee box or two and look like they have not moved in a long time (See photo). A lot of divots, and basically burnt out. But in order to have a great US Open, I get it. Didn't really affect any shots for me or my playing partners.

The FAIRWAYS on the other hand are in GREAT condition. So is the ROUGH, and it's only getting thicker as they have reduced mowing frequency I believe.

The GREENS are definitely still recovering from the recent punching. It's not too bad as its on the later end of the recovery, but it's still bumpy and you can see where they punched, so it'll affect your putts a little more than I'd like. It will probably be fully recovered in a few weeks.

The BUNKERS are fresh sand, good condition. No rakes because of COVID.

All in all, a great time. No bare spots and a challenging course. I will be back to play the North course for a full 18 next weekend.

This will be a rather short review. Played yesterday and I was pretty surprised at how dry and brown the course is right now. I know they are punching and overseeding on 10/20-10/22 but it looks as though that should happen this week. I can't imagine what another 3 weeks will do to this course. Greens are actually decent but the rest of the course is awful. I'd avoid the course until December.

Played the last 2 days. One in a tournament and one causal play. On Sunday we were the 6th group out and it took about 5 hours to play. In that heat it felt like 8 hours. Didn't see anyone slow out there i think the heat just took its toll on everyone. Yesterday we were 3rd out and finished at 4 hours. Sadly the group behind us was at least 3 holes behind us.

Greens are not too bad but a little on the slower side than I like. They healed better than I thought coming out of punching but I'd still like to see them rolled and cut a little tighter. Some putts were a little wobbly rolling to the hole that I thought was due to the length of the grass not the break of the putt.

Fairways are good. Pretty good lies but again like the greens I'd like them a mowed a little tighter. Still some good roll on drives and the usual amount of divots for here.

The rough is a mixed bag. There are some areas that are pretty bare and dry and then there are areas that the USGA is testing out for the US Open next year. So you got these polar opposites and everything else in between. I did post a picture on the GK app on the rough that was really deep.

In my previous reviews I made a comment about the traps being soft and while they don't seem as soft as then there were a couple of buried lies. With the local rules due to COVID being able to place the ball within a club length does mitigate this.

Course is due for punching (again) and overseeding at the end of October. North is being overseeded in a couple of weeks so there is not much time to get out here. Probably ok to check out if you're a resident but I'd hold off if I was a non-resident for now.

Played on Sunday morning of 8/23. Fairways were nice but rough was ridiculously long, 3-5” high. This resulted in ridiculous POP and frustration amongst entire foursome. Just seemed as though City is cutting corners on maintenance. If you’re going to charge $250, at least make it so it’s not impossible to find your ball if you’re not in fairway and if you do find it, even the best of pros could not get out of this kind of rough any more than 50-100 yrds.
Was very disappointed. Played the North last year same time and conditions then were excellent in comparison even with greens being punched a week earlier. I can accept green punches but never such poor maintenance as we saw on Sunday.

It’s a shame that they are punching on Tuesday and Wednesday because the course is really in great condition with the Cal Am here last week. There were some really gnarly areas in the rough.

North is being punched mid August so it wait 4-5 weeks before coming out.

We played both the North and South on 7/24. Pace of play was glacial, but the weather was great. The greens on the North Course have more ball marks and imperfections, but they rolled much better than the greens on the South. (We played the South second, so by the time we finished (near sunset), putts were wobbling all over the place.) Rough is still fairly tame on both courses.

Played last Saturday and overall the course seems to be preparing for the Cal Am tourney at the end of the month. So I expect that the course will probably be a little firmer as we get closer to this tourney.

Greens are good. They rolled pretty well and there may be a couple of ball marks but certainly not as much as the North (maybe because no one can hit these greens in regulation?).

The 2 fairways I found were nice to hit from and also nice to walk on. Wish I could hit from here more often. You'll find a few more divot in collection areas like the bottom of the hill on 13, etc. Still adequate roll out on drives. The last time I reviewed I mentioned that there were areas from the redesign that didn't seem to grow in completely and that still seems to be the case. Not sure why these areas are taking so long to grow in and be consistent with the other parts of the fairway.

While the rough is not Farmer's rough there are some spots that are which a couple of playing partners found. I think the rough immediately off the fairway is not that bad but I expect this to be growing over the next couple of weeks. Nothing like punishing 15 year old boys with knee high rough.

I have the same issues with the sand here as the North. They just seem to be putting too much on the face of the bunkers. I don't mind it in the bottom but the amount of plugged lies I have seen over the past year here is probably as much as I've seen in all my other golfing years combined.

Tee boxes are good. They didn't seem as beat up as the North.

Customer service is great as always. We were 3rd out so no problem with the pace. Overall quite enjoyable and should be getting better. I can't wait until I see some of the scores from the tournament so I can have a nice slice of humble pie.
