Walked the oranges with my buddy Matt yesterday 3/24/25 teeing off just before 2pm under 87 degree weather that although hot walking felt great after a colder winter. Joined by a husband/wife that just played 9. Our POP was 4 hrs 25 minutes with maybe a club wind on a very pleasant weather day. Friendly staff inside the proshop and we ate at Zaidees bar and grill after the round which has awesome fish and chips. I'm just amazed at the job the staff does up here. The fairways are a 9/10 bordering on Palm Springs level. Perfect lies. Just a few muddy areas from recent rains here in there but pretty much perfect conditions. Tees were beautiful, lush, mainly level. 8/10 Was in greenside bunker on hole 3 with perfect raked beach sand. Rated 8/10 Rough is mowed just higher than the super lush Fairways and is in great shape. 8.5/10 Greens were very healthy, accepting irons very softly and rolling at a medium pace. Rated 8/10. Conditions will only get better if that's possible. One of the best values in socal. Great layout, staff, prices and conditions. Recommended.

Hit Soule park today 12/19, for the first time in about 30 years. i never played it a lot, but the times I did when I was living in the area gave an appreciation of it as solid and scenic course. The Gil Hanse makeover was something I wanted to check out and I finally got around to it. I was not disappointed. Very nice conditions all around with some Hanse touches, like the extended close-mown areas beyond the official fringes to extend the putting options. Fairways tended to be more open and reasonably forgiving, offset with character to the greens complexes which often had significant contours to consider. Local knowledge helps because being on the correct side of the green or below the hole frequently made a big difference in your chances to score well, but often you couldn't see/gauge that from the fairway. Summarizing: tee boxes fine, fairways nice, rough not very punitive, bunkers in very nice shape, greens also in nice shape, reasonably quick and generally challenging. There is a nice flow to the course and the surrounding hills and mountains create a very attractive and somewhat dramatic setting. Pace was fairly steady, if a touch sluggish. We teed off a little after 12:00 and were the second to last group to finish on 18 with just enough daylight.

I didn't get to try it out, but the clubhouse has been improved and the restaurant there has a good reputation as a place to eat. It has open areas and places to perch with sightline to the course. Basically a cool spot whether a golfer or not. GDR25 has praised the place for its overall value and the quality of the course and I have to concur. I also have to find excuses to get back here more than every 30 years or so.

Walked the Oranges today 12/9/2024 around 11am joined by my buddy Mark and a super nice single Mike from Northern California. We had perfect weather with no wind, sunny skies and temps in the mid 60s. Pop was around 4 hrs 30 minutes. Range on mats, putting green closed this morning. Seperate small bunker/chipping area open. Very friendly vibe and staff up here always. We had delicious burgers and beers post round at Zadies Restaurant watching the sunset. Very good food here.

Golf course is in good shape for winter golf.

The greens were rolling medium paced 10.5 on the stimp and holding irons nicely. Some of the greens if short sided on chipping could be devilish. Rated 8/10

Fairways were semi lush with most areas tightly padded with nice lies. Fairways turning ever so slightly to a yellowish hue. Rated 7.5/10

Was in greenside bunkers on 3 and 17 that had perfect semi deep beach sand. Bunkers here are almost always usually immaculate. Rated 8.5/10

Most tees were level and lush with just minor divot damage on the par 3s. Rated 8/10

Rough in decent shape, cut fairly low just off the fairways. Rated 7.5/10.

Soule Park is a Parkland layout that is treelined at times. Several nice long length par 4s and a couple challenging par 3s keep the best players on their toes. Also some score able par 5s out here to take advantage of.

One of the best values bang for your buck in socal.

Walked the Oranges Monday afternoon 10/21/24 joined by my buddy Steve out from the Midwest at 140pm. Pop was 4 hrs 25 minutes. We were joined by a nice twosome under 83 degree weather with no wind. The sun setting on the back nine was for sure a camera day with how nice the conditions are now. I will echo Kevin's review below: Greens were in great shape very soft and receptive and rolling at a medium pace maybe around a 10 on the stimp. Beautiful challenging/undulating greens here. Rated 8.5/10 Fairways were very nice for late October very lush, perfect lies. Pleasure to hit from. Rated 8.5/10 Tees very lush, mostly all level and in good shape. Rated 8/10 Fairway and greenside rough were in nice shape. Rated 8/10. Was only in one bunker fairway bunker left on 17 that was in good shape. Rated 7.5/10 For the money this course is one of the best conditioned courses you can play in California. Add in great layout, friendly staff and usually great weather. Highly recommended and lots of cool eating options post round at either their restaurant or in downtown ojai.

I played here last Sunday in a small tournament. 10 AM tee. Course conditions were very good overall. Greens were in good condition, soft, rolling at a medium speed, with few ball marks. Fairways and rough had great turf coverage. Very few bare or thin areas. We played the avocado tees and they were level and lush. Bunker sand was plentiful, but some traps needed raking and many of them were on the damp side. Decent food and drinks in the clubhouse.

Can’t really say much that hasn’t already been said. Best bang for the buck in so cal. $39 to walk! I chose an early tee time, so fog played a factor for the first 3-4 holes. Had to hope to find my ... Continue »

Can’t really say much that hasn’t already been said. Best bang for the buck in so cal. $39 to walk! I chose an early tee time, so fog played a factor for the first 3-4 holes. Had to hope to find my ball after only being able to see the general direction it went. After that it was perfect. Marine layer kept sun away except last few holes and greens still ran fast despite a little moisture.

Soule Park was so fun to visit. Just an excellent course! Will not go into course design details as such are noted in prior reviews.


Played SPGC on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. It was an amazing time with wind speeds around 10 mph or less. Pace of play was around 4.75 hours. I note the following conditions:


Tee Boxes: Level and green, no significant damage. Condition above average.


Fairways: Green, lush, and defined from rough. Condition above average.


Greens: Green, medium-fast in speed, with softness. Speed about a 11 in speed but tricky with tough pin placements. Condition above average.


Sand: very well maintained, and heavy. Condition above average.


Rough: very well maintained and defined, about 3 – 5 inches. Condition above average.


Waste Areas: Waste areas were maintained with manicured nature that offered little to no recovery potential. Condition above average.


Loved the SPGC experience once again! This is a great course that thrives in quality and consistency. One of the best public courses in Ventura County and all of SoCal! Looking forward to the next opportunity to play here! And do not miss out on the dining experience after your round, maybe one of the best cheeseburgers in all of CA.

There was a group three holes behind and when we spoke to the pro shop at the turn he responded have patience and grab a beer. Speaking of beer, temperature was in the 90’s and no bev cart. I know this course isn’t run by American golf, but they seem to have the same attitude - give me your money, shut up and deal with it.

Played 7-18-24 early morning walking for $30(senior rate) and finishing in a little under 3 1/2 hours. Tee boxes were level with good coverage. Fairways lush and green with ball sitting up nicely and good padding. Rough in good condition, not to long in most areas but there is some thicker stuff. Was in one bunker with nice soft white sand. Greens rolling true with medium/fast pace and playing semi-soft. Overall course in real good shape. Great customer service. A real nice early morning walk.
