Played last Friday on one of our coast trips.
Plays same as last year. POP little over 4 hours.
Waited a bit to start, but it thinned out some.
Course pretty much the same as last year. Tees quite unlevel.
Greens are bumpy and gets worse as the grow through the day.
We teed off at 1130 and you could see them get bumpier through the day.
Fairways are good, not great. Some thin spots. Rough was thick in spots and
gopher holes and weeds the further you got away from the fairway.
Bunkers are pretty good. Would be a very good course if not for the tees and greens.

Went out and played a mid-morning round 1/2/22. Course was still damp from recent rain, but not terrible Green were in good condition, tee boxes could use some love. Pace of play was great...went out ... Continue »

Went out and played a mid-morning round 1/2/22. Course was still damp from recent rain, but not terrible Green were in good condition, tee boxes could use some love. Pace of play was great...went out alone walking, passed the fivesomse (?!) ahead of me at the turn, and didn't see another group the whole way around. As this was my first time playing the course, my score was not great, but I will definitely be playing here again as the rate was reasonable, the course was challenging, but not overly demanding, and it was VERY walkable, which is nice for a person with a bad knee like myself.

Played Last Sunday the 7th. Weather little cold and windy.
This review is pretty much the same as my last from two years ago.
Tees thin and uneven. Fairways decent nothing bad or great. Rough thick in some places
bare in others. What is hard pan in summer is covered in green at the moment.
I just love the green complexes here. Old school roller coasters. Many green run away.
Problem is they are still bumpy which was made worse as they were not mowed that day.
Bunkers have deep thick sand so swing like hell to get out of them. No rakes so lots of deep foot prints. Far from perfect course because of the bumpy greens and poor tees, but I still
enjoy the heck of it. Lots of waiting on tees, but POP was only 4 1/2 hours. Just seemed a lot longer

Not lush, but fine. Fairways were a little on the long side, but once again playable.
Rough is there not to deep, but does make you shot harder. In one bunker and it was just fine. Greens. Oh boy. Many/several grass types going on. All different colors and heights.
They are bouncy, more than bumpy. Weird thing is it doesn't really effect the putts other than they get airborne. They are still pretty fast and hold their line. Firm with lots of roll out. Great layout fun and challenging. I would go back, but if uneven tees and bouncy greens bother you don't go. You'll just be unhappy.

I've played Rancho Maria dozens of times as I love the lay out. But I would not have made the three hour drive had I known the condition it would be in. The fairways had not been cut for a week, and the greens were slow and bumpy. Some bunkers had sand, some did not. I will call about course condition before I play it again.

Walked the Blues (6390/70.5/124) as part of a SLO Co. Golf tournament. Played with my neighbor Mike and his wife Doris. 4.5H POP under breezy, overcast skies in the 60's. Few true water hazards but a decent amount of lateral and OB that can catch really errant shots. The layouts main defenses are the sloping greens and the hundreds of 40+' tall trees that line every fairway set on rolling hills. They had a few tees closed for resodding. I guess my reaction would be about time, because these were probably the worst tees I have played on in 2019. Decent coverage, but most needed leveling, they had not been mowed recently and there were far too many unfixed divots. The fairways had decent coverage, much more thin than lush. They also had not been recently mowed. The rough was thin and not tall. However, it was penal because of how uneven it was. Good chance you would draw a poor lie. The sand traps were decently maintained but needed more sand. Too thin around the greens. The Poa annua greens were fairly quick but were some of the bumpiest poa greens I have putted on in awhile. And they were hard, not firm. I hit a couple of nice high irons that landed short of the pin, the first bounce was above waist high and was then chipping back from well over the green. Quick efficient check-in. $26 to walk mid morning. No drink cart, but they had an open restaurant at the clubhouse. Very basic carts, no roof or GPS. Course has basic 100/150/200 yard stones and stones on the tee boxes for yardages. All grass driving range. Older, parkland style layout with some interesting holes that has few homes anywhere around the course. Could be a fun course to play, but could not recommend with the current conditions, too rough around the edges.

Played with my neighbor Mike and 2 other nice seniors. 4.5H POP under breezy, partly cloudy skies in the 60's. $26 to walk mid morning. Older, parkland style course with some interesting holes that has few homes anywhere around the course. Walked the Blues this afternoon 6/29/2018 with RGM2525 in very breezy(2 club wind) conditions. Weather was around 65 degrees. We flew around this hilly course walking in 3 hrs 15 minutes even waiting on a couple groups on the front and back nine which we eventually played through. We paid their walking twilight fee of $20.00 which starts at 2pm. Friendly staff--putting green right next to the 1st tee--did not use the range. Pro-shop old school and their carts did not have roofs which looked totally cool and old school as well.

First time playing here--- first impressions were that it is a fun, tighter tree line course where multiple holes you are bending the driver right and left. Multiple trees come into play off the tee and sometimes on approach. Ron and I hit beautiful position tee shots on #16 and they have one of the biggest trees I have ever seen in my life guarding the green--you actually have to hit a punch shot to get to the green--I thought it was pretty cool. Some in course and off the course out of bounds comes into play which I encountered once on number 2.

The greens rolled quicker than La Purisma but were just a little bumpier. Not bad overall. They were very soft as well on approach shots. Rated 7/10

The fairways were thinner to semi-lush--if you hit a low ball here you will get some roll. Fairway rating 6/10.

The rough was pretty poor and dry here--some clumps of dead grass, some hardpan and some lusher portions--total crapshoot on what you were going to get. Rated 5/10.

Was in one bunker on number 1 that was in very good shape with softer sand. Rated 7/10.

The tees were fairly lush--some teeing grounds were un-level and you could almost always find a good stance.

Some course knowledge could come in handy on this course with sightline off tees. For $20.00 it was worth the green fee--it was fun but I would prefer La P, Mission Club or River Course at Alisal over this course. I would still recommend this course if in the area.

Played 5-4-15 afternoon in a little over 4 hours joining a twosome, using a golfnow deal for $15 including cart. Tee boxes were in good shape. Fairways were a little thin with some dried out areas but still good to play from. Rough is about the same as the fairways. Greens were rolling medium speed but very bumpy, not to many putts stayed on line. I dont play here that often, but I always enjoy it when I do, short course that is a lot of fun.
