rustic canyon is what i consider my home course. the staff is very helpful and the course is awesome. wide fairways that get a lot of run for good drives, and big greens. the greens as the temperature has risen have gotten very firm and balls that land on them cause awkward bumps in the green that nobody but myself and my buddies try and fix. fairways are gorgeous though, the sand is either rocks or nice and smooth. blues are fun, blacks are quite challenging. great course to play. i believe it is still 36 to walk mon-thurs which is not bad and 10$ after 5pm. hit em straight guys!

Played Rustic today and came away a bit disappointed. My tee boxes (white tees) were in horrible shape in most cases (divots, tons of sand, not level). The greens are coming back okay, but they were not as firm as normal and had some type of fungus growing on them in a few instances. The fairways were in nice shape, although there were a few really rough areas in them as well. The rough and sands traps are what they are at Rustic. I'm not sure what the deal was today, and since this is probably my favorite course I will certainly be back, but I am hoping for a huge improvement on conditions the next time I visit.

Got out Sunday 6/28 at 7:50a. Took over 5 hours to play, never saw a single marshall, and waited on every shot. Conditions were very good as previously reported by others. Same goes for the service, everyone was great. The lack of a practice putting green is slightly annoying, this requires the putter to be working. Was surprised at the number of un-repaired ball marks and un-filled divots. $73 for a weekend round with a cart is a bit high for me, do not think I will be back soon at those rates.

What a challenge, especially if you've never played a links style course. I truthfully didn't know what a links style course was before playing here, and it is definetly different then the typical course. The fairways and greens are extremely hard, which makes your ball bounce twenty feet into the air sometimes and most shots will roll an extra twenty feet plus after landing.
Interesting cutting of the greens with lots of short grass which will not keep your ball on the green like a typical course where your ball rolls up to the fringe and stops.
A very frustrating round, but a great course for the price, and an experience you won't forget. Nice staff who actually tells people to hurry up when they fall behind, so the pace of play is smooth.

A really enjoyable test - generous fairways, interesting shot requirements and very unusual green complexes. An easy course to walk and many players do. If you've ever wondered about Todd Hamilton and the long hybrid chip, this is the place to try it out. The greens are surrounded by very closely mown areas where you can chip, pitch and run, putt or bump a hybrid, and it'll make a huge difference to your score how you handle these areas. It took me three rounds to get used to the effect of the canyon - everything runs down-canyon, and the further you are down from the clubhouse the more pronounced this effect is. It's very easy to blow a down-canyon putt a mile past the hole, then leave it short coming back. Don't even get me started about sidehill putts. Many opportunities to blast your driver, especially on the back. 3 is reachable but I'm not sure it's wise, go as far left as you dare on 14. Friendly local players will give you good reads - believe them, not your lying eyes..

I played Rustic Canyon this morning starting at 6:00AM. I went there as a single and was paired up with Chuck, another single. I've played with Chuck in the past. My favorite thing about going to Rustic as a single at 6:00AM is that I will be paired up with good golfers who have all been very pleasant to spend the round with, and today was no exception.

The course is in good condition, there is no move evidence that the greens were ever plugged except a touch more sand in certain parts. The fairways were in good condition. There were some spots that were slightly brown, but that really fits in well for Rustic. I love to see great big bounces, and there were some today. The tee boxes were in good shape. The sole exception here was #4, the par three that was over watered and had standing water off to the side. Also if you wonder what is going on with the putting green that was by the first tee, it is going to become more tee box.

The pace of play today was fine. We were the first off and we walked and finished up in 3 hours and 13 minutes. The staff was fine. Ho, please not that although they have carts at this course, that it can only truly be appreciated by walking. This is an easy and pleasant walk and there is no reason to be in a cart unless you have a doctors note or are truly lazy.

Special Section #1, An Interesting Occurrence: On the 200 yard par three 6th I hit a nice 5 iron right where I was aimed a bit to the right of the green planning for it to come down the slope. It never did, it stayed there. Chuck then hit a fairway wood that started off perfect and only got better. I saw it bounce a couple times then it looked like it went in the hole. On this hole its hard to tell however because of the hummocks and whatnot. As we approached the green, I didn't see the ball. Chuck got a hole in one! I had never seen one live before, and he did it on a tough hole with a great shot. As the Australians would say, good on you Chuck.

Special Section #2, My Game: 40-45=85. I've gone back to a very old Big Bertha driver, that goes much further than my modern Taylor Made Burner. Having not hit the driver for the past year however led to one OB. Other wise the game was good for he most part. #11 was a disaster as usual, and a few three putts hurt. I think the difference of me as a 10.1 index and a 4.1 index player is stupid mistakes. I'm going to work on that part of my game next.

Rustic has been one of my favorit courses since it opened. I don't know what has happened over the last year or so. The greens are slower, and loosing the links feel. Some greens have large repairs. All greens show the past 5 or 6 cup changes, both low and high cup change. The former fantastic approaches are in terrible condition. Now when you hit your approch there is no links runout, because the approches are always wet.
I,m just quessing but I would say the course looks like the staffing is down or their theory is to pour water all over the course, instead of managing the turf. If the turf is in poor condition early in the year, what will it be like during the summer months. When a course starts to look a little down; the players don't care as much. Maybe you don't fix as many ball marks left by players ahead of your group. And now with wet greens and approches there are a lot more ball marks on this course.
The staff seems very professional. The people working on the course are very considerate of the players. Frankly it looks like this owner has lost focus on the course (turf). And that is becomming a disapointment.

I played Rustic Canyon for the first time today. You really need every club in the bag for this course. I am not a good golfer by any means but I still had a great time. All my good shots were rewarded and my bad shots were badly, badly punished. Some bunkers are just brutal. The greens were very slow but they seemed to be recovering pretty well. Not too many bumps. The pro shop staff was very friendly and helpful, as were the other guys I played with. I had a great experience and will be back often. It is a rare course that can challenge a good player but give a not so good player (like myself) a good place to work on their game and have a lot of fun and not shred them to pieces.
