Played Sat 6/4. Course in good shape. Pace of play was good for a Saturday, about 4 1/2 hrs. Only complaint would be some tee boxes are beat up.

Played today 1st mid day rate tee time at 11am with BigSwede from the blue tees. Conditions nice today with a slight breeze. Greens were punched on 5/2 and 5/3 and are not all the way back to being perfect yet. I would still rate them healthy and rolling decent with just a touch of sand and grain left and for sure slower than the usual quick Rustic greens. Give them another week and half or so and they should be in very good shape. Fringes were all punched today. Fairways had enough grass coverage and were in above average shape...some hardpan areas but I felt that they were improved some from the last time I played here. Rough along some of the fairways have grown up an inch or two. Tee boxes had enough grass coverage...bunkers gravel and firm. Pace of play for our group(threesome) was 4 hours 40 minutes...ton of golfers out there today enjoying a nice day.

played on 4-22-11 with my dad and brother. Course was in great condition. Greens were a challenge and really required you to spin the ball or play it at the front of the greens. Fairways were lush and very green. bunkers however were not well maintained. The links style greens were very fun and attempted several "texas wedge" shots. Well worth the drive and greens fees, I will be returning very soon.

Played 36 great holes of golf here 4/20/11. I always enjoy the golf at Rustic. I enjoy the nuance to this course. Now that I've played it over a dozen times, I feel pretty comfortable with where I need to hit it, and where I had better not hit it. It's that kind of course, which is pretty rare for a public course. Overall the course was in usual Rustic condition - the greens were a tad bumpier than normal, but looks like they are about to punch so I'm sure that may have something to do with it.

Had not been out to Rustic Canyon for a number of years...I had forgotten what a difficult golf course it is!! So many crowned greens and false fronts (and sides and backs!!!) - coupled with some tougher than normal pin-placements - made for one seriously difficult round of golf!! The course was beautiful to look at...the place drains well and the grass was as green as it could be...I would like to give it another try next year when I come back...I think next time I will look at the tee-box recommendations per handicap and play Rustic from the white tees instead of the blues. Some of the fastest greens I have played in a long time (of course our greens in India are notoriously slow!) This course can kick your (at) $$ !!!

wow. this was an awesome experience. i've never played a course with greens that segue right into a 360º aprons. as fun as it was to try and hold greens and put from 40-60 feet off the green, i was a novice at it and when i was faced with the challenge, my best efforts yielded 3 putts and/or extra chips. a few stray tee shots and i'm left at the end with a very enjoyable day and a 100 on my scorecard. i'm humble enough to embrace the experience for what it was though. like another golfer wrote, if you're not down for this kind of experience, you will get frustrated. i'm a very calm golfer and started getting frustrated after seeing too many 4-8 foot putts that looked straight, break about 2-4 inches. and what made it even more cooler was that it was chilly and windy too.

knowing the subtleties of this course is key and i know next time i can go back and use a bit of what it dealt me last time to score better. play this course if you're into the links-like experience. play this course if you like to be surrounded by the simi valley hills. play this course if you like great greens fees and excellent conditions.

First, I'd like to direct everyone to gymflake's description of the course. I couldn't have described it better. I really enjoyed this course. It was everything that I had read about in previous reviews. Heck, I liked the course before we even reached the clubhouse. If you've spent any time looking at (and dreaming about) links courses in books and magazines, then this one would fit the bill. Have you ever looked at a links hole and wondered to yourself, "Where are the tee boxes, and where in the world is the fairway?". Again, this course fits the bill. It just looks and feels links golf from beginning to end. The tight and firm fairways are what I would expect from a links-style course. So, too, are the shaggy, asymmetrical, shaggy bunkers, expansive aprons, and non-typical greens. The bunker placement is so intriguing. The aprons are nearly as tight as the greens, and they all have have soft to severe swales and humps. As for the greens...wow. There's so much character to the greens, and they are all so fast. They demand imagination and a deft touch. In conclusion, I'd offer that you really have to "feel" this course from tee to green, and from the first hole to the last. Keeping in mind that his course has so many rave reviews (including mine), I'd have to add that if you like to rip driver on every hole, and if you like to "pull the string" on your approach shots, this course will be an exercise in frustration for you. To all the others....enjoy!

Course was packed, but pace was still good.This course is hard with a capital H.You can easily get frustrated, I always do, but the course makes you feel like you are on vacation somewhere far away. Great surrounding views, and lots of wildlife. Hide your goodies in the cart or the squirrels will get em. Yeah, yeah I know, it's a golf course, who cares about the scenery. But man, I tell you! There is something special at the "canyon". By the way, if you register on line, you can get a free round a week before or after your birthday (Monday through Friday). All you have to do is pay for the cart.
