Great course, Nice links style layout with lots of hidden trouble. Greens are very nasty, huge breaks and huge in apperance. Nice and soft, you can really stop the ball. too bad it is so far away... ... Continue »

They may advertise this as being a Scottish type layout but during my 26 years living in Scotland I never saw anything like this. Very nice fairways and tees and greens not too bad either.

However, the course is severely lacking any features. Tee to green was, for the most part, just a wide expanse of flat grass. Just seemed to be a collection of very similar, long, straight holes. Also no definition between fairway and green. Had there not been a regular in our group we would have had severe trouble identifying which green we should be aiming at. No yardages on the tees, no diagrams of the hole to tell you which direction to aim (unless you pay $5 for the strokesaver in the pro shop). Seems to me like they made a good start on this course but the designers either gave up half way or ran out of money.

No marshalls spotted so, thanks to the usual inconsiderate, "its all about me" 4 ball in front, we didn't even get to finish the round. Course officials came out to collect the flags just after sundown, shepherding people off the course. Never seen anything like it before. And when we got back to the clubhouse and tried to return the rental set, the pro shop was locked up and the only guy who had the keys was out collecting the flags. He had also overcharged us for our green fees earlier and only grudgingly gave us the correct money back.

Cheap green fees do not make this place value for money.

My buddies and I had two tee times today (10 and 10:08). This was my second time playing the course (but first time was four years ago so I felt like a newbie). Here are my thoughts:
pro shop/staff: fine
tee boxes: good
fairways: very nice
greens: they aerated almost two weeks ago so they were still pretty bumpy/sandy/firm. It was a big day for the bump and run. Still, the greens are the highlight of this course. Very contoured and challenging.
layout: a lot of room, tons of waste areas, toughest work is found around the greens. Buying the yardage book proved very helpful since none of us had much course knowledge.
amenities: pretty sparse...lacks a real clubhouse...practice range ok...cart girls came around 3-4 times (plenty for us).

We had a great day...weather was fantastic (78-80 degrees, no wind)...I'm a 17 index (shot an 87) and really found the course thought provoking at times. Found myself wishing I could do an immediate replay because there are certain holes I would have played differently.

Overall I recommend this course for its value (even though it is quite a drive.

Greens create problems for most new comers. Best value in Los Angeles (unless your friend pays your green fees)

Got out to play Rustic Canyon today before they punch the greens next week. I must say with all the play that track gets, the brutally dry year we have had, it’s looks and plays terrific. Interesting was how receptive the greens were. NOT used to that but it was a welcomed treat. The greens were not pool table smooth but rolled true as and at a perfect not-too-fast not-too-slow speed. I still had my share of 3 putts although – that's Rustic for you - if you can put well out there, you can putt well anywhere. Fairways were mostly lush but thin in spots. Rough was as good as I’ve seen it in a long time…nice job out there fixing the patchy spots. Bunkers/Waste Bunkers, well raked yet firm coarse sand (goes with the style of the course). Tee Boxes mostly in good shape. Overall, it almost goes without saying - lol, this is about the best golf you can find for the price anywhere in Southern California.

Great course. Tight fairways at time, especially with the designated natural areas. Great fairways and greens though. Tough course in true links format.
