Our Sunday afternoon round was at Tierra Rejada. Thankfully the wind wasn't too bad and it was only a club max. We played the Championship tees which are around 6500 yards. The course is what I would call a canyon layout with plenty of target golf. The front nine has a nice mix of canyon and ridgeline holes, some with some stunning views of the area. The back nine is less spectacular with some holes that criss-cross a hillside. Both nines have lots of elevation change to keep someone thinking and maybe guessing which club to hit. There are water features which add a resort feel to some of the holes. Overall, the layout is one I'm going to remember. For those reading in Northern California, the course reminded me of The Ranch course in San Jose.

I drove the ball great and the course was playing firm so I put together a good score. However, I wouldn't expect too many handicap lowering rounds here because of the narrow, sloping fairways and the potential for so many lost balls. I'm surprised that the rating and slope aren't higher! If someone can find the faiways then they could go low though. Many green complexes have backstops and sideboards that allow for creativity. I loved this aspect of the design! I played away from the pin a couple times chipping and watched the ball get closer and closer. Try to use these slopes to your advantage!

It looks like the drought has hit Tierra Rejada pretty hard. We paid $55 to ride and that is about the max I would pay. The rack rate on the weekend is nearly $100 which is a bit crazy in my opinion. The fairways didn't look good at all because they were dried out. I only got a couple so so lies which made them functional, but the aesthetics were missing. I would have liked to have seen the course before the drought started, I'm sure it would have been very pretty all green. The greens were the highlight of the maintenance! They looked beautiful, had great color, and very few ball marks. They were smooth as could be and on the quick side.

There are some controversial holes at Tierra Rejada and I didn't care for the 8th, which is a par 4 that drops over 100 feet to a skinny fairway. It is one of the signature holes, but I didn't think it was very playable. I'm glad I played the course and would recommend it, especially so someone can enjoy the views and all the brilliant par 3's!

Got matched up with Mike for an enjoyable round in sunny, low 80's weather conditions. POP was great on the front, however, we were held up by a 3some the entire back 9. Played the Blues (70.6/129/6557) in 4H, 10M on their "modified" rate of $30 including a cart. Comical sidenote: When I called to inquire when twilight started, the Pro Shop guy told me that they do not have twilight rates like "other courses", they just modify their rates at certain times of the day. OK then, when does your lowest modified rate start? The tees were OK, the par 3's needed attention. Mixture of many grasses, but mostly level & decent to hit off of. Both the fairways and rough were part lush, part thin. Very playable in good shape overall. The traps were in good shape, decently maintained. The poa annua greens putted nice, firm (occasionally soft) & medium fast. They held approach shots well. The customer service was excellent, they checked me in, matched me up with another single and we were on the 1st tee within 15 minutes of arriving. The drink cart came around once on the front. Several holes have nice, decorative and well placed water features that really come into play, and the front 9 in particular has several holes with spectacular views. The layout is somewhat quirky. However, I like it more each time I play here, many good golf holes on this course. Par 37 on the front, par 35 on the back, five par 5's and five par 3's. An extra par 5 on the front, an extra par 3 on the back. Several of the par 5's are potentially reachable for longer hitters, creating good risk/reward possibilities and there were several really good, challenging par 4's and par 3's. Most holes have elevation changes and many holes either play straight up or straight down hill. Not a course for beginners, native brush surrounds nearly every fairway and there are forced carries galore. TR would be a very challenging course to walk due to the elevation changes. The carts were good, GPS to the front, middle & back of the green with yardage markers to fairway traps on some holes. Nice course in good shape overall.

I really enjoy playing this course. I played Friday 7/3 at 1pm with my physical therapist and some of his friends. It was consistently windy from hole to hole at about 5-10mph, not too many gusts.

I found the course to be in nice shape, not the greatest shape I have seen the course in, but definitely worth the price I paid to tee off on a Friday at 1pm. think I paid about 48 bucks with cart (not sure if walking is even allowed here).

Tee boxes were mostly lush and level, with a few in need of a nice trim. not too many divot damage and it looks like they do a nice job of rotating the tees around.

Fairways were very nice, with great coverage, with the ball mostly sitting up and providing great lies. sometimes the ground underneath was a little firm and other times a little softer, but I was hitting the ball flush all day (which is a rarity!!).

Rough was a mixed bag: some places were much more penal than others, but if you missed the fairway, the rough wasn't too penal where you couldn't find your ball. in my opinion, especially on the front, this course has some narrow fairways which provides most of the challenge, but if you are able to stay on the fairway and hit green in regulation, you have a good shot at scoring well here as the greens are generally pretty good here.

the greens were not as fast as I have seen them in the past. I found them to be a touch firm; they seemed to hold short irons better than longer irons, and perhaps it were the balls I was playing, but I seemed to have a tough time putting the little bit of spin, that I can generate on the ball, in order to stop it on the green (had a few wedges that were coming down pretty steep that left a nice divot, but the ball would roll an excess of 7-10 feet. They were medium paced, baby a touch faster than medium, but they are offering some great scoring conditions at Tierra Rejada, especially if the wind is in your favor. I hit a drive on #8 10 feet from the green with an up n down for bird.

there are a few spots that if you drastically mi sh-t the ball, you will find some burnt out areas, but that would be in areas after the first cut of rough where you would have to miss badly, and on most of the other holes if you hit it that poorly, it is most likely OB and a lost ball...

pace of play was surprisingly slow as we were never really pressured from a group behind us, and waited on less than a handful of shots for the group in front of us. (2hr 40 min at the turn) but we finished in just under 5 hours. it was an enjoyable round with great company nonetheless!
