If you like links style courses and have yet to play here, you are in for a real treat. The greens roll very true but are not overly firm. The fairways, however, are thin with too many bare spots. The waste areas with tall weeds and clumpy grass come into play more on the back 9. Even though they are not marked with red stakes or lines, if you can't find your ball in there treat it like a lateral hazard. The chipping green is just as nice as the putting green!! It is much cooler here than even just a few miles inland.

Although I like the new course, and it is completely new, I was a bit disappointed with the layout. As stated previously, the greens and tees are in great shape, and the links style is different than I've played previously. My criticism is that many of the holes seem similar; there is not a lot of variety. Many holes look the same. However there are some very interesting holes, just not enough of them.

The staff were friendly and accommodating, the practice facility is top notch, and the greens on the course are huge. The course is fun to play and I will be back...it just seems that the designer could have had a little more imagination.

Just played the new Olivas and shot 72! first time out from the back tees. First couple of holes looked shaky as there were some sand spots out on fairways. Fairways improved on the back nine a little bit. Greens and tee boxes were in GREAT shape(as they should be with new course). Totally different course than the old Olivas where you could spray the ball and still score. This course is narrow on some driving holes and places a premium on placing your ball in the fairway. Greens are tougher than the old Olivas and have some tough ridges on them. I thought back nine holes made you think a little more off of tee box and for long hitters driver is not the play on at least 2 of the tee boxes on the back nine. Wind plays in your face on the first couple of holes. Friendly staff got us out 10 minutes ahead of time and staff one first hole briefed us about new layout. Very nice short game area with seperate chipping green and putting green along with a nice grass range.

Finally a course with some character. Quite disappointed when the nearby Buena course reopened for it was a weak remodel with reduced yardage for an already short course. Olivas captures a true links feel in a creative fashion. The fairways are a bit close but there's not that much land to work with. The only misplaced aspect are the bunkers. The bunker sand and the well defined bunker shapes belong more on a parkland course than on a seaside links design. Perhaps they are easier to get out of or easier to maintain?

I suspect locals will find the course too difficult and too different from typical courses. But that's OK, for they can head down the road to Buena and River Ridge for the mundane.

Fun course. Staff friendly and helpful. Sand Traps were hard packed sand / dirt.

Rule Of Thumb…never take the 101 north to Ventura after 11:00am on a hot weekend. You’ll get caught in the great escape from the heat traffic. It sucks! Also, don’t bother playing Olivas Park to escape the heat. There are better options like River Ridge, Sterling Hills, and Buenaventura. Olivas is slated to close for renovation sometime this fall and the upkeep of the course shows it. The driving range net on the right side is gone so it’s irons only. The greens were pretty good but for the amount of rain we got, you would think the fairways would have been better. Also the service from the older staff members always seems the same…kindda like a harden sailor attitude. Maybe it’s because we were not locals or something. I don’t know but it stinks. The only positive thing about the course is the temps. 20 to 30 degrees cooler then Valley.

Played 2/6, sand generally wet and heavy, greens nice, boxes ok to poor, fairways generally ok, some thinning areas. Driving range is iron's only as the fence on the course side is blown over. Most likely won't be fixed as they are going to shut down the course in 4-6 weeks for a re-model. Heard that the re-model of Buena Ventura is very nice. Looking forward to playing it. Olivas will be shut down for about a year for it's re-work.

Well worth the 34$$. Note the staff veterans of the staff are the funniest guys and get you out quick from the waiting list! Thanks!
