Enjoyed a midday round with GDR23 on a deal through Teeoff.com for $23 with a cart. POP was what you would expect for a holiday Sat. afternoon, brutal. It took us slightly more than 4 1/2 hours to play the blues (6530/71.6/127). We took advantage of absolutely beautiful weather conditions, 80ish and little wind, but finished in mostly dark conditions on #18. Had several groups not have quit, we would not have finished, it seemed more like 5.5 hours, we waited and waited on the majority of shots AD. The greens have a decent amount of ball marks but still putted nice, firm & medium fast. The traps are very well maintained with good sand. The fairways were good, semi lush & mowed down low but with decent coverage. Very few bad spots or GUR areas. Considering the amount of play they get here, both the greens and fairways are ++. The rough has been shaved down in many areas that used to be knee deep. Nicely maintained, you will get a combination of hardpan, lush grass, native weeds and native rough that can be very punitive in places. The tees were in excellent shape overall, nicely maintained & very lush. All the par 3 tee divots had been recently sanded/filled. Customer Service as usual was ++, but a drink cart or a Marshall getting some people to move would have been nice. The layout is far less challenging now that the lakes are dry and much of the native rough is mowed down than it was 5 years ago. It's almost like playing a different golf course. Excellent value, especially for the conditions.

Played Olivas Links 10/26 11:30. Course is in good shape. Greens are fine after aeration. Fairways also in good shape. Driving range is under renovation but putting green and chipping area is open. Pace not bad, never waited on the tee box. Scored better 2nd time around, 102 instead of 105.

Played Olivas this afternoon 9/29/2014 with a great EZlinks 16 dollar promo deal that included a golf cart. Was let out a little early around 1:30pm. Played the blue tees along with my buddy Pedro7170. We had a blast. POP 4 hours 30 minutes on a packed Monday after the Ryder Cup. Olivas is in very good shape. I would say the fairways, tees and sand are about as good as I have seen them. The fairways were greener today than the last time I played here. Great lies throughout. The sand bunker that I was in on #17 back right contained thick beach sand perfectly raked. The tees were lush and mostly all level. Some of the 3 pars had some divot damage but not to bad. The greens were rolling medium paced with very few bounces and in great shape. Staff and practice facility are top notch. One of the better deals I have ever had this year considering the nice conditions. Recommended.

Got the Tues all day twilight rate and the Men's Club plays early. fyi. My tee time was 10:36 which worked out fine as it was very foggy early. This is in the best shape I have ever played this course. It was a pretty slow day as a lot of players took advantage of the rate. Front nine was "gettable" as there was little to know breeze but come the afternoon ,the back nine with the ocean breeze plays a major role in club selection! 12,13,14 plays directly into the sea breeze, which to my experience is always a little heavier than a inland breeze because I believe it has to do with the salinity in the air, you can smell, and feel the "stickiness" so I was taking 1.5 to 2 clubs more. Shot a 73 and used Game Golf for the first time to track my round. I will be reviewing this product here as well. Just so worth it now, I live in Santa Monica so there is a drive involved, especially on the way back but the course is worth it. Might be aerating next month? GO USA!!!! GO PLAY!!

Played at 12 noon 9/21. Breezy and temps were very nice! Course is in great shape from tee, sand, fairway and green. Only bad was the rough, I couldn't get out of it nor can I find my ball, they should cut it down. First time playing here and I love this course. I'll be back. Not a bad drive from OC, only took 1:20 on a Sunday morning. Thank God for football Sunday.

Like the last review, we also travelled 3 hrs one way to find the only cool spot in so cal yesterday. 12:04pm tee time and finished in about 4 3/4 hrs. Did not mind the slight delay to hit shots as the we were just enjoying the cool ocean breeze and mid 70 temps. Conditions are just great from tee to green so nothing more to add to prior reviews. The only minor complaint was that after driving 3 hours to get there, the only food available was premade sandwich or hot dog at the pro shop. We'll need to leave even earlier to allow for some food time off site. Strongly recommended.

Played here Monday, 9/15 to escape the heat of the SFV. The weather was perfect. High of 76 degrees, light winds and sunny. This course is in superb condition. I have nothing negative to say. Everything from tee to green is in excellent condition. This might be the best conditioned public course in all of Southern California right now. Get out and play this gem. I played as a single (senior rate) for $29 walking. You cannot beat that!

Went out on Monday, 9/1, as a foursome—my friend, Bob, in a cart, his buddy and adult son in the second cart, and me walking, using the GK discount coupon. I had not been on this course since before the redesign and was looking forward to finally checking it out. Conditions-wise, the last couple of reviews are pretty accurate. The only variance with GDR23's review would be that we teed off around 9:45, had a 1.5 club breeze at times and the greens were definitely quick rather than medium speed. Nice course with excellent practice facilities. However there was one black mark. My friend's cart crapped out with no warning on the 16th hole. It was off to the side, on the the cart path not blocking anything, we had the group behind us right on our tail and we had a couple of holes to go. So rather than try and get it replaced (with whatever length delays that might lead to), we improvised. Bob (who is in his seventies) put his bag on the second cart and rode with his buddy, and his buddy's son walked and carried the rest of the way in along with me. When he went in at the end of the round to report the cart, Bob suggested that, in lieu of figuring out the offset in cart fee for the inconvenience, how about he grabs a soda from the cooler and call it even. The guy behind the counter said he couldn't do that, and took a "why didn't you call it in" tack, among other things—and generally not offering any offset. There was a little back and forth discussion and in the end Bob made it clear to the guy that he didn't think the situation was being handled appropriately, and eventually left. Personally, I think this situation called for the counter person to say two sentences: "Our apologies for the inconvenience of the bad cart," and " Let me reimburse you that rental fee." The point being that, when your focus is on customer service, reputation, and having people walk away happy and looking forward to returning, returning the rental fee is an opportunity to make an impression. Bob isn't on GreensKeeper, but I am. They left a bad taste in my friend's mouth on an otherwise great day. Based on the way things seem to be run there, this was probably an anomaly, but I think Olivas missed an opportunity.

3rd group out this morning 9/2/2014 at 6:20am with three buddies playing Olivas prepaid $16.00 on EzLinks. POP just over 4 hours... This course is much different in the morning. No wind calm and around 65 degrees...very pleasant. The course from tee to green was impressive. Was in one bunker left on #8 perfect raked beach sand. The greens putted medium pace and not to many ballmarks. Tees level and super lush. Fairways medium to semi-lush coverage. Staff super friendly. Recommended.
