Weather: 15-20mph breeze for most of the day...High 60's

Fairways 7/10...I last played here 6 months ago..they have improved a lot. Most areas were lush to mid lush green grass with very few green hard pan spots.

Greens: 6.5/10 They were running around a 9 on stimp were bouncy on some putts but overall they were above average and held shots with spin. The major defense on the greens here are the major undulations.

Tees: 6/10 Lush for the most part some divot damage on par 3's and some un level tees

Bunkers: 7/10 Was in one bunker greenside on #3 and it contained white beach sand that was firm and packed and decent

Rough 7/10.. Lush in some spots from 2-3 inches, other parts of the course might be hardpan depending on where you end up.

Pace of play was great today at 3 hours 30 minutes.

Overall 7/10...This is a short tree lined course that you can build your confidence score wise if you are playing well. The major defense of the course is the afternoon wind, undulating greens and certain tight tree lined holes. A course I will throw in the rotation maybe twice a year.

Played while on vacation with RGM2525 & Longball23 on a breezy weekday afternoon. Excellent value on an internet rate of $19, included a cart for 18 holes. We barely waited a shot AD and got around in 3.5 hours. The greens were decent, firm, medium fast but occasionally bumpy. The sand was excellent, I was in enough around the greens to get a good sample. The tees were generally lush with a few unlevel. The fairways were much improved from the last time I played here 1 1/2 years ago, I would call them good today. The rough was generally lush and well kept up for the most part. Maintenance as a whole looked like a +, I noticed numerous trees had been trimmed since the last time I had played here. The customer service in the pro shop and the snack bar have always been good here in my opinion. Fun little course and you couldn't beat the price today. Felt like visiting an old friend.

Played Saturday morning, 2/2/13. The pace of play for a Saturday was good, just over 4 hours. That's the good. Now the rest. The course is pretty beaten up during this winter time The fairways are very thin with numerous bare areas. It was a bit muddy in several spots. Being in the fairway did not promise you a good lie. The tee boxes were level but thin. No real problems there though. The greens were blotchy with several strains of grass. They were quite bumpy, receptive and meddium speed. Sand around the greens was good. This is a fun shorter course. But right now it's in poor to fair shape. I would wait until late spring or summer to play this one.

Out this morning 11/19 at 9:35am with Pedro 7170 and my buddy Mack to take advantage of the Buena twilight special that they have running all day which is 21 bucks to walk. I was impressed with Buena today..everything looked lush driving into the parking lot. Many of the fairways that they reconstructed last year are coming in beautiful. Most fairways were lush with not that much roll. The only minor complaint from our group was some of fairway and chipping areas were over saturated from previous couple days of rain but did not bother me much. The greens today were a big improvement from previous times out on this course. You could still see signs of old ballmarks but the greens putted better and only contained about half the amount of ballmarks that I saw here in previous rounds. I saw numerous maintenance workers working on the course which is always a good sign to see. The tees were lush in spots with some divot damage in others. Some of the tees need leveling but overall not to bad. I was only in the sand once on #6 and it was well raked and contained some great quality sand. Olivas and Buena always have great quality white beach sand with just the right texture. Pro-shop was very friendly this morning. Buena is a short tree line course where you have to work the ball each way. Teeing off in the morning gives you a chance to avoid the afternoon wind. For the rate that we paid today I would recommend this course to someone who wants to work on their short game, shape tee shots and wants a good deal on the wallet.

Out at 10am on Monday 8/6 thought I would take advantage of the all day twilight special that they run on Monday's for 21 bucks walking. Buena is a short semi tree lined course at around 6000yds from the back tees par 70. Its a course if your playing well that you can go low..We had a 69 and a 70 in our group today. The conditions of the greens were not very good. They had a lot of areas that they are losing parts of the greens with burned out brown spots. The greens had some sand in patches and areas. I am not sure why the greens looked so rough today to the naked eye as Ventura does not have as much heat as some of the other courses in the county. I was very surprised that they actually rolled as well as they did considering the amount of old repaired divots and burned out areas. The fairways were in just above average shape. The new fairways that they re-sodded are the better conditions fairways. They were some mud spots here and there but overall the fairways were decent. Many tees were unlevel and had some divot damage. The bunkers here have deep soft sand and are in wonderful shape. The rough is around 2-3 inches and healthy looking. Pace of play was 3 hours 30 minutes walking. Staff inside pro-shop very friendly.

Played on 7/4 and teed off at 3 pm with the course being empty and for good reason. Whoever is the greenskeeper should be terminated along with his crew for ruining this course. Last year when I played here it was in decent shape and I would rate it a 5 on scale of 10.

Our round on the 4th was very disapointing with the greens in terrible shape and the re - sodding project is a disaster with very poor installation it has been several months since they started this project and the grass has not taken hold with seams between the new sod and old sod. The new sod looks like is not getting enough water and was very thin almost hard pan.

Pin placements were a joke , you can tell that whoever placed them that day did'nt know what they were doing . On hole #2 the pin was located in a spot were the ball would not stop from any direction around the hole you putted. Each person in our group 4 putted on hole # 2. On hole #14 they cut the hole in the same place as it was about a week earlier leaving a crescent shape of the old hole on the edge of the new hole.

Bunkers were also interesting since it looked like they went to the beach and loaded a truck up with beach sand and filled the bunkers with it.

The city of Ventura should take action now to try to save this course before it turns into a negative revenue stream. This once fun well condition muni is now a hell hole and I will not be coming back anytime soon. River Ridge here we come !

This is a walk able golf course, first for us playing here, worth the drive, if you live closer you should be playing this layout.

Layout: It is not a long golf course but plenty of risk/reward Par 4's. Par 3's are short except for #7 which can play as much as 230 yards from the (Black) tee boxes. Since I never played the course, opted for the BLUE tees. Local knowledge would help, especially on hole #18 (avoid water hazard), there is more room left of the fairway than it looks.

Fairways: Are in recovery mode I'm told and are starting to take/blend with the current grass. STILL very playable with the current condition. Like all courses, many un-repaired divots? Can I blame the walkers like me who walked? I have now packed an empty bottle to fill on the course when those times I decide to walk.

Greens: Very undulating to say the least, this has to be the defense when the course is only 5800 yards PAR 70. Speed I felt was slower than they appeared, maybe some bumps here or there. Rolled true however...stay below the hole location. One par 3, we had 4 putts all stop on the downhill...wth?

We were the 1st group off for the GK play day, finding many unfixed ball marks that were very fresh (Groups ahead). The greens were soft enough, you can push back mark with your thumb, doesn't take that long.

Flagstick/Pin locations? I didn't really notice how tough they were UNTIL Hole #15. It was in the right back corner of the green barely 5 paces off the edge, on the DOWNSLOPE! No way to hold any shots. The course set up the flagstick for the "SKINS" tournament players. After the round, all the players were commenting on how tough some of the locations were.

Bunkers: PERFECT, no complaints here other than seeing a few not raked by players.

Tee Boxes: I have to ding the score here, needs some TLC. Sand mix is provided on the tee boxes but I found several tees not level, found myself moving back within the two club lengths.

Nice clean restrooms out on the course, take advantage when you see them.

Pro shop: Greeted professionally when we checked in..there are small 3"x5" layout cards provided but they don't show much at all, just where the holes are located.

Negative? NO chipping area, no bunker to practice and JUST TWO Hitting bays/cages in the back of the Pro Shop....no practice range on site. :(

Rate: Johnny got us such a great rate for a weekend prime time slot, couldn't pass it up. If it weren't for the rate, I'd opt to play here twilight or on a weekday vs on the weekend...$49 plus cart comes out to $65.00
Meanwhile TWI-light starts @ 1pm for $24 plus cart.

Would like to come back here again for a GK play day since it's a long drive for us...If you lived closer, what a deal for local golf.

Had a great time out at the GK Plays Bueanventura Sunday. This was the third time I’ve played Buena in a month. I am enjoying this golf experience more with each play. It may be a short golf course but its no push-over. You’ve got to hit the ball straight off the tee and putt very well. With the prevailing wind coming off the ocean, holes 7 (monster par 3), 12 & 13 can play long. Hole 16 is a fantastic long par 4. I really like the fact the course is an easy walk and the temperatures are almost always pleasant. It could be 105 in the Valley, but at Buena, and other Ventura/Oxnard courses, it always going to be in the high 60’s to low 80’s. Buenaventura provides a perfect round to relax while at the same time forcing you to play well to score well.

I thought the condition of the course, with exception to other golfers (not GK’ers) not fixing enough ball marks, was great. Greens ran moderately fast, a little bumpy (because of old ball marks) and held shots. Fairways provided mostly lush lies (and when the new sod takes hold better) the fairways should be excellent. Tee Boxes, as expected had divot damage being it’s a short course where iron off the tee is almost always an option yet were lush and groomed. Bunkers were beautiful being well ranked and containing quality sand. Rough, cut short, only about 1 to 2 inches and easy to hit from.

Service was excellent from the cart girl, grill and in the proshop. They have a great way of making you feel at home.

Pace of Play – Fantastic. Finished in just over 4 hours, on a Sunday, playing an outing.

played 6-24 in gk plays. tee boxes where a little thin and some had been sanded but still able to find a good stance. fairways are still improving not much roll but real good lies. rough about two inches and easy to get out of. found two sand traps and both where in great shape. greens where medium/fast and held shots pretty good but where very bumpy.
