Sub four hour round on a beautiful day for golf. The course is still healing from maintenance from tee to green. The staff was a little confused on check in for us - but finally got it right. The tees had been plugged and were thin, dry and slightly beat up. The fairways also have been plugged and were pretty dry and very tight, which provided great roll but made good contact difficult. The rough was pretty long but not real thick if one could locate their shot. The traps were fairly good with okay sand but quite a few rocks and pebbles. The greens were about half way healed from being plugged. Most putts were very slow and somewhat bumpy. The course just looks like it needs more water to progress to better condition. I would give it a couple weeks if they start putting more water everywhere and it should be nice.

Played GC of California for a late birthday round with a neighbor. Short and sweet, it was awful. This course is one I have always highly regarded as being a quality, well maintained and manicured track that I thoroughly enjoyed, but it currently has the appearance of a course that is being 'let go', which is a shame. I hope that's not the case, but winter conditions can't be the only explanation for why it looked so ragged and trashy throughout.
The tee boxes were fading and disheveled, the fairways were tight and dormant/dying/dead, and the rough was just a bunch of trashy dead patchy mess. I literally had the feel all day like I'd been duped, given the 'ol bait and switch, because this course has never felt or played this way in my past experiences.

Unlike everything else about the course with the exception of the first green which was an absolute bumpy mess, the greens progressively got better with many in excellent condition. That and the good customer service were the lone saving grace for a course I used to love and now will not return to until it's restored.

So disappointed, GCofCa was a hidden gem for a long time, but it's just a messy looking muni now. Only paid $30 dollars on a GN discount and STILL felt robbed.

Was excited to play Gc of California as it is one of my favorite courses. However, pulled into the parking lot and it was 33 degrees. However - NO FROST DELAY ! But carts on path until 8:30, which was just about at the finish of my round. 33 is just plain cold, particularly in a cart and with carts on path, makes for a tough day. Greens were good, not great. Nice to see that #1 green has improved. Fairways being dormant and somewhat frozen allowed for some additional roll, which was nice because the ball does not travel all that far in freezing temperatures. Greenside bunkers all had great sand, lots of it and well maintained. I just really like this course. Fits my eye! Staff is always wonderful and accommodating. Despite the weather and poor play on my part, had a nice time and enjoyed the round, which is testament to the golf course!

Played 2-11-18 with David, Matt, and Jim using an Underpar deal and getting around the course in a little under 5 hours. Tee boxes were mostly level with descent coverage with some minor divot damage on par threes. Fairways had not fully filled in from whenever they had last been punched so you could end up with the ball sitting in a little depression, but they were mostly in good shape with a fair amount of roll out. Rough was cut very low and had some bare spots. Was in one greenside bunker that was nice to play from. Greens for the most part were in good shape, rolling fairly smooth with medium pace and semi-soft.

Played Sunday 2/11 @ 11:00 with dconnally, Rat-Patrol and rgm2525. Like Rat said, course was in fine shape apart from a couple of greens. Fairways were very firm giving plenty of roll but a very consistent surface. Greens were inconsistent to start with but really evened out by the time we hit about hole 6. I was in one fairway bunker that could be best described as "fluffy." Tee boxes were solid and rough wasn't overly penal. In fact, a bit more rough would save a few balls rolling into the hazards. POP was right around 5 hours and service was good throughout the day. I think we saw the beverage cart 3-4 times. Like the layout even if it keeps kicking my butt.

Played on Sunday, 2/11/18, in a GK Cup 11 match with lotrgolfer48. Great time with Matt, Jim, and Ron with very good course conditions. One of my favorite tracks in San Diego County. Other than holes 1 and 4, greens are great – firm, held shots, rolling at medium+ speed. Not too many old ballmarks. Fairway lies were consistently good. Rough generally cut short and firm, but with scattered bare areas and bushy patches. Always recommended.

Went off at 11 with fellow GKers David, Matt and Ron. Weather was nice, with a bit of wind picking up as we started. Driving range surface is a bit loose and sandy. Putting green is really, really furry and slow, so no help. The course was mostly in good condition with a couple greens being a bit off. The first green was a bit furry and slow, as was the fourth green. The rest of the greens were pretty nice. Bunkers were good to play from and the layout is challenging for a hack like me (we played the Blue/White combo which is a good mix). I like this course even though I played badly . . . but any day upright, playing golf is a glorious day!

1/29 birthday round $20 cart fee very friendly check in and out quickly 3 3/4 POP on a warm pleasant day. Fairways are cut tight giving good roll but still with soft enough soil to allow for a divot. Not much rough except for some areas closer to the greens. Tees level with ok cover. Front 9 greens a little softer with more grain and not cut as smooth but still rolled pretty well at medium speed. Receptive to full shots and generally held chips pretty well. Back 9 faster speed and smoother overall. Large greens with contours and topography to consider. Really a good layout scenic with lots of wild stuff surrounding the holes. Bunkers mostly good except for green-side #3 looked to be groomed wet sand but was more like groomed mud. Definitely the exception. Fun round and enjoyable over all.

1/22using groupon $74 2 some with range balls voucher on a cold(no frost delay) 740 start that became quite pleasant by 830. Fairways are generally thin giving tight lies but acceptable overall--firm for roll but soft enough to take divots. Rough is sparse along fairways with some bare patches toward the extreme edges. Rough is a little more evident around the greens. Tees level and ok. Green side bunker on 4 was full of deep rather heavy brown sand which felt quite playable. Bunker in front of 12 looked good but only had a thin layer of sand over hard pack. Greens played much better than they looked--many appeared rather splotchy but rolled medium to medium fast especially as the day warmed and quite smoothly overall. Held approach and chip shots quite consistently. Some pin placements were really challenging most notably #7(par 3 with the center green bunker)--blue flag set dead center behind said bunker. The layout is outstanding good variety of holes in a tranquil country setting. Truthfully the conditions are not as good as some times in the past but it is winter and it is evident the the course is being well maintained and attended to. Check in was a breeze with a cheerful welcome and several friendly encounters with other staff members trough out the day. the rating of 6 came out really low--is more like 6.8-7 in reality
