Played Olivas Links with my buddy Nickesquire on Sat afternoon 11/29/2014 riding. Played the blue tees and got a nice holiday weekend deal for 23 bucks including cart. This was the slowest round I have played all year. 4 hours 40 minutes behind a packed tee sheet that felt like 5 and a half hours(sometimes sitting on certain tee boxes for 10-15 minutes). I guess I knew this coming in but had a great time with my buddy so that's all that mattered....what do you expect on a holiday sat. We had nice cool weather with a slight breeze. The greens were interesting on certain chips they were super firm and crusty where several chips rolled by the hole. Putting wise they were in decent shape with some ballmarks that were fresh from the groups in front of us. Was in one fairway bunker that was nicely raked and in good shape. The fairways are drying out some but still provide decent coverage. Sounds like we might be getting some rain this week which is needed. The tees were also in decent shape with a lot of divots on the par 3's. We used multiple sand bottles trying to fill in divots while we waited on tees. You can try and drive it over the corner of #11 now as there is no water and less punitive conditions there---you can also see the front left hand corner of #13 with no more big reeds in the way. I can recommend this course but if you want stellar lush conditions with little waiting---a weekday round from May through September is the best time to play here. Also of note is they did a facelift on the driving range with some new targets which looked pretty neat. I think they have the grass range open on Sat and Sundays and mats during the week.
