played 8-14-11. I had very high expectations before coming to this course. No bag drop attendance with average service in the pro shop. To pay the premium they charge here, I would expect better service. Did not hit balls because they weren't included with my greens fees, but the putting green was fantastic. Fairways were dry and weren't visually that nice, they had hundreds of cart lines in all different directions on every hole. They were very nice to hit off of tho, very playable but not the lushness i expected (nothing like Moorpark CC). Greens very great, the pro shop had them listed at an 11 on the stimp but they were more like a 9-10 in the afternoon. Still, the greens were the best part of the day but not perfect, some putts hit bumps throughout the day. This course is very demanding off the tee and if you miss you can shoot a very high score. I thought several of the holes were gimicky with stupid stupid stupid greens. Some greens werent just tough undulations, but almost "mini golf" holes with impossible pin locations. I shot a 73 with 34 putts. i average just under 30 putts a round so i was shocked with some of the pin locations.

Overall i enjoyed the course, nice conditions, just not quite what i had expected. (also several holes run next to a highway!!!)

Well we finished Simi Hills in 3 hours, so we decided today was a good day for 36 and we knew Tierra Rejada was close, so off we went. We walked in the clubhouse and were on the course in 15 minutes. Now that is customer service. We found this layout to be terrific and we could not have asked for better weather. All we knew about this course was what we had read on GK and the TR website and we were not disappointed. The mixture of elevation changes; short/long holes and the par 3's was wonderful. We played in 4 hours and had the luxury of not being pushed, so we could decide how we wanted to play each hole, which worked out just great. The fairways and greens are in top shape and unbelievably we never ended up on one trap, so we have no comment on those. For those of you wondering about playing this course, please do. I believe you will enjoy TR as much as we did and those who have played previously.

I went out and did a solo twilight round out here last weekend. I have played here before and I love the driving challenge this course provides so I opted out of playing the new players course they have set up for the "Tee it Forward" program. It appeared these special tees took some of the fun out of the course in my humble opinion but definitely making it easier for the less skilled golfer.(haha like I am good) Tierra Rejada can be brutal if you are having an off day. You can easily go through a few sleeves of balls and watch the penalties add up. However, I happened to be on it this day so I played great and didn't loose 1 ball and shot an 86. I can barely believe it myself. The course was in good shape for it being summer and really hot. The fairways were a tad dry but fast. The greens were a tad slow and plush. The sand traps were mostly fluffy and pristine. I love this course mainly because of the layout particularly holes 6, 7, 8 and 9. I could play those holes all day.

Played 6/30 with the gk group. Cannot add to the comments already made, well done. I can only comment on the tee it forward concept. I had not played this course before. It is a pretty tough course for new golfers, although I am not a new golfer. By moving the tees up it makes it way more playable. Some of the tees didn't seem to be so forward though.. makes for a good experience to play a full size course. I think the program idea is a good one. It will make scoring easier. The par fives will be attainable for most. Also will help on the par four holes. By observing where the blue tees were in comparison, this could be a real test. Enjoyed the course and the company. Wish I lived in the area, I would frequent this facility.

Teed it up at Tierra Rejada Golf Club Thursday with 6 fellow GK’ers from their new Players Course which is part of a national initiative of the USGA/PGA of America. Tee It Forward is actually an initiative to encourage golfers to play golf courses at lengths better aligned with their driving distances. Basically trying to get golfers to start playing shorter tees. So Tierra Rejada created a new set of tees, Green Tees, that measure 5600 yards as a new option for their players. They’ve also added many generous drops zones on the favorable sides of hazards so players will not have to re-attempt to carry them. Rather than describe the playing conditions which many of those that played Thursday have already done very accurately, I’d like to give my take on their Green (Play It Forward) Tees.

To begin with I average 10 over par for 18 holes on a regulation course. I’m a long hitter fairly accurate off the tee. The Green Tees have many par 4’s measuring 260 to 300 yards. For me, despite my better judgment, this was too big of temptation to try driving greens and boy did I pay the price. One of my playing partners who hits his driver further than me, straighter and is a scratch golfer did not ONCE try to drive a green…he shot 1 over…I shot 17 over. Tierra Rejada's layout is tight and the green complexes are heavily guarded by sand traps, slopes and water hazards. Another one of my playing partners who averages close to 110 used his driver as normal and was in much better position through out the day scoring lower than typical. To me Tierra Rejada is a perfect course to implement the Tee It Forward initiative. The Green Tees give you unique looks that you normally don’t experience at the course and soften a very difficult layout to the point where the course is more enjoyable by most golfers. Despite playing tees a 1000 yards closer than we normally do, we had a great time and needed to think our way all the way through the round. The best part of the round besides the company was we finished in under 4 hours!

I also got to play Tierra Rejada yesterday with the small GK group yesterday. I've played TR a couple of times before and really enjoyed it, but it had been years since the last time I was on this course. By way of additional clarification, TR is one course of 18 holes and the "Player's Course" is special set of tees, generally forward of the whites, set in places to shorten the course, improve angles to landing areas, and eliminate some of the more challenging topographical features. The point is to provide a more playable, accessible and hopefully enjoyable experience for those who find the regular options there too challenging. It reduces the angles for losing wayward shots and gives more opportunities to approach greens with scoring clubs. On a course like this, I would normally be a white tee kind of guy and I would go back to them in the future, but I would disabuse anyone of the notion that the green tees (Player's Course) makes it a baby course or that it completely defangs TR. While I certainly saved some strokes, there was still enough trouble to be had. I thoroughly enjoyed the test drive and think the green tees do make the course accessible for a level of player that might have found TR a bit too challenging/intimidating. For others, it changes the logic of club selections from what one would normally play and consequently presents a different set of challenges. The conditions were generally excellent: teeing grounds and fairways were very nice and the cultivated rough areas were as lush as any place I've been in a while. Plus you have wild areas, barrancas, drop-offs, etc. The greens were very good if not exactly pristine by that time of the day—receptive, a nice quick speed without being slick, and generally true. By the way, I see "pristine" so rarely it would probably hurt my game. We started off around 4:00 with a breeze factor and by the back nine it died off to a beautiful, still, late afternoon/early evening 8:00 finish. Additionally, there is a nice grass driving range and bunkered practice green down below the clubhouse. Up above the clubhouse is a large putting green that appropriately mirrors the conditions of the course greens, and a small chipping green to figure your way out of the rough. My one serious complaint—and I have pulled this out for other course reviews—is the lack of available water out on the course. Basically a fountain/restroom after the fourth hole and the clubhouse. That's all I saw. In SoCal weather, I think lack of available water borders on negligent, and on a course of this caliber, I just don't get it. I thoroughly enjoyed the company of GKers Larry and Tony as well as the rest of the group, and thanks to Johnny for making it possible.

Played the new Players course with some other GK'rs. The course is in good condition right now. The fairways are great, lush, soft and a pleasure to hit from. The rough is thick and lush and the tee boxes for the most part are level and lush. The greens are not as fast and smooth as I remember them the last time I played here. They were overall above average but I felt they were soft and bumpy compared to the lightning fast smooth surfaces of the past. Personally I did not care for the green tees but my score was 10 shots better than usual and I do see the benefit and think it is a great option for players. I was on the 9th green with a 10 footer for my third birdie of the round, 3 putted for bogie as I could not stay in the present but the forward tees allowed the for moment so guess if you want to enjoy a better score play the player tees. Tierra Rejada has some pleasant visuals and unique challenges from the tee boxes some of which are cut off by the forward tees. Overal great day and enjoyable round.

Had a great time playing with 6 other GK'ers here at the 'Player's Course' tee's. The even further forward tees did help take a lot of the big ditches and intimidating tee sots away. It was also nice to be able to hit smaller irons into greens instead of a hybrid every time. Was able to get more par's than usual, although there is some think bermuda rough near the greens that may cause one to double chip a couple of times. The fairway was great. Played at 4 pm, and finished in under 4 hours. Greens were good, but obvious trampling after a long day. Tee boxes can use a little work. I didn't get into the sand so also have no comment. I nice course, in good shape right now, and great weather currently. At least 15 degrees cooler than the valley. Had a great time here and a lot more fun teeing it up closer, makes scoring a bit better and am able to use my smaller clubs more often and get a few birdie attempts.

Played Tierra Rejada with 2 group's of GKer's this afternoon 6/30/2011. We played the new players course. Conditions of the course were above average with lush fairways and tees as well as very lush rough just off the fairways that was challenging. The greens were rolling decent and had some foot traffic and wear and tear from the morning crowd. I fixed several ball marks. I still felt they were in above average shape and holding iron and chips with some spin to them. Some of the tees needed leveling. Can't comment on the sand as I was not in any bunkers today At 5600 yds the players course gives you different looks and angles on many of the tee boxes here at Tierra Rejada. I enjoyed the day hitting 3 iron off every tee except #9, #12 and #16 where I hit driver. Tierra Rejada is target golf at its best on the front nine and has some holes to score on the back nine. Pace of play was great for our group teeing off at 4pm and finishing just before 8pm. I live just down the street and enjoy their great practice facility and range often here. This course will challenge you from the blue or black tees. Expect many sidehill, downhill and uphill stances on your iron shots. It was nice to get to play with some great GKers.
