WOW...Played today as a walk on at 10:30...got out right away with a twosome. The course is....well, My favorite. It is a love-hate relationship. The course is in awesome shape. T boxes, fairways, greens....I wasn't in the sand or hazards but it looked dry enough to get a club on it. The fringes today were firm, so bump and run is the way to go. Go for the front of the green, never the pin and you will do fine. The greens are "a rolling"! There was a little wind to day and that's when this place can drive you crazy! I just hate, (love) it. It will test your game to no end. Club selections, putting, creativity... you name it, it's all there. Just a beautiful clear day with a slight wind 10mph or so...but it seamed into you the hole day, no mater which hole you were on! ;) This place plays a little different every-time I'm here. Just awesome. If you get the chance.....GO PLAY!

Played again this Monday 10/28 with my buddy Pedro---just to add from my previous review last Monday. The tees have come in beautiful and lush..they are in great shape. The greens were rolling even better this Monday and were firm and in beautiful shape. fairways in very nice shape for this time of year--only thing that might be inconsistent as stated from a previous review is that some aprons(fringes) are firmer than others creating sort of a guessing game on how firm the bounce up to the green is going to be. Fringes were cut nice and low though---course in very good shape...real impressed

Great time with the LA Golf Group here yesterday afternoon. It was very busy out there, so 5+ hour pace of play was pretty brutal and empty water coolers throughout the course were a major tease on a pretty warm day. That really irked all of us. Also, they really closed up shop early as we finished just after 5pm, but luckily the bartender opened back up just long enough for us to grab some drinks. Beyond those "negative" things, the rest was mostly positive as the course was in nice overall shape. The greens were fantastic and diabolical, super quick and so tough to read with so many severe slopes and undulations. The fairways were a bit dry, but fitting for a links style course. The large "apron" areas around the greens were very tight and smooth. However, I do not like how soft and spongy they are. If you land on a green, you'll likely run right through, but if you land on the apron it just hits soft and stops dead. It goes a bit against the idea of a links design if you can't really play lower run-up shots as an option. They were great to putt on, but really made hitting approaches difficult. This was my second time playing here with the first time being quite a few years ago. Personally, I think the course is a tad overrated and benefits from the hype it gets because golf magazines are so in love with throwback links style courses in America. Still, it's definitely a fun change of pace in SoCal that's worth playing every so often just to try something different. The greens are a bit too wacky at times, but are the course's most distinctive characteristic and no wackier than what you'll find at Bandon Dunes, so buckle up and enjoy the ride! Played Sat 10/26 with our LA/Gk Golf Group. Course was in typical good condition for Rustic. Greens were very difficult to putt on. 2 foot putts had us all second guessing, there were no gimme's out there today. There's allot of golf options out there and once you reach the $75 green/cart fees. I have certain expectations and Rustic has always delivered for me in the past. Not so sure anymore, 5 hour plus round and other than the fun/challenging green complexes Rustic is starting to feel like an average experience. Special thanks to Johnny for coming out to support us and drop off some GK swag. Very cool start to the round and everyone really appreciated the goodies.

Played today with the Meetup.com group for our league finals. The course is in great condition. Greens were fast, with lots of break. Tees, fairways, and rough were all fine. Bunkers needed more and better sand. Pace of play was horrible: 3 hours on the front nine, then (thankfully) only 2 hours on the back. It wouldn't be such an issue with me except the pro shop did admonish everyone to keep up with the group ahead. Not too hard to do when it is all hit and wait. The three water coolers on the course were empty and it was rather warm today, so I'm not happy about that. You'd think for $59 walking in the early afternoon, they could send someone out with some Sparkletts or Arrowhead to refill the coolers. We will be back, though. Next time we will bring our own water. LOL.

Played 1st group off twilight today 10/21 with buddies. Weather was perfect, POP was great at 3 hours 35 minutes walking the blue tees..Just had a great time this afternoon. They are re-sodding the tees and you can see the lush grass going in. Looks like in a couple weeks or so the tees will be off the hook nice. The greens were sanded and punched on 10/7/2013 and are almost completely healed. Minimal bounces today on the greens. Pretty true roll and the greens were receptive-for sure a day to score on them. The fairways for being the middle October were semi-lush and I thought in pretty good shape. Seems like they are trying to perk up which is nice. Sand here even though I was not in any today is always looking compact and firm. Staff friendly-great layout- Would recommend this course to anyone--good job rustic.

Played yesterday afternoon with sr129, tonybarrett, and scott (from our LA Golf Group league). We were the first group out at 2:00 twilight. I think we were the only group out at twilight. POP was a leisurely 4:20, with nobody in front of or behind us (one single blew by us on 8). It could have been faster, but there were errant shots to search for and we did enjoy having the course to ourselves in the late afternoon. The greens (at least most of them) have been micro-punched and lightly top-dressed with sand. It should be healed up in a few days. Some areas were heat stressed, but course personnel had placed temporary sprinklers in several of those areas. Greens were somewhat soft and receptive. There were many unrepaired ball marks, though. Many of the approaches were jacked with divots and ball marks as well. Fairways and rough were great. Sand was bordering on crappy to good. I am beginning to like this course; I have been here many times over the years and have failed to see the appeal. Now I know. You need to play here on Monday afternoons.

Played this afternoon 9/23 walking first twilight out with my buddy Pedro and another nice twosome we joined. The fairways were lusher and greener today than last Monday. I am bumping my rating up to a 8/10. The rest of the course tees, greens, rough are all rated an 8/10. The course is really green I think for late summer, early fall and is playing really nice. We had some tough pin placements today, back right 2, back left 4, front on 6, back left on 11, front right on 14, back left on 15...you get the idea---it was a great challenge today. Rustic was so fun today. Having the sun go down on the back nine and looking back from the 18th tee on an empty peaceful back nine was breathtaking.

Played twice this week. One of my favorite spots to play. Greens are perfect and running at 11. Fairways a little thin, but still good. Great scenery and great layout. A must play in this area.
