played here saturday 12/15 10:30 T off My 1st time here or playing any links style course,boy what a challenge !! T boxes in good condition,found the tight lies in fairways to be a welcome challenge. Rough was moderate but the environmental sensitive areas were numerous and well placed. Greens were like oceans with undulations everywhere.With the style of course and the fairways seemingly blending into the greens made for some difficult putting situations. Greens were moderately fast to add to the prospective occaisonal 3 putt green. Service and food just great. Pace of play was a bit long but that was on us not the group in front of us since none in my group had played the course before. Yardage book purchase was a wise investment on my part.(Too bad I had to share it with my guys) This is defintely one of those courses you want to replay.

Played early on Saturday 11/24. Played 10-18 first, then 1-9. I actually thought it might help my scoring playing the tougher side first, but it didn't help. Also because of the changing wind, it always seened like we were hitting into the wind on the par 5s.
Overall, the course was in great shape.

Great place to play golf. Wish I was a local. This was my second time to play here and it was even better the second time. Requires a lot of local knowledge. I hit my approach 2 feet from the pin on nine and it rolled 50 feet off the front.......I loved it strangely enough. A thinking man's course. Course was in great shape and the contrast between course and surroundings is awesome. Great place to walk. Some holes will beat you up, and others will let you get it back. Lots of fun. I played Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend and we walked in 4.5 hours with a 12:30 tee time. Tough to beat that. I've seen lots of complaints about pace of play and I have a different theory about it. I think it has more to do with the greens. No other course have I played where a routine two putt can easily turn into a 3 or 4 putt. So better players are going to study their putts longer, and average players are going to really struggle to get the ball in the hole. Those greens are just so tricky. Wish I could play there every week.

We played on Saturday, 11/24 with a 10:00 am tee time. It took us about 5 hours to play here. The fairways and greens are in great condition. Fairways were very lush and green. Although some areas around the fairways were a little soggy from overwatering. It was a little windy when we played today.

It has been over 1 1/2 years since we played here. We enjoy playing here. This course requires accuracy. If you go way right or left with your tee shot, you will not be able to recover your ball (as there are lots of areas marked as environmental sensitive area).

The bees around the 3rd or 4th hole can get a little distracting. Apparently, the other twosome in our party told us there is a bee hive up the hill to the left of the 4th hole. The bees sure like to gather around the golf ball.

Some of the pin placements on some of the greens can be hard to get in the hole. We had a few shots where if you didn't hit it hard enough, the ball will roll back to you. In addition, the greens were a little fast today.

The staff is very friendly here. I like the improvements management has made to the driving range. We will be back here to play when we have the chance.

Pro Shop staff was superb and got us out @ 1pm twilight. Both the fairways & tees were lush and well maintained. The greens were quicker than I've seen them in awhile and were a little scary on some slopes. The bunkers were very well maintained for a links style course. The rough is grown up to the point that it's a 1/2 shot penalty if your ball nestles down a bit. Most players would not be able to advance the ball close to the green from over 150 away in thicker, taller rough than usual.

While the greens are still not 100% back to normal after being plugged last month, the course overall is as immaculate as ever. I played there on a Friday afternoon @ twilight for the 1st time recently, wow, like a night and day difference from my normal Monday afternoon outings.

First, green fees are increased almost 50% on Friday's as they split the difference in weekday and weekend rates. Second, most of their staff is part-time, and the normally excepcional Monday people were no where to be found. There were two different groups making the turn in the Pro Shop complaining about a group in front of them and the guys behind the counter seemed annoyed that they were being requested to say something to the offenders. They delivered excuse after excuse and were somewhat rude to the two people who came in. My initial thought was that if 2 different groups are complaining, then it must be a legitimate complaint.......

Second, and I have never encountered this on ANY golf course.....one of the above mentioned Pro Shop guys came around and announced to the last 4-5 foursomes on the course as it neared dusk...."Gentleman, the course is now closed, this is you last hole, walk or ride in after you finish this hole".

I can understand that they want their carts back in by a certain time, it's usually posted in the pro shop what time the carts are due by. So, restricting a cart rider to "X" time makes sense to me.

However, I was a walker on the 17th green with a good 15 minutes of daylight left........and I was prohibited from playing #18 because "the course is now closed"?

Imagine how you would feel when your sexual encounter was interrupted and prohibited right before you finished for a completely arbitrary reason, like CSI is about to start and the other party can't miss the opening credits.........give me a BREAK!!!

Played on 11/4. Course is in great shape. Tee boxes and fairways were perfect. Greens have healed from aeration. They are still a little bit soft, compared to normal.

Disregard person who posted just before me with respect to Rustic not being worth the greens fee. That is just wrong. Rustic is one of the best deals in Southern California.

Also, this is the most distinctive public course I have found from San Diego to Santa Barbara. I drive over 90 miles to play this course and it's worth it every time. One reviewer (from Scotland) pointed out, this is not a "true" links style course, and he is probably right. However, this is the only place that I know of in Southern California that even has that feel.

Rustic Canyon is awesome and everyone should try this course at least once!
