For 24 bucks walking weekdays this is by far the best deal in greater Los Angeles.

Course is in superb condition - tees lush and level; fairways lush and firm with tons of run-out; no real rough to speak of; sand is spotty as usual here; greens and approaches were great with hardly any ballmark damage - running medium speed although still plenty speedy downhill. Just as well as the wind was howling and blowing the ball all over the place.

In the Santa Ana's, this place either plays downwind or directly in its teeth. The wind seems to get stronger on the back as you go further into the canyon. 5, 9, 10, 11, 13 were all brutal. While on 1, 2 and 16, 18 350 yard drives plus were the order of the day with an easy swing.

Great challenge of all parts of your game especially so in the wind.

Love the fairways, as there are parts where you can and I did, putt from about 100 yards out. The fairways were great for the couple I was in. Rough was inconsistent as some places was thick, some nice and perfect, and some bare. Bring extra balls, because most average golfers will lose a few to ESA's or mountains. Good times with the league play today as always.

Got out today, 1-30, with the GK Golf League – Los Angeles…what a great group of guys and course. Paisano and Tonybarrett have nailed it with this group as they are a fun/good mix of players from all parts of Los Angeles/Ventura county. I felt very comfortable at my first event although that did not help my game much!

After all the beautiful weather we finally got a rainy day. Fortunately only a few heavy bands of moisture came through during our round and the course was in GREAT shape. At times we were thankful for the wet weather because despite the rain, the greens were running fast. Loved the greens today. The fairways were in great shape too, lush/at times thin and firm. Rough was cut low with the occasional super deep fescue. Sand Traps well ranked but had firm/poor sand quality. Tee boxes in the same shape as the fairways. Our pace of play was fast as we finished on a Sunday in under 5 hours. The service in the proshop and on the course was excellent.

I’ve always felt having played Rustic Canyon for years that February – March (before green aeration) provides the best playing conditions the course can offer. Its plays firm as it was designed and lush at a great price. What more could you ask?

Played late morning 1/24 and was glad I did..This is the best that I have seen the greens in years. I was told they are running at an 11 stimp...several holes felt like a 13 stimp..would not wnt to see them any faster...I would encourage players to play right now as the greens are so pure and are putting beautiful. They only are holding shots with spin and higher trajectory....the fairways are green and thin with a ton of roll. They are in decent to good shape with divot damage here and there. Tees green and thin and in good shape....they have added some sand to the bunkers(left of #18 and left of #15 in some spots). Course is so firm right now and a blast to play. Starter very friendly and mid day and twilight rates during the week cannot be beat...have fun.

Played today...got out late at 1:30pm with a buddy semi-windy conditions....couple words describe this course right now..Fast and Firm....fairways are running forever...hit a 370 yd drive on #1 that must have rolled 80 yds....fairways look decent but are a bit thin for my taste....the greens are so pure right now and are in great shape...they are putting super fast (11 stimp) and approaches must be hit with spin to hold...tees thin but in decent shape...pro-shop staff nice this afternoon...we finished in 3 hours 45 minutes riding just before dark...one of the best deals around....bring your "A" putting and chipping game in order to score here...if not your in for a long day

Teed off on Monday morning (1/10) at 10am with my friend. Oh boy was the wind howling. There was a consistent 30 mph wind with gusts well over 40 mph. We started off on the front 9, while earlier tee times started on the back nine to avoid a frost delay. The front nine wind was really bad. The back nine wind was so bad all we could do was laugh before, during, and after each shot. We were the only ones on the back nine. Everyone else had more sense than us.
The course is in good shape. From tee to green it's playing very well. Some of the traps were a bit firm, but not too bad. This was a day where the wind dictated everything having to do with the course - and your game. I could barely stand while taking my stance for a swing. Several times I was nearly blown over just as I started by down swing. Into the wind, you lost at least 60 or more yards. On number 10, we were dead into the wind. I hit several 3 hybrids to get the ball low and down the fairway. My last shot to the green was about 130 yards. I used the same 3 hybrid. I hit it as good as I could hit it. This club normally goes about 195 yards for me. I landed it on the green just SHORT of the pin. This was at least a 5 club wind.
But playing into the wind wasn't the most difficult part of the day. It was the greens. These greens are difficult on a calm day. But today, they were impossible. We hit several nice approach shots that landed in the middle of the green, high and soft. Not one of them stayed on the green. The wind took every ball off the green and into the surrounding rough. Even if you could keep it on the green, getting into the hole was like Mr. Toad's Wild ride at Disneyland. We had several holes where we just picked up after making 3 or 4 putts, only to find each of them roll off the green.
Hitting with the wind wasn't much better. It was so strong that you couldn't judge how far it would go. I had a 135 yard approach shot to the last hole. The pin was in the front of the green. It hit my lob wedge to the front of the green only to see it roll all the way to the back and then off. This was a well struck wedge shot. It was high and spinning. But it went about 130 yard in the air. Way over my usual 85 -90 yards with that club.
We laughed all day long at shots that just did things you could hardly imagine. This is definitely not a course to play when you have winds this high. I would never do it again. But I had the day off and what else was I gonna do?

Good, solid gofling conditions throughout - things are really lush overall after the rains.

Tees were as good as I've seen them here; fairways were very lush and rolling out well; rough was up and healthy in places which you don't always see here. They've even put some sand in some of the bunkers that were previously just gravel.

Greens were firm but holding shots generally - just a bit bumpy at times and not too fast compared to usual, about a 9 on stimp. Aprons and fringes were perhaps just a tad soft as shots that would typically release forward onto the greens were just landing and stopping at times.

Pace of play good as the course seemed pretty mellow for a weekend morn - still the best value for money golfing in LA/Ventura Co's in my opinion

Played late this morning 12/30...course is in good shape...no water puddles...fairways green and lush with great lies...tees lush with great lies.....greens must have just been cut, they were faster this time out than the last time I played the course and are in good shape. They are putting quick yet holding iron shots nicely. Waste areas and bunkers very firm clay type of sand, hardly any wind today but some of the tougher pins I have seen. Glad this is my home course...love it.
