The tee boxes are lusher than many courses greens, as nice as you will see @ a public club. Many of the fairways look like Augusta National, pristine. The greens were just medium fast due to the recent rains, but still firm. And there is hardly a straight putt on the course from over 2-3 ft. away, many subtle breaks on the average 20-25 ft. putt that can make the greens an adventure on a poor putting day.

I read a recent post about poor customer service from Bret in the Pro Shop. Based on my experiences with Bret over the past 2-3 years, (probably 50+ interactions) I can say that he has always been excellent to deal with, is helpful and does a good job of getting people out in a timely manner....in other words, exactly what I'd want from a Staff Pro person.

Played twilight in the light/moderate rain this afternoon(1/22). Course is in great shape. Greens true and medium speed. Fairways in great shape. People please repair your fairway divots and pitch marks on greens(lets keep this place a gem).

New additions...they had crews putting in "real" brownish colored sand in along ravine running close to #1 green and in the pot bunker behind #3 green. This is awesome that they are doing this as shots before from there were out of "stone ground" and tough to control(now they have real sand there). Not many people out on the course today and walked it from the tips in 4 hours.....

To reply from a previous post I have been playing this course since it opened and have known Brett(starter) since he has been working at Rustic Canyon..he is and has always been professional to our group.

Played on Saturday, early and cold! Course is always in great condition. Tee boxes were great and leveled. Fairways were awesome, green and well maintained. Rough was okay, but there were some spots if you went in, forget about it. Sand wasn't great, hard not fluffy. Greens were very true and challenging. wrong speed and your ball is either coming back to you or rolling far far away from you. Wind came into affect mid round, which made the several holes on the back nine more challenging. Overall, great course layout, great weather, great group, great day.

Played also on 1/19, but went off around 1130. Poppa is 100% right about course conditions being near perfect. This course is in great shape and such an awesome, unique layout. However, pace of play for our round was 5 and 1/2 hours. Longest round I have ever had here. Waited on tee boxes with group in front of us on 4, 5, 6, and 7 for at least 15 minutes each. Pace was brutal this afternoon and I couldn't see any spots where a group had fallen behind the group in front of them. I think they are just trying to cram too many people onto this course. Or maybe people just play slow...who knows.

Either way, be aware that if you don't get off early in the morning here on the weekend, the round will likely take 5+ hours.

Played today 1/19/07.. and I love this course.. Great layout, links style course.. Tee boxes were in great shape, Greens fast, and rolling true.. For the area, Rustic Canyon probably has the best fairways during this time of year. Wind was BLOWING!! but really only comes into play for about 7 or 8 holes.. We were the 3rd group out, and it was a quick enjoyable round!!

I went out to Rustic on Wednesday 1/17 for my 7:00 tee-time eager to show my dad the course. We drove 1.5 hours only to discover it was blowing around 30 mph with frequent gusts around 60 mph. The course looked great and we were still going to play. However, the guy in the shop practically begged us, and the other four guys who showed up, not to play. Those guys ignored him and went out while we ate in hopes of it calming down. When it didn't we decided not to waste the long drive and give it a go provided that we wouldn't have to walk (as we usually do) through the canyons in those conditions. When I asked about him comp'ing a cart the guy just laughed and later I heard him joking with a cart kid about my doing so while he was surfing the net in the office. I called back later and asked how many people went out that day... some other (very friendly) guy told me about 15. I guess they should have taken my $75. Anyways, a good track but avoid the the Wednesday morning shop guy, Bret, I think.

Played 1/7/08 in the afternoon. The course was in remarkable shape considering the heavy rains of the past few days. Both the fairways and tees were lush & green, greens firm and true, a little slower than normal. The staff had obviously been working hard as all the bunkers were freshly raked and were in the best shape I have ever seen them.

Not much wind today and not that many people on the course due to the rain I am assuming days beforehand...another day in paradise at Rustic.

This is a links style course where once you get on the green your work begins. A fun course, well worth the fee.
