Played 5-4-18 early morning as a single for $34 walking and finishing in about 2 1/2 hours. Tee boxes were in good shape, mostly level and lush with some minor thin areas. Fairways were in very nice shape, mostly lush with great lies and some minor thin spots. Rough was not that long and in good shape with some thicker spots mixed in. Was not in any bunkers but they looked to be in good shape and well groomed. Greens were probably the best part of the course, rolling smooth, medium/fast and semi-soft. The course is in the best shape I have seen it in a long time, hope they keep it up.

Played today in POP 4 H. After reading the previous review, realized I had not played here in some time. Great senior rate of $34 w/cart or $22 walking (be in good shape please). Got out early but it was a cold morning, of course until we finished. They are getting ready for the Simi V Amateur in June and the course is in great shape (as stated previous). Tee boxes were clean/level. Fairways have good coverage (some brown areas can be seen) and I only had a couple of thin lies, all round (or maybe it was me). Bunkers were all raked and had no issues (in 2). Rough is thick on outside of fairways and you will find a few creeks that are hazards and some water holes. Greens are just great (running at 10) and will no doubt get faster for the tournament and they are the best I have played this year. Customer service excellent at all levels. Recommended. Look forward to going back soon.

Played Simi Hills on Monday, 4/23. Teed off at 7:45am and finished our round in 3hrs. 30 minutes in perfect weather. Overall, the course is in very good shape. Tee boxes are fine. The fairways are mostly green and lush. Every shot from the fairway had a nice cushion beneath your ball. The 3 greenside bunkers I found all had very nice firmly packed sand. The rough is a bit spotty. Some areas have 1 to 2 inches of lush grass. Others are spotty with some bare areas. Some areas on a few holes have 18 inch high grass for those tee shots that were very errant. The greens were excellent - medium/fast speed and very smooth. There were a number of areas that were being manually watered in the fairways. But they didn't pose much of an issue. We played the blue tees and found that about half of them, mostly on the back 9, were grouped with the black tees. Very fun course in very good condition. I highly recommend it.

Teed it up here on 4/9/18 with 3 others. We finished our round at 11:00 in four hours walking with was great due to strong Santa Ana winds blowing. The course is very green at this time. Tees were level and fairways were nice. The rough was okay however it was hard to find your ball in it which slows play down a lot. I had to switch to a yellow ball on the third hole due to balls we could not find off the fairway and finding fairways in that wind is tough. The greens were great as usual here running fairly fast and smooth. I will say this though, I think the push for fast play has created a inconsiderate/lazy golfer. It takes only a second to repair your ball mark but many golfers are rushing so fast they don't bother or just forget. I know I am a fast player and I am always repairing ball marks since I am on the green first waiting for my slower playing partners. And don't get me started on the raking of bunkers...this is a lost art due to the push for a three hour round. I favor a four hour round for these reasons only.

Greens aeration is going on at Simi today and tomorrow, so my experience there yesterday, 3/18, becomes somewhat irrelevant as a description of current conditions. A brief summary is in order. Well covered and level teeing grounds — don't recall hunting for a more grassy or level patch. Fairways were generally green and on the winter thin side. Most often the lie had some cushion and was pretty decent to good, but infrequently there were some tight and, less frequently, almost bare lies. Rough was reasonably forgiving and usually offered a recovery opportunity. The bunkers I experienced were pretty nice and groomed — finer than beach sand but not too soft — it kept the ball up and playable. The greens were smooth, clean, on the quick side and, based on my conversion rate of knee-knockers, pretty true. With the effects of the rains, and by the time the greens have recovered from aeration, this course should be in very nice shape.

Played 3-7-18 for $34 walking in a little under 3 1/2 hours as a twosome with some waiting on the back nine. Tee boxes were mostly level but very thin and some had a lite sanding. Fairways were on the thin side so a lot of roll out, but they are starting to fill in more from whenever they last punched. Rough was cut very short and had some minor bare areas. Was in two greenside bunkers that had a thin layer of soft sand over a much more compacted layer of firm sand. Greens were in pretty good shape firm and medium/ fast, rolling pretty true with an occasional bump.

Had a 9am tee time on Monday, 2/26 as a twosome. It was about a 4 hour round, even though we were following a "slowish" threesome. Well, the conditions of Simi Hills have deteriorated substantially since I was last here in November. We played the gold tees. Every tee box was in below average condition, with patchy grass and MANY bare dirt areas. The fairways are DRYYYYY. They have not been watering them much. There are many bare areas in the fairways, as well as some thin grassy areas. Everything is very thin and hard. The best part of the course right now is the bunkers and greens. I was in two greenside bunkers. They both had nice firm brown sand. They were a pleasure to hit from. The greens were fast and smooth. Putting on them was great. They would hold approach shots that had a good amount of spin. But other shots would roll toward the back of the green. I really like this layout, and the challenge. But the conditions of Simi Hills right now are below average. We played Balboa golf course in the Encino area last week (a L.A. city owned course) and the fairways were in better shape than Simi Hills. For the $22 senior walking rate, it was worth it. But the drought is very evident here.

Played Simi Hills Monday morning 11/13. My friend and I were paired up with a very nice couple. Pace of play was around 4 hours. Weather was perfect with a high of 76 and little to no wind. The course has significantly improved since my last time here over a month ago. The fairways are great. Mostly green and lush, with just a few areas that were thin. The rough is pretty nice at about 1 - 2 inches. Bunkers are filled with nice firm sand. A pleasure to hit out of. The greens are wonderful. Smooth, medium/fast and held shots nicely. Not too many unrepaired ball marks. The only negative is that many of the tee boxes are a little chewed up. But they are mostly level, and you can find a good spot to tee up your ball. This course has a nice variety of holes and terrain. I highly recommend it.

Played SH on Thursday, 10/5 with a 9:39am tee time. As a single I was paired up with another single and a twosome that rounded out our foursome. We were playing behind a couple of slow foursomes. Had to wait on every hole and between shots, except for the last 2 holes. This resulted in a 5 hour round. When I play here on Mondays our group is usually done in 4 hours or less.
Onto the course review. The current conditions have deteriorated since I played here a month ago. Tee boxes are chewed up some, and a little unlevel. The fairways are only in fair condition. Last month (and before that) they were very lush and a treat to hit from. Now they are thin and blotchy. I'm not sure this is due to their recent aeration or that the summer grass is dying out. The fairways are playable, but not up to their normal standards. The rough is a bit spotty and cut somewhat short - not too penal. I was in one fairway bunker and one greenside bunker. The fairway bunker was VERY firm, which I prefer. The greenside bunker was somewhat firm and thin, but OK to hit from.
The greens are the best part of the course right now. Today they were medium to fast, held shots well and rolled smoothly, with just a few minor exceptions. I enjoy the layout of this course. Hopefully, the conditions in the fairways will improve.
