Pretty much the same conditions as the last time I was here, but the fairways were cut a little shorter this time, still too long for most people though. Fairways seem to have no "in-between" lies anymore, about 65% of it is lush, green grass-otherwise, there are dead, bare spots for your lucky ball to land in. At least they have them marked...

Maintenence is still lacking in the presentation department-sprinklers still being left on ALL day to soak a particular area that doesn't really need it-thus unnecessary standing water in lots of places throughout the course including bunkers, which as noted before looked good when dry (wasn't in any again today). In general course is unkept; lots of mucky grass clippings matted down all through the golf course/cart paths.

Greens rolled smoother than I thought they would but still had some bumps in them. There were some damaged/infiltrated/bare areas but these were mainly on the outskirts of town. I will say that the bermuda collars were in great shape!

Tee boxes as we all know are not the greatest. Not necessarily mounded like you'd normally find, just uneven with dips & bumps. Not the worst I've seen in terms of divot damage but not the best-at least someone is fixing/filling them.

Pros- I have loved this layout. This course has great sightlines. The greens were ok, but not great. The sand was also a pro.
Cons- Everything else. This course is in terrible shape. The fairways are terrible, the rough is terrible, the tee boxes are miserable. Some are literally the worst boxes I have ever played. I wish they took care of the tips here, I would actually play here if the boxes were level.
Overall- This place stinks. I won't go back for a long time

Played yesterday at 7am on a Golfnow deal of 35 per head w/cart.

This was my first time back to the course since the big fires a couple weeks ago and let me tell you - completely different than before the fires.

Teeboxes - lush. Only a couple were level but I don't think this is changing here anytime soon. Been that way for quite some time.

Fairways - unbelievable. Best I have ever seen these fairways in. Probably had to do with all the water that they had going to protect the course from the fires. Let's hope they keep this way.

Rough - thick and wicked. Definitely affected a few swings, but that's what you get when you can't keep it in the fairway. Few patchy areas, but those have always been there and are pretty far off the normal course, so if you're sittin in the patchy area, then you should probably head back to the range and work on hitting it straight.

Greens - one of two parts of the course that wasn't in great shape. Greens were shaggy and slow. There were only a few ball marks and they rolled pretty true but the slowness was cause for concern. I'd say they were maybe an 8 on the ol' stimp, and thats being a bit generous. No fungus though, like I have seen here many times before.

Sand - the other of two parts that needed work. Sand was hard. Few bunkers didn't even have rakes next to em, and a few had some standing water. Little disappointing since the rest of the course was great.

Extra Note - the lakes on front were in pretty tough shape. The lake on number 3 was standing just collecting the mosquitos, and it reiked of sulpher. My guess is that the helicopters used this to help with the drops on fighting the fire and left some chemicals behind.

Played in a tournament on 5/11. I haven't been here in several years, as the last time I played it, conditions were horrible. I was pleasantly surprised this time, though. Overall, the course was fairly lush. There were some areas of ground under repair, but nowhere near what it used to be. Tee boxes and fairways were a little too lush, and needed to be cut. I didn't get much roll on tee shots. Rough was about 3 inches, and rather punishing at times. I was only in bunkers twice. Both times, the sand was fairly heavy. The bunkers would actually be fine if they ware raked better. All of the bunkers I looked at, looked like they hadn't been maintained by the staff, along with some really poor rake jobs by golfers. The greens were actually in very good shape, with very few ball marks. They were running at about an 8 - a little too slow for my taste, so it took a few holes to get used to the speed. My only complaint was that virtually every hole was mounded. Anything other than a firm dead-center putt dove left or right. I probably lost a few strokes because of it. Pace of play was amazing for a Saturday morning - 4:20. Overall, a great day.

The driving range was irons only, and range grass was more like rough. The tee boxes were not maintained well at all, broken tees everywhere. The fairways were awful...Several tee shots I hit long and straight down fairway ended up in dirt or underneath a sprinkler which was on full blast. The rough wasn't too long, it just was so inconsistent. The bunkers, believe it or not, were actually in good shape. The greens were in good shape, rolled a little slow, but that was probably due to the morning conditions. Pace of play was about 4.5 hours.

No cart girl anywhere to be seen, but the burger at the turn was good.

This course is just disappointing, but it isn't too expensive. I guess you get what you pay for. Definitely better courses to play in Ventura County.

Well, course has drastically improved since I was here, but probably because they water this place like crazy! Standing water everywhere, sprinklers on all day, no wonder the fairways look so nice. Yet at the same time the course is still rough around the edges...while the majority of a fairway will look immaculate, there are random patches of bare spots (essentially mud from overwatering) or standing water throughout. Fairways were also too long for my taste...had drives go 20 yards less than normal today.
Because of the overwatering, bunkers were saturated beyond belief but seemed to have good sand when dry. Rough was in the same condition as when I was here last, hit or miss. It was where most of the brown (yet soaked) patches were, almost nonexistent in spots, infiltrated with weeds & different grasses in others, or nice and lush in spots.
Tee boxes were fine, surprisingly very few divots. Some were not completely level but nothing too major.
Greens still showed very slight signs of aeration, but nothing was bad enough to bump a putt offline-they rolled for the most part well, maybe a tad slow for most people. Very few ballmarks.
Overall, the course looks great at first sight, but whoever is the maintenance guy/course superintendent does not know how to make a course look good without turning it into a lake. Frustrating because the course is extremely inconsistent except for the greens. Once they stop dousing the course with water & things green up more or at least look good I will be back.
POP was just under 4.5 hrs.

Played Sunday 3/24/13. Teed off at 7:39. POP was 4:15. The course was extremely wet the first few holes. After reading Longball's previous review, I was a bit nervous about the conditions, but I was pleasantly surprised. They aerated about 3 weeks ago, and it has helped the fairways immensely. Most of the fairways were beautifully green and lush. Not cut too tight, but not shaggy either. Don't get me wrong, there are some major trouble spots in some of the fairways...# 7 comes to mind. There are some areas of ground under repair and some hard pan, but overall they were nice and lush. The tee boxes tend to be a bit uneven here, but not a problem for me. The greens weren't rolling as well as they did the last time I played here. This time I found them to be very lush and receptive, but more bumpy than I care for. That could be due to the recent aeration and letting the greens grow...they could use a good rolling. For $60 on a weekend, I like Camarillo Springs. This is my go-to course when I can't find an early morning tee time elsewhere, normally they don't book up until later in the week. The greens will hopefully be rolling smoother next time I play here. If not, I may have to re-evaluate it being in the rotation.

Oh my...hello everyone here is a review of Camarillo Springs Golf course which I played this morning 2/19/13 with my buddy and GK member Pedro7170. To put it nicely this course needs some love. Fairways: 3/10...many mud, hardpan and different grasses growing throughout the fairways. On many holes they have roto-killed the fairways. Had two drives today that were bombed 270ish and stopped in mud backwards...lol Tees: 3/10.... Very un-level as I played a combo of blue tees and stepped back on some holes to play the black tees for views. Contained many divots and some sandy areas. Greens: 6.5/10..... Highlight of the course holding shots with spin and putting semi-firm. Very little to no ball mark damage. Some greens contained a little bounce but not bad overall considering other parts of the course Sand Bunkers: 7/10...raked with plenty of sand.... Rough: 4/10....some areas lining the fairways had thick 2-3 inches green lush rough, other areas were hardpan and muddy Layout: 8/10...awesome challenging layout especially the first 6 holes from the blue or black tees....some scoring holes on the back nine...we had a good cold wind today so it was a nice pleasant challenge. Staff: Ryan in the pro-shop was friendly and got us right on as a walk-up threesome which was appreciated. POP walking was 3 hours 50 minutes trying to beat the rain... For sure due to current conditions will not be in my rotation...I am not even sure the twilight rate of $24.00 bucks walking is even worth it... My advice is take the extra drive out to the Oxnard, Ventura and Ojai areas if wanting to play in this vicinity......maybe will see you in several more years Camarillo Springs

Played Camarillo Springs on Saturday, 2/2/13 with my normal foursome. Practice areas are adequate. They definitely need to replace the mats at the range, but the putting green and chipping area are well maintained. Overall, the course was in fair shape. The POP was about 4 hrs 15 min., and we were not pushed, or rushing anyone all day. In southern California, that is a rarity. We paid $55 for a Saturday morning tee time, and the fee was worth the money. The course definitely spends most of their maintenance money on the greens....as it should be on municipal courses. For the most part, the greens rolled true and realtively quick. I made multiple putts over 15 ft, so to me that means that the greens are rolling true and holding lines. LOVE THAT!!!! The fairways are pretty shabby overall, but they are still playable. The rough is a bit shabby as well, but growing well, and about 3 inches long. Tee boxes were cut, but were pretty uneven. For $55, this course isn't in bad shape...just dont expect a $110 course for $55. Was it worth $55? Yes. Definitely. My foursome had a great time. No cart girls on course...bar/restaurant after the round was quite enjoyable. In short, this course could definitely do better with maintenance, but they could do worse. Last week I reviewed Los Robles...the greens there were awful. Camarillo Springs' greens are much more enjoyable. Will definately be back. Hit 'em well!!
