Played today for the first time and was thoroughly impressed! The place has a real calm feel to it. Real nice staff. Excellent new FAST carts. No Gps or coolers. No driving range, just a couple nets. Good practice green that actually rolled exactly as the greens.
Started on time even though course was packed full and pace of play moved along very well. Saw foursomes as far as the eye could see but never really waited more than 15-20 seconds.
I was very impressed with the conditioning throughout. Greens were absolutely fantastic, almost no marks, rolled about a 10 and were completely consistent. Good undulation on large greens were challenging, but fun.
Fairways were terrific as well. Lush and any divots were filled.
Rough again excellent. A few very small bare spots in areas that didn't matter.
Sand was incredible. Perfect. Fantastic. Terrific. Incredible. I could sleep in a trap there.
Tees good, a couple peaked in the center, but all playable enough.
Saw a cart girl, but didn't run into her on the course.
Course is a common Bell design but has a bit more variation as some others. It is not long as is all that most munis seem to have going, but was enjoyable nonetheless. Seems like a good place to boost the ego if you're playing bad. Even a bad tee shot leaves you an ok shot at the green. Nice place. Look forward to playing again.

Played here for the first time today. Pro shop staff was very nice and extremely helpful in course knowledge. Tee boxes were leavel. Just a few that weren't. Not too many divots on tee boxes, no bare spots, tee boxes were nice. Fairways were very nice and lush as well. Not too many divots and the spots were there were divots, was filled with mix. Sand bunkers were perfect! Not too fluffy but had enough sand in them and were all raked. Greens were nice and running quick (medium to fast). Greens have a lot of undulation and could be challenging based on pin position. Excellent pace of play. I think there was a cart girl but we never saw her. Very friendly staff and a nice course. Very easily walkable. I'm glad we found another course in this area to play :)

Making an overnight trip to Santa Barbara, I opted to play Buenaventura on the way up yesterday afternoon, getting out early twilight as a single for $24. I hadn't been on this course in a long while and, seeing the recent aeration alert, took a chance that things had healed up. They had. The yellow indicator can be removed back to green. The course overall was as nice as I can remember seeing it. The tee boxes all had good coverage of mown grass, no divot damage worth mentioning, and were level. The fairways all had nice, green coverage and offered good lies. The bunkers I was in were very good—not super white or fluffy, but I don't think that necessarily makes bunkers good. They were consistent, playable and generally well raked with no firm or thin areas. Rough was reasonably forgiving, greened up, and gave you a fair chance of recovery if you didn't go too far astray. The greens were great—no sign of aeration, quick, generally clean surfaces with consistent roll on interestingly contoured and guarded complexes. At par 70, it's not the longest course, but it's interesting and generally makes you think your way around most of the holes. I teamed up with another single around the fifth hole and, while we occasionally had to wait for the foursome ahead of us, they generally kept a good pace and I think we were done in about four hours. I lived in Ventura for a while, so revisiting the course was like a pleasant reconnection with an old acquaintance. I'm happy to say it's currently in prime shape.

Played BuenaVentura earlier this morning 8/26/2013 with two buddies Pedro7170 and Mack along with one of Mack's buddies. The greens are great here. They are firmer than I remember the last time I played here. Putts were rolling true. Beautiful job on the greens. The fairways were very green and in good shape. Some of them produced tight lies. The bunkers had beach sand that was nicely raked. The rough was healthy around 2-3 inches and could be a club grabber. The tees were the only part of the course that needed improvements. Many tees were un-level but they were lush so that was good. Staff was very friendly and we only payed $17 bucks in the morning to play golf so you can't beat that! If you want to work on driving accuracy on tree line fairways and your short irons this is the place to come. The wind can be tough out here in the afternoon so you need to know how to get around here in the afternoon. The course was for sure worth the green fee today. Overall I was impressed---good job BuenaVentura---loved the greens!

Played our Men's club tourney Saturday 7/13. The course is in great shape, I pretty much agree with kviser's review "The fairways were in excellent shape, very lush and dark green, with great lies to hit from. The rough was a lush mix of grasses and you could end up sitting up or down deep. The sand in the bunkers was plentiful and soft. A couple of tees were not very level" - that pretty much was my experience. The greens were lush, some ball marks, and were running on the slow side.

Customer Service was good, the front desk person came out to check with our tourney director couple times to welcome us, ask about our club, and to see how our lineup was going. Cart girl came around several times during our round. Note - if you are planning to have brkfst get the sandwich, much better value than the burrito. There are other things on the menu but those two are the quickest. Also DO NOT order the OJ, I think it may have been TANG, but def not oj.

Played on Sunday afternoon with Fear. The greens were in great shape: medium-fast, mostly smooth (I saw a couple of putts hop a bit), and fairly soft and receptive. The fairways were in excellent shape, very lush and dark green, with great lies to hit from. The rough was a lush mix of grasses and you could end up sitting up or down deep. The sand in the bunkers was plentiful and soft. A couple of tees were not very level, most notably the blues at #11. It was warm today, but quite a bit cooler than the inland valley heat.

Weather: High humidity light winds 70 degrees perfect golf weather

POP: Walking in just under 4 hours

Greens: 7/10. They were healthy, slow around a 9 on the stimp with about the least amount of ballmarks that I have seen on this course. They putted fairly true with some minimal bounces. Most all the greens have undulation to them and they can stick the pins in some crazy spots which they probably did for the City championships last weekend

Fairways: 8/10 Probably the highest I have ever rated these fairways. Years ago they had a drainage issue, some flooding and then just crappy conditions. Buena has to be commended for re-doing many of these fairways and getting them to the condition they are in today. They were thick, lush and green and did not produce that much roll on drives. Just beautiful presentation.

Rough 8/10 Healthy, lush, green and around 3 inches lining the fairways. You want to stay out of it...great shape

Bunkers 8/10...Nice beach sand that was raked however a couple of bunkers were wet from morning sprinklers?

Tees: 6.5/10 Only bad part of the course as there were many un-level tees and some divot damage on par 3's. Otherwise lush green grass.

Layout: This is a super short tight course at just under 6000yds that has trees waiting to gobble up an errant drive. If you can hit your driver long and straight there are multiple scoring chances on the front. Afternoon wind can cause havoc and the course for sure plays longer than its stated yardage.

Staff/Practice facilities: No driving range which is a bummer, just hitting cages. Vickie is the best starter in VC County, rates here are cheap and you can play twilight rates on Monday all day.....

Overall: Right now course is in its best condition I have seen it in some time.

Played Buenaventura Golf Course yesterday with GK’ers longball23 (his friend Mack) and Pedro7071. We had a great time. Teed off just after 12:00 and got around in just over 4 hours. The course is looking very lush this time of year. The Fairways are about the best I’ve ever seen them providing perfect lies and full coverage. The Rough was lush as well and in certain spots on the course, where the kikuya is more grown out, its very challenging. As for the Greens, I was expecting them more smooth and fast considering they just had their city championship on Saturday (I’m thinking since they cut them tight for that, they likely did not cut/roll them again yet to give them a chance to recover.) The greens did roll well, about a 9 to 10 speed, with occasional bumpiness. I was in the Bunkers a couple times, the sand quality is good but since it’s the time of year where a lot of watering is taking place, you will sometime find a pretty wet one. We played the back tees and the tee boxes where lush, had minimal divot damage yet there are some needing to be leveled better. Overall I think the course is in great shape. It’s a fun layout, short and tight, many mature trees, mostly flat, has well protected green complexes, challenging greens, easy to walk and very affordable. This is probably the best time of year to give Buenaventra GC a go. Recommended.

Today I played Buena Ventura Golf Course with two greenskeeper members and one non greenskeeper friend. We started our tee time at 12:00 noon and finished at 4:15 pm We had no body in front of us. The tees were decent and but needs a little TLC. The fair ways were in excellent conditions and well kept. The greens were medium fast and bunkers had plenty of sand and were very playable. The weather was excellent with a little winds but not too bad. We had a great time and today was an excellent day to have a game of golf.
