Course is in good shape after the rains. The greens are a bit slower right now which will be easier than the norm. Once they cut them short again it will speed things up. The course has some great holes which always has me wanting to come back. Not truly my favorite course but it is a good test of your skills. You need to play this course more than once in a while to begin scoring well. Then you will dial it in! If the wind is blowing expect your score to be higher!

Played late this morning 11/11 and I must say Rustic's greens are getting back to almost perfect shape....quick and putting pure like glass..prob close to an 11 or so on the stimp....great shape with little to no ball mark damage....must stay below the pins here. Fairways had nice coverage and the balls were rolling crazy downwind. The fringes looked to be in good shape but were inconsistent as far as firmness from hole to hole. Tee boxes are always level here with just enough grass coverage. Pace of play was great today for a holiday as we finished in just over 4 hours. This place is looking nice and is in good shape, if its windy here buckle down and get ready to play some true touch golf.

Played here with my golfing partner yesterday. This course features a real links style of golf. If you haven't played here yet, you should make it your next outing! It is definitely a different type of golf and very challenging. It features contoured, free-form green complexes and sculpted the bunkers from the natural landscape preserving and incorporating into the design the native barrancas. Rustic Canyon is an exercise in restraint with flat, wide-open fairways that fade into the native surroundings and bunkers edged with shaggy eyebrows of thick, drooping fescue. The ground game is critical as the greens play to a bump & run approach. It will really test your skills, both mentally and physically. We walked, to get the feel of the course under our feet. Fairways are beautiful and the greens are fast. No gimmes here! You can play bump and run or we were able to go for the green as they were holding shots pretty well and showed some "action". Very scenic and beautiful course. A must if you live here is Southern Cal.

3rd twilight group out today 11/1. Fairways were firm today with the wind and players were getting alot of roll. The fairways are in above average shape with mainly all areas having some nice grass coverage. Fringes were semi-firm today and you needed to have some spin coming in with low shots. Tee boxes had enough grass coverage and were also in decent shape. The greens were in good shape putting medium to firm and holding only irons with spin. The waste areas were raked but were hardpan. Pace of play was great this afternoon as well as the staff in the pro-shop. Rustic is still the best twilight deal around during the week walking for only $24.00 bucks....well worth your money.

Played Sunday morning - pace of play great. After the first hole never had to wait even though the course seemed to be quite full.

Throughout the course was lush, green and very picturesque thanks to recent rains. The fairways didn't roll out as much as a result, but on the up side, the greens were receptive. While you can usually play much of the approach on this course over the ground, today the best way to attack was through the air.

Greens were very fast even though they were a little softer than usual - they're also just a tad bumpy from the recent aerification so that added to the speed made them difficult to putt on. Also, there seemed to be remnants of some sort of fungal problem on the greens but it was localized and generally around the fringes.

Love this course for the variety, feel and overall shot quality throughout.

Greens and fairways are good for the most part, although there was one spongy section near the green that I plugged my ball half way down in, but other than that, was great. Quiet and peaceful out there in Moorpark. Pace was good and it is a good time to come here and play.

Played on Sunday, September 19, 2010 with the LA Golf Group League finals. The course is in fine condition as far as fairways and greens are concerned. Lots of ball marks and divots on the collars and approaches. It looked a little nasty in an area where a putter could be used. The rough was spotty, a little thin, and had numerous gopher holes that could swallow your ball, your cart, and most of your leg. Sand in the traps was fine and a little dusty. Better than Lost Canyons' dirt traps, but definitely not good sand. I noticed the Greenskeeper.org "Best Value" plaque in the starter's office. I guess it was given to them at a time when they didn't charge $52 to walk. Ouch! I would say for that much money, they could put some back into the course in the form of sand, maintenance, and gopher traps. Overall, I had a great time and I found the course challenging.

Rustic Canyon has been one of my favorite courses for years due to price and condition. You get a great golf outting for a good price and they seem to never disappoint.

Rustic Canyon has been one of my favorite courses for years due to price and condition. You get a great golf outting for a good price and they seem to never disappoint.

Yesterdays (9-12-10) outting was much the same. Course was in great shape. Green fairways, fast greens in great shape...The only problem...very little or no cart servise. It was a hot day and the lack of refreashments was tough. If courses don't want golfers to bring their own then they should have 2 carts running on the hotter days...Rustic Canyon is a Links Course so there isn't a lot of shade to be had and water collers are far between.

Rustic Canyon is a great course to walk and great workout to do so since it is mostly flat. More Cart service on the hotter days is needed...

But as always it was a great golf day at a well taken care of public course.

I was not expecting much conditions wise after reading some recent reviews and knowing that this is more of a winter and spring course. I was surprised and impressed to see some new grass growing in the fairways on the front nine. The fairways were in excellent shape on the front nine and have really grown in since the last time I played here. The greens are not brutal fast like they can be but I saw some improvement also with the greens since the last time I was here. They are still quick above the hole and are a test if you short side yourself. The tees were in decent to good shape to call it fair with some divot damage on some of the par 3's. The sand never changes here...it borders on waste bunker sand in most of the traps. We walked 1st twilight group out this afternoon and finished in 4 hours 30 minutes...quite a few golfers on the course today for a Monday. Pro-shop staff friendly....and for $24.00 bucks walking at twilight it is no wonder that Rustic was just named America's top course for "bang for your buck" in the September 2010 issue of Golf Magazine.
