Played on 8/20/10. Course was in good shape. Greens not excellent as they have been in the past. A little bumpy and not as fast. It's still a good test of shot making, and making you pay for wayward shots. Keep your ball in the fairway and out of the bunkers & tall rough. The greens are challenging with sloping contours. Some of the pin placements make it almost impossible it you are above the hole, because they are still fast on downhill putts. Experienced a couple of greens where putts rolled off the green a long ways because of the severe downhill speed. For seniors, the purchase of their senior card is a great bargain that will save you $$. Bring plenty of liquids for hot summer play as there is very little shade on the course.

Played 8/7 twilight. Front nine played pretty quick - less than two hours. Back nine slowed a bit, but overall good pace. The course was in OK shape. Not as good as I've seen it. Way too many ball marks on the greens. They also weren't rolling as quick as they normally are. Fairways were a little thin, but playable. I always enjoy this course. I consider myself to be an excellent putter (ave. 28 putts per round). But I've played here probably 100 times, and still can't figure the greens out :-(

Played 08/05. I would rate course as average. I played this course 3 years ago and it was in much better shape. If I did not have a discount card that gave me 40% off I would not say this course would be worth the price. The play all day rate for Lost Canyons is a much better deal. This is definitely a course that you need to know where to place your approach shot to the green or else a 4 putt is not out the realm of possibility. The best part of the round was the 2some that we were paired with - they were both friendly and knowledgable about the course.

3rd twilight group out today....course is in decent shape to call it fair...certain portions of the fairways you have green grass....couple yards away from that might be hardpan. The back nine fairways were in a little better shape than the front nine. The greens had a very light sand which did not effect putting. The greens were super receptive for Rustic's standards and were also slow. I must have fixed 8-10 ballmarks on about half of the greens(come on people). Tees level, waste sand areas firm and nasty. Pace of play 4 hours 30 minutes walking today. Looks like the course is taking some measures to get their greens back to pool table quick....still an outstanding layout and we were treated very nicely in the pro-shop.

First, I love this place and anytime I play it I feel really happy. So I played it on July 27, and was happy to be out there. I never expect truly pristine conditions at Rustic as the place has always seemed a bit rough around the edges, and that fits perfect for the course. But the place is sort of really rough at the moment. Many of the greens have mushrooms growing on them. Yes, the mushrooms have been cut off at the stem but there are little white spots all over many of the greens. Some dry spots here and there but nothing major. So over all it was fine, but there are some worrying signs out there.

Although the aeration holes were small they are still very open - no sand in sight. As a result, the greens are pretty bumpy. Given that they have also been watering them a lot to help them recover, they are playing slow (which by rustic's standards means they are glacial-paced!). Given that the biggest challenge at this course is on and around the greens, this makes it really difficult to get putts very close, even from short range (they're not holding their line). Trying to lag it from distance is no fun.

On the upside, the greens are receptive for once!

I'll be letting the greens get back in form before I return as funky putting is no way to try and post a good score around here.

Also, the front nine tees have been punched too, with large holes.

Wow what happened to Rustics once awesome greens??? Play here often and love the course, but their greens have gone south.
Hope they improve or I will just have to go to Rancho earlier.

Rustic is the best course in the LA/Ventura area for the money and just the course itself. A must play. Greens are great and fairways are wide
