Played this past Monday. Course has become much more dormant than when I played here about a month ago, making the fairways even faster. Hit my opening tee shot 40 yards further than I normally do. Greens are super fast, and pin placements that day were diabolical, making this round slightly less enjoyable than most when you barely tap a 10ft putt & it goes 13 feet by on a mainly flat surface. Other than that, course conditions were good as usual. Traps were more rocky than sandy but still definitely playable-just less of a divot than one might be used to. Tee boxes were in very good shape, and rough seemed to be a little more lush than when I was last here. Overall another good round that is definitely worth the extra bucks.

Tee Time- Monday 1/7/2013 12 noon let out 15 minutes early around 11:45am. Played as a single with a nice single and twosome
Tees: Blue
Weather: Perfect little breeze little chilly but sun was a shining
POP: 4 hours 30 minutes walking---also got 3 extra holes in.
Greens: Beautiful, hardly any ballmarks putting around a 10 on the stimp, very healthy and green and holding shots decently--for sure the best part of the course at this time.
Tees: Level and lush for the most part, only minor divot damage on the par 3's
Fringes: Nice and firm and consistent and in good shape
Bunkers: One bunker I was in on #17 was firm, nicely raked
Fairways: Most portions of every fairway is brown, running forever and thin.
Staff: Great and friendly

I just wrote a review of this course last week and again got to play here on New Year's eve with a 9:30 am T time. Played with three friends and this day was were this course shows it's teeth! Windy as we started our round on the Back nine due to a little frost delay. It was a cold wind gusting about 10 to 20 mph which really makes this course a horse of a different color. Challenging as any course is during the wind, this place becomes the king of the hill in my book as all of our scores proved. By the time we got to the front nine, (back for us) the wind had subsided and the sun was out, and birdies were cropping up everywhere! I think of this course as a gentle giant, just don't let it start breathing!! Get out there and enjoy a round as conditions have not changed since my last post, just a little wind is all ;)

Played Sat Dec 15th. Beautiful sunny, non-windy day to start, cloudy and chilly by the finish but did not spoil a great day's golf. Fairways looked very green for winter on a links course but ball still rolled that extra bit as they remain firm. The fringes of the greens are mowed so short and are so expansive, it is difficult to tell where fringe ends and green begins. I found this to affect distance perception. I felt the GPS on the carts was not well calibrated as the yardage indicated seldom agreed with my Garmin S1. Perhaps I just had a bad piching day. The greens are pretty confounding once you actually get the ball stopped on them. The practice facility is very good and the snack-bar did a great chili and a few draft beers. Enjoyed what has become my annual round there and will definitely return and recommend the course to friends.

Ahh...Rustic Canyon, just the name alone gives me thoughts of Majestic and picturesque tranquility. Yesterday was no exception. I always play this course in the winter at least once, must be my Irish blood. Super clear and perfect conditions and little to know wind to speak of. "if there's no wind, it ain't golf" but sometimes you just want to see how your ball flight actually is and not have it take off on you. The course is in fair to great shape. Fairways are what you would expect for winter, semi bare spots, hard in others. The sand was a little crusty as we have had some recent rains but managable. Tee boxes were in the same fair condition. Greens were in fair to great shape, some unfixed ball marks here and there. Putting at Rustic is truley an art as there really are no "gimmies". The greens are tricky to read and speed is everything.
This is a links style course so you should adjust your game accordingly. The ground game is critical as the greens play to a bump & run approach. Very fun and challinging.

Staff and practice facility: Nice- they added some new targets on the range and have kept their chipping and putting green in nice shape. They also have a bunker area located right near the chipping green
Greens: Best part of the course running close to a 10, firm on chips and approach shots. Putting pure-not as fast as I have seen them but in good shape. Very little to no ballmarks on the greens, players seem to be fixing more ballmarks here
Fairways: Green for the most part, some hard pan lies here and there but last weeks rains have really made them more lush.
Fringes: Mowed very nicely and cut tight. Most importantly on this course each fringe is playing the same way so you pretty much know what your ball is going to do if you land it short.
Rough: Was lush off the fairways 3-4 inches in spots and had more grab than I remember last time out--its very healthy and in good shape
Tee Boxes: Only minor divot damage on the par 3's---tees for the most part are all level with lush grass
Bunkers: Here's where it is a crap shoot. They have filled some bunkers with soft sand and others are firmer almost dirt like sand. What's really confusing was on #2 they had rakes around a couple of the bunkers and no rakes in other bunkers. No rakes meaning you can ground your club and rakes meaning you can't ground your club. They need to define which bunkers are waste bunkers and which are not. Guess you need to really pay attention to see whether there is a rake nearby. The two bunkers in question were right next to each other and looked similar.
POP: Today a lot of golfers out on the course for a Monday taking advantage of the great weather--it took us 4 hours 40 minutes.
Layout: One of the best back nine's in the county.

Played 11/19. Course is in great shape, consistently one of the best in my area. Fairways had some brown spots, but unlike most courses, they weren't a hassle/nuisance. Fairways were cut SUPER short so you got a lot of roll out of your tee shots. Areas that impressed me the most were the shaved banks/bailout areas around the greens-they were immaculate.
Course is made even better by being way more of a challenge than anything else around with the layout, setting, and way it makes you think. Many golfers will have to think about what to hit next instead of automatically pulling out a club based on distance.
Only negative I'd say is that if you are a high handicapper it could be easy to get frustrated especially with the crazy undulations in some of the greens (ahem...#5 & 12). You can feel like you're putting across a continent if you end up in the wrong spot.

Played Sun 11/18 at twilight. Course in great overall shape tee to green, no complaints to be found. The greens were fast and smooth but really difficult to put on with lots of break and severally undulating contours. This course to me is all about putting. The staff, practice facilities and all aspects surrounding your golf experience are top notch. The pace was fantastic at just over 4 hours for a weekend twilight round. Planning my next trip back already but first need to practice with the short stick.

We got out about 10 min. late. After the first 2 holes we never waited on a shot. POP was right at 4:15.
The course was in very good shape. Tee boxes nice and level and not beat up.
Fairways cut tight and had lots of roll. The rough was manageable not overly long unless you were in the native grasses then it was almost hopeless.
Bunkers where a mixed bag. Most were very hard with very little sand and some where quite soft.
The greens are the most interesting part of this layout. Lots of breaks and quite quick.
I like the run ups to the greens and how you can putt from 20-30 yards out and still get it close.
Overall a very nice afternoon round with a great group of people. A big thank you to Tony for setting this up. I wish this course was not so far from my house. I would play here more often.
