3/12/2011. First time playing this course. I was VERY impressed. Great layout. Course was in very good condition. Greens were fast and smooth. Fairways, tees and bunkers were in good shape. A lot of the holes really made you think about your approach shot. Do I need to fly it to the hole, or come up short and let the ball run up to the hole. Overall, one of the best courses in So. Cal for the $$$. Wouls recommend this course to anyone.

Played Sunday, frost delay until 7:20. We were a twosome at 6:50 that they put with the 6:30 t-time (first out). They should have a test for people that play early. The two guys that they put us with didn't have a clue about ready golf and played from the wrong tee box. They could have care less about the all foursomes behind us. We keep trying to get them to speed it up but to no avail. My partner and play fast and this was embarassing. We let one group play through thinking if they had a group to follow, they would keep up. That did not happen, so we just keep plating ahead of them.

Now the course is in good shape and is always a fun track. Worth the drive and the money.

Excellent golf course. Minimal-links style golf which reminds me of the courses back in Australia.
Really well priced twilight rates and that is the main reason I keep doing the drive up from LA.

The condition of the course is superb with nice lush fairways and slick greens. The course plays really tough when the wind is blowing and can be a push over if it's still (a rarity!).
A lot of long irons are required to keep in play.
Some extremely well designed short-holes like the 3rd and 12th. It's always nice to hit four-iron, wedge around a corner onto a green.
Lovely course, hopefully I can get the ball in play more often next time to set up a good round.

Course conditions very good overall. Fairways seemed a little thinner and dried out in spots, but generally very nice. Rough was up a bit more than usual here and healthy in spots. Tee boxes great - sand hard packed, wet and gravelly. Typical in other words for Rustic.

Greens were medium speed (plenty fast for here) and generally very smooth - parts of that fungus are appearing again on 1, 18 and one other hole, but it's generally isolated and not in the line of play.

Both the rough, fairways and a few tee boxes suffering from a pervasive burrowing animal problem. It's not everywhere, but if you walk the course the holes are quite noticeable throughout.

Pace of play good for a Sunday.

For 24 bucks walking weekdays this is by far the best deal in greater Los Angeles.

For 24 bucks walking weekdays this is by far the best deal in greater Los Angeles.

Course is in superb condition - tees lush and level; fairways lush and firm with tons of run-out; no real rough to speak of; sand is spotty as usual here; greens and approaches were great with hardly any ballmark damage - running medium speed although still plenty speedy downhill. Just as well as the wind was howling and blowing the ball all over the place.

In the Santa Ana's, this place either plays downwind or directly in its teeth. The wind seems to get stronger on the back as you go further into the canyon. 5, 9, 10, 11, 13 were all brutal. While on 1, 2 and 16, 18 350 yard drives plus were the order of the day with an easy swing.

Great challenge of all parts of your game especially so in the wind.

Love the fairways, as there are parts where you can and I did, putt from about 100 yards out. The fairways were great for the couple I was in. Rough was inconsistent as some places was thick, some nice and perfect, and some bare. Bring extra balls, because most average golfers will lose a few to ESA's or mountains. Good times with the league play today as always.

Got out today, 1-30, with the GK Golf League – Los Angeles…what a great group of guys and course. Paisano and Tonybarrett have nailed it with this group as they are a fun/good mix of players from all parts of Los Angeles/Ventura county. I felt very comfortable at my first event although that did not help my game much!

After all the beautiful weather we finally got a rainy day. Fortunately only a few heavy bands of moisture came through during our round and the course was in GREAT shape. At times we were thankful for the wet weather because despite the rain, the greens were running fast. Loved the greens today. The fairways were in great shape too, lush/at times thin and firm. Rough was cut low with the occasional super deep fescue. Sand Traps well ranked but had firm/poor sand quality. Tee boxes in the same shape as the fairways. Our pace of play was fast as we finished on a Sunday in under 5 hours. The service in the proshop and on the course was excellent.

I’ve always felt having played Rustic Canyon for years that February – March (before green aeration) provides the best playing conditions the course can offer. Its plays firm as it was designed and lush at a great price. What more could you ask?

Played late morning 1/24 and was glad I did..This is the best that I have seen the greens in years. I was told they are running at an 11 stimp...several holes felt like a 13 stimp..would not wnt to see them any faster...I would encourage players to play right now as the greens are so pure and are putting beautiful. They only are holding shots with spin and higher trajectory....the fairways are green and thin with a ton of roll. They are in decent to good shape with divot damage here and there. Tees green and thin and in good shape....they have added some sand to the bunkers(left of #18 and left of #15 in some spots). Course is so firm right now and a blast to play. Starter very friendly and mid day and twilight rates during the week cannot be beat...have fun.
