I had the privilege to play Soule Park today (6/24/21) with a morning tee time. I love this place. It is in excellent condition, especially compared to most other public golf courses. The fairways are mostly lush and nicely green: abundant wonderful lies everywhere. They would also provide good roll out on most drives. I wasn't in any bunkers, but the sand appeared to be in great shape on every hole. The greens here can be quite challenging. They have many undulations, with plentiful breaks. Being on the right side of the hole is critical if you want to score well. Many of the greens are elevated. So running the ball up on the green is not always possible. You have to fly it on. The greens were running very smoothly at medium fast speeds. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about the course. It is a gem.

Played on Saturday, 6/5, with an 1p tee time. I arrived a little early and immediately fell in love with this place. I sat on the patio, just feet from the 1st tee, while enjoying a drink while soaking in the mountain and course views. It has an old-school feel to it and I could see myself playing here a lot if I was a local.

Course was in really good shape. Tee boxes were pretty good, with some divots on the par 3s. Fairways were lush with some roll. The rough changed from a little thick near the fairway to just natural as you got farther away, so some hardpan spots way away from the lushness. Bunkers were outstanding when compared to the thin desert ones I'm use to playing. The greens were faster than I was ready for, but consistent with the practice green near the clubhouse. They rolled smooth but had some ball marks.

I loved the design of the course. I found it an easy walk. Classic feel, tree lined, and some large fringe areas that start 30 yards short of the green. It took me a couple holes to realize the almost false front appearance as the it's cut to green height. The only bad part of the course was the pace. We started about 20 minutes late, and slogged to a 5+ hour round.

Walked the Orange tees Monday 6/7/2021 with my buddy Matt joined by two girls scouting out the course for the USGA Women's AM qualifier in July. We had some wind for the first 5 holes that turned into a beautiful overcast scoring day at this hidden gem up in Ojai. Pop was 4 hrs 55 minutes behind a packed tee sheet. Conditions are just beautiful right now at Soule. The fairways continue to look and play great. Good to very good lies. Mostly all green and lush rated 8/10. Greens in very good shape rolling medium speed. Fixed my share of extra ballmarks today that I saw. Rated 8/10. The bunkers here are beautiful. The 8.5/10 rating is on the quality of beach sand that they have here. Was only in one greenside bunker on 16 that had perfect sand but there were many areas that people were not raking so we did a good caddy job in cleaning and raking it up. Tees were mostly all level. Some of the boxes were thin like hole 4 but overall in pretty decent shape. Rated 7/10. Rough mainly lush, uniform and in good shape. Rated 7.5/10. Great staff, great layout great conditions. Some cool restaurants, breweries and a laid back vibe up in Ojai. Can see why all the social media buzz is coming its way. Highly recommended and a must play.

Had a great time with another single and a nice twosome at Soule Park mid-morning on Monday, 4/26/21. There was a little wind in the afternoon, but it wasn't too bad. We got around the course in just over 4 hours. So, a nice pace of play. There are few courses that I like playing as much as Soule Park. It has a great variety of holes, and is nearly always in great shape. Overall, SP is in very good condition. The only negative is found with some of the tee boxes. Some were a little unlevel, hard and chewed up. But for the most part, they were quite serviceable. The fairways are starting to green up. There are still a mix of grasses, but well-cushioned lies abound in the fairways. They are not extremely lush, but they are not thin either. They should be perfect in another month. But they are great to play right now. The rough is not much different than the fairway grass, except in a few areas, where it is 1 - 2 inches in length and not too penal. I was in 1 fairway bunker and 1 greenside bunker. The fairway bunker was nice firm sand. Easy to hit from. The greenside bunker was deep, soft sand. You need to careful not to dig too deep or the ball will stay in the bunker. The greens are in very good shape. They were firm. So lower approach shots would run out. But nicely struck higher approach shots would hold pretty well. They were smooth and ran medium-fast. The greens on this course have a lot of undulation. So being on the proper side of the hole and the right speed are keys to scoring well. Get out and play Soule Park. The green fees are very reasonable and you will enjoy yourself!

Played 3-8-21 early morning as a single for $34, and again late morning with GDR23 and another twosome for there replay rate of $16. Tee boxes were mostly okay, some of them you had to search a little for a level stance, and some were a little on the thin side, but overall decent. Fairways were okay, a mix of dormant and green grass, providing nice lies and good roll out. Rough is not much longer than fairways and in about the same condition. Was in two greenside bunkers that both had more than enough soft white sand. Greens were in nice condition, a little on the soft side and rolling medium pace and fairly smooth. Fun course in a relaxing setting, with great customer service. Highly recommended.

Walked the Oak Tees this morning 3/8/2021 teeing off around 10:30am with my buddy RGM2525 and we joined a Skins game twosome who were very enjoyable to play with. Wanted to give a shout out to Soule staff for fitting us in today considering they had a Senior Mens club and Skins game today. POP was 4 hrs 15 minutes. Greens were the highlight of the course rolling beautifully, semi-firm with little to no ballmarks. Pretty big greens complexes here and like most Gil Hanse design courses if you can putt here you can putt most places due to the undulations and size of the greens. Rated 8/10. Fairways are more thin than lush but very playable. Rating 6.5/10 Tees mostly all level and in good shape. Rated 7/10. Was in greenside bunker on 3 that had perfect sand and easy to splash out of. No rakes. Rated 8/10. Rough is thinner and dry and in decent shape for this time of year. Rated 6.5/10. Soule has a really fun layout with some super tough holes like 6,8,12 and 14 and some scoring holes like 4,5 and 18. Very enjoyable layout which never gets boring to play. Some big and tough green complexes with undulation and slope. Up and down on some shots such as 1, 8, 10. Can't wait in a couple months when this place becomes super lush. Recommended.

Walked the Oak Tees at 12 noon today 2/22/2021 joined by 2 brothers Nick and Alex who were a blast to play with. We had perfect weather 75 degrees and very little wind to speak of today. POP was 4 hrs 50 minutes behind a packed tee sheet. With weather this good and the start of the golf season and such a popular great course I can see why it was packed! Very friendly staff today in pro shop. Soule has a nice sized putting green, separate chipping green/bunker and their range is on mats.

Greens were the highlight of the course rolling beautifully, semi-firm with little to no ballmarks. Pretty big greens complexes here and like most Gil Hanse design courses if you can putt here you can putt most places due to the undulations and size of the greens. Rated 8/10.

Fairways are more thin than lush.. firm but like Mike stated in the previous review just enough padding at this time in the fairways. Come spring and summer Soule has some of the nicer fairways in the county. Rating 6.5/10

Tees mostly all level and in good shape. Rated 7/10.

Was in greenside bunkers on 3 and 16 that had perfect sand and easy to splash out of. No rakes. Rated 8/10.

Teed off at 8:30am Thursday 2/18. It was a beautiful sunny day in the low to mid 60's with little to no wind. Overall, Soule Park is in very nice shape. The fairways are in good winter condition. They are greener than most courses I've been playing lately and there is a nice cushion under your ball when in the fairway. The rough is a little inconsistent, but is not too penal unless you're in some of the areas where you shouldn't be! I was in 2 greenside bunkers. They had plenty of firm sand. Easy to hit from. The greens were running medium-fast. They held well hit shots, but were quite firm and would allow your approach shot to roll a long way if it was struck with a low trajectory. I would say that Soule Park is one of the best winter conditioned public courses in So. Cal.

Played Soule Park mid morning on Tuesday 12/8. Anticipated a very windy day. But, it turned out to be only somewhat windy. A very good day to play. No need to reiterate everything said in the previous review by Ron. What I would add is that I found the fairways to be quite firm in numerous areas. Also, the green surrounds were very firm and thin. In the non-winter months the grass around the greens is lush and a pleasure to hit from. But in winter they are very tight, which led me to putt from off the green more than I normally would. Overall, the course is a gem. I do recommend it.
