Enjoyed an early a.m. round with lavega21, thanks to Luis for setting this up. He had a deal through Teeoff.com for $20 with a cart. POP was good, we played the blues (6530/71.6/127) in slightly less than 4H as a 3some. The greens have a decent amount of ballmarks but still putt nice, firm & medium fast. The traps are nicely maintained with good sand. The fairways are as good as I have ever seen them @ Olivas. Mowed down low but with decent coverage. Very few bad spots or GUR areas. Considering the amount of play they get here, both the greens and fairways are ++. The rough has been shaved down in many areas that used to be knee deep. Nicely maintained, you will get a combination of hardpan, lush grass, native weeds and native rough that can be very punitive in places. The tees were in excellent shape overall, nicely maintained. All the par 3 tee divots had been recently sanded/filled. Customer Service was, as usual, ++. Excellent value, especially for the conditions.

Played twilight with my buddy Nickesquire1. Olivas is in good shape from tee to green. The fairways are semi-lush with some areas of firm turf. Good lies in the fairways and not too many divots. The tees are semi-lush and mostly all of them are level. Some areas on par 3 tees have some minor sand and divots but not to bad. Was not in any greenside bunkers but they looked to be raked with white marble sand and in good shape. Was in one fairway bunker that was raked and in nice shape. The greens are putting probably around a 9.5 on the stimp speed wise. Uphillers and putts into the wind need to be struck firm and downhillers need to be struck with care. Quite a few extra ballmarks we fixed today from groups in front of us. Pace of play was great. We played 29 holes and flew around the course. Staff very friendly, great practice area and the deal we got today for $23.99 with a cart was a great deal.

Enjoyed a early p.m. round in windy conditions with GDR23 for $23.99 (cart included) on an EZLinks special. We got in 29 holes before dark, playing the blues (6530/72.4/132) in 4h, 15m. After completing 18, with no one in front of us, we played another 11 holes from the blacks in less than 2 hours. So we got in 29 holes on a Friday afternoon in a little over 6H, not bad! The greens were medium fast and bumpy @ times. Decent, but not as good as they used to be by previous Olivas standards, plus there were a ton of ball marks. The fairways were good to very good overall, I had lush lies on the fairways I hit. The tees were very good overall, even the par 3 tees were in relatively good shape. The first cut of rough is nicely manicured, and they have cut down much of the native stuff since the last time I played here. Good move in my opinion, both from a playabilty and pace of play perspective. Nothing worse than losing a ball barely out of the fairway, which could happen on almost any hole @ Olivas when they let the native stuff grow to knee deep like when it 1st re-opened after renovation. The sand traps were very nicely maintained with fluffy white sand. Nothing about the course today was not well above average. Olivas is one of my all-time favorite courses to play, & @ $23.99 with a cart, it's an awesome value.

Played here on Tuesday, 7/29 after finishing up at River Ridge Vineyard to play the second round of the day with my buddy. We got there and got on at 4:35 and got off at about 8:15, having significantly slowed our pace of play the last 5-6 holes to enjoy the sunset.

Play started on the back nine this day, which I feel has a tougher opening three holes than the first three. No excuses since we were warm from before, but this plus a FIERCE wind definitely set the round off with a few high scores on my part. Luckily, the wind calmed down and was extremely playable for most of the day and I was able to post a few good scores where possible.

This is a very challenging course, and played a lot firmer than River Ridge. Especially with the wind, you have to be focused on every shot or you will find yourself in a tough spot. I hadn't played here in a couple years, and with the drought I found that the native areas are a lot less treacherous. This means you might actually be able to play out of them. Regardless, it is important to manage this course well and stay in the fairway. Much like my River Ridge review, I don't have much else to add from everybody else's reviews - the course is really enjoyable and is in excellent shape, and I highly recommend playing here if you are considering it.

Back again today, Saturday, and conditions have not changed much. Still great from tee to green. Consistent good lies in the fairway and around the greens. The first cut of rough is less than an inch and in good condition. Get outside the primary cut of rough and you could have a tough day; your ball might be on dirt, sand, in a bush, or in deep kikuyu grass or Bermuda grass. Bunkers had plenty of nice beach sand. Greens were a little more damaged from ball marks over the last two times I played here, but overall not bad. It is just that today the greens were real soft. Still, they rolled medium fast and true. I made out like a bandit and used reward points to play for free. :)

I played here again on Saturday, July 26, with some of the LA Golf Group guys. The course conditions here continue to be very good overall; I probably should have rated it higher than 6.7. A lot of what I saw was not the fault of the course: unrepaired ball marks, unfilled divots in fairways, and unraked footprints in bunkers. The bunker left of 18 green was a little wet. Pace of play was a little slow (5 hours) as our three groups were behind a slower event of three groups. The course personnel did a great job of accommodating us as some of our guys were stuck in traffic getting to the course. The practice facility was nice: hitting off of grass at the range, a large chipping green with a sand bunker, and another chipping area, as well as a large practice green. All in as good a condition as I have ever seen it. The price was right for me as I used some Loyal Tee program points to get a free round. If you have not played here, I would highly recommend coming out soon.

Played here on July 12th as part of the GK event, which was my first GK event. I had a great time as the environment was relaxed but everyone's enthusiasm for golf was apparent. This is my first trip to Olivas but it won't be my last as I found the course to be in excellent condition and a fair test. The tee boxes and fairways were very good. Not overwhelming so but there are some mounds in the fairway that can kick a good tee shot astray. The sand trap that I found myself in was excellent. There isn't much rough on this course except for what they designate as waste areas which it is possible to have a playable lie in but could also force you to take a drop. The greens rolled well but were a little bit on the slower side. I liked the design of the greens though and on this day the pins were placed in extreme front/back and left/right positions. The design of the greens puts a premium on accurate shots to get them close as many of them are tiered and will make the course worth playing repeatedly for the different pin placements. Also adjusting for the wind can be challenging, 2-3 clubs on some holes in what was not an overly windy day. All in all it is worth the drive from Los Angeles.
