Hosted a small group tournament on 8/19/17. A lot of the players played the course for the first time and they were pretty happy with the course.

I've played once a week for the last 5 weeks (sorry for not writing a review!). And the course has been in good shape. Fairway and rough is lush, tee boxes are in good condition, and the greens are always smooth and fast. The greens take shots pretty well and reacts according to the shot that you hit. Bunkers are filled with good amount of sand, but maybe a little on the heavy side.

Customer service is always good. Marshall is always driving around to keep up pace. And they also helped me once playing as a single to jump a couple of holes and come back to play the 3 holes that I missed.

Couple of my group players said they were really impressed with the course and condition. With the 75 degree weather, they said that they would like to come back.

For me, this is the go to course for the summer. Beats playing in 100 degree weather in the Valley!

Walked the Blues (72.9-131-6875) 8:51am on 8/14/2017 with my buddy Nickesquire joined by two nice older gentleman who were a pleasure to play with but agonizing slow. Our POP was 4:35 but felt like 5:35. We were 2 holes behind holding the course up. Nick and I were in a tough position/situation but made it work. Surprised the marshall did not give us grief. We paid $28.00 on the GK walking coupon with beautiful weather mostly in the high 60's low 70's with a breeze on the back nine. I just love this course. Fairways semi-lush with a great amount of roll out. Very few divots or problem areas. Rated 7/10. Greens the highlight as always--listed at a 11.3 on the starter shack--at least that maybe quicker on downhillers. The greens were glass, smooth and in great shape and holding high trajectory irons very nicely. I am rating them an 8.5/10 bordering on a 9/10. The tees were mostly lush, level and only contained some minor divot damage on the par 3's. Rated 7.5/10 The rough was in good shape--no problem or bare areas noted. Thick in spots. rated 7.5/10 Was in greenside bunkers on #4 and #5 and #17 all contained good quality sand. Rated 7/10 Strong layout from the blues or blacks--a bit underrated on the slope and rating in my mind. Highly recommended.

Walked the Blues (6789/72.5/130) on the GK Coupon with GDR23 and 2 nice super seniors. The weather was very overcast and in the 70's. Longest 4H, 40M round I have ever played, the 2 gentleman we were paired with could be known as slow and slower. We teed off right behind the group in front of us and by the time we were on #4 green the group in front was already on #6 fairway? Gary/I were walking. Gary was in the hole on #4, I was waiting to putt and the riding 2some we were paired with were still on the other side of the 100 yard marker? Only reason we finished in 4H, 40M was we never had to wait because there were 3+ holes open in front of us by the time we were on the back and either Gary or I started going to the next tee and hitting while they were chipping back & forth across greens. People usually comment about players playing the wrong tees when they are playing the tips w/o the length or skill to do so. These guys were playing the whites, which is over 6300 yards @ RR Lakes. Not sure if it was because the Marshall said something to them or they became self aware by the back 9, but they finally moved up to the Golds. The one guy was over 80, walked to/from the cart with a cane and was hitting hybrids from inside 100 yards... and he is trying to play a 6300 yard course? The Marshall commented to Gary when he was looking over his eagle attempt on #18 that we drew a tough pairing, so evidently they were well known. Overall, this was about as good of condition as I have ever seen the Lakes courses in. The Bermuda tees were lush and had good coverage. Generally level with few unfixed divots. The Bermuda fairways were mostly lush with good coverage. Very nice to play from. The Bermuda rough also had good coverage overall. Not super deep, but long enough that playing anything more than a middle iron was unlikely. The fairway bunkers were more hard packed, softer around the greens. Overall, the sand quality was good and the traps were decently maintained. The fringes/aprons were very lush up to about 5 yards off the green. The greens were mostly smooth and firm but still held iron shots well. They putted medium fast and looked like the cover of a pool table. Easily some of the best greens I have putted on this year. The staff here is always pleasant to deal with here and RR is usually relatively on time with tee times. The Lakes course is a challenging course to play and to walk. The tee boxes on holes 11, 15 & 18 are a good distance from the last green. 2 big climbs and mostly flat otherwise, but this is not a short course and it's usually windy. No beverage cart today. Definitely recommended.

I walked the blues on Saturday 7/28 at 9:47am with Nodoubles22 for our GK Cup match. My friend Shon and his buddy Jon joined us. The course is in great shape, with the greens being the highlight. Tee boxes, fairways, and rough are all lush and beautiful right now. The bunkers are great as well. The greens were pretty fast, running 11 on the stimp. For as fast and true as they roll, it's amazing how receptive they are. Tim hit a 4 iron from 215 into the par 5 12th green that stopped like a dart! The eagle putt unfortunately just slipped by. Great hole, Tim!

The only blemish on the day was one rogue marshal that had a serious bad attitude. We had a bad hole on 6, with multiple balls in the water, and on the 7th box the marshal, at FIRST contact, was extremely rude and telling us he was going to make us move ahead a hole. NOPE! I don't think so! Well, needless to say, that contact ruined the round of golf for us, and added an unnecessary negative element to our match. After the round, I went into the pro shop to blast this mofo. I'd resigned to never return to River Ridge. After a lengthy discussion with the head pro, Susan, she'd made it all better. Susan is amazing, and River Ridge should be very thankful they have someone of her quality working for them. She calmly got Tim and I's story so she could be clear on the situation, and promised us she would definitely address it with the marshal. She gave us her sincerest apologies, and some comps to take the sting off. This is the first negative experience I have had at River Ridge, but the true colors of their staff shone through. I'll be back there next weekend.

Walked the Blues (72.9-131-6875) this morning 7/24/17 teeing off around 8:50am and finishing around 1:20pm for a 4.5 hr POP behind an entire Women's club. Joined by Andrew and Dean for a very enjoyable round. Paid $28.00 thanks to the GK coupon which is a steal for morning golf on this course. Weather was perfect 75 degrees and hardly any wind with what felt like humid conditions.

The Lakes course is in great shape right now.

Fairways beautiful mostly semi-lush green grass--ball sitting up fairly nice--very few thin lies and a treat to hit from. Rated 7.5/10.

The greens were listed as a 10.5--seen them quicker but they were still quick today and putted like glass. The lakes course always has beautiful greens. I actually stuck a few wedges in that had some backspin so I thought the greens were super receptive if you had spin or high trajectory irons. Rated 8/10

The tees were beautiful and level--very few divots only on par 3 boxes. Rated 7.5/10

Was in one greenside bunker on #7 and one fairway bunker on #12 that were perfectly raked and contained nice quality sand. Rated 7.5/10.

Rough was healthy around some of the fairway edges and green edges. In good lush and green shape. Rated 8/10.

This is a perfect course in the summer--great layout from the blue's or blacks--with the GK coupon a no brainer--highly recommended.

Played 7-14-17 early morning joining a threesome and getting around the course in a little under four hours. Tee boxes were lush and level with minimal divot damage on three pars. Fairways were in great shape, lush and green with nice roll out and great lies. Rough was in descent shape, about 1-2 inches and mostly lush with some minor thin areas. Was in two greenside bunkers that had a nice layer of good sand to hit from. Greens were in really nice shape semi-soft and rolling fast and true. Rarely do you find this course in bad shape. Always enjoy playing here for the challenge and course conditions.

The heat has officially started the yearly Oxnard swing of my tour. Walked the Lakes course Saturday 7/8 teeing off at 10:45 as a 3-some with my friends. POP was slow to start, but picked up a bit after the 6th hole, with us finishing in 4:40. It was a perfect day for golf...82 and sunny with maybe a club wind to start, picking up a bit more in the afternoon. Wayyyyy better than 107 at my house!

The heat has browned some spots in the fairways that weren't there a month ago, but, in general, the fairways are great. Lush, but firm enough to give some roll out. The tee boxes are great, the rough is thick, but not too penal. The one trap I was in on 18 was a bit thin. The greens are spectacular. Running 11.5 on the stimp and true. They're country club quality. Actually, I feel like the entire course is very close to country club quality, at maginially higher than muni prices. The staff was outstanding, as usual. Can't say enough good things about River Ridge.

Its heating up, its summer time in Southern California, which means the majority of our greens are going to be getting slower and bumpier. If you want pleasant weather combined with smooth greens, there are only so many choices, but one of your best choices is going to be River Ridge Golf Club in Oxnard.

This was the main reason for choosing River Ridge Lakes Course as host for the GK Cup 9 final and it did not disappoint. In fact, very impressive conditioning, and not just because it was the same day as the Oxnard City Championship, because it’s always in great shape, especially over the summer.

I thoroughly enjoyed my round Sunday with Nickesquire, sixpez and kassper7. Check out the photos I just posted and the GK Cup 9 recaps/video in the forums.

Greens were very fast, smooth and holding shots. Fairways in great shape and only going to get better (bermunda turf). Rough in very good condition, blend of bermunda/kikuya, inconsistent in length but lush. Bunkers in great shape, quality sand. Tee boxes in very good condition, mostly lush and level.

There is a GK Coupon posted for River Ridge Golf Club, you can find it listed in the Specials-Golf Deals page and also on the River Ridge Golf Course pages here on Greenskeeper.org, they appreciate Greenskeeper.org very much. This is a must play summer course, great conditions, fast pace of play, worth the drive and very affordable. But please note, many Southern Californian’s like to drive north on the 101 freeway to escape the heat so there will likely be a lot of traffic on Friday afternoon and all day Saturday. You’ll also run into traffic on the 101 freeway late Sunday morning/early afternoon. Plan for the traffic, be patient, once you’re at the course it will be all worth it.

Played River Ridge Victoria Lakes 18 for the second time on Sunday with the GK Cup final entourage. I was forewarned about the ridiculous speed of the greens for the regional championship or something, but to be honest they just seemed like normal, fast greens - nothing unworldly or frightening about them. They were however in very nice shape and putted rather nicely if you did get the speed down. Some interesting breaks at RR to contend with for sure. We played the blue tees and I rode in the cart as the walking of this course, while completely doable, didn't seem like such a great idea after three straight days playing those hilly Colorado courses. There are definitely some long walks in between some of the holes and a few elevations (surprisingly) to deal with along the way. I found the rest of the course conditions to be good. The fairways had some areas with very nice coverage, some a little bare, but most average to good and quite playable. The rough was pretty thick in some areas and could cause problems if not struck cleanly. Bunkers were mostly okay with a few thin ones - varying consistency to be sure. And the tee boxes were mostly fine but had a few issues. Nothing crazy. It was a beautiful day but it was a certainly on the warm side so it was a bummer, especially with big Father's Day crowds expected, that the snack shop near the 9th and 11th hole tee boxes was closed by that time in the afternoon. Other than that though, staff was very helpful and the starter was great accommodating our GK Cup shenanigans and late start. This is a very challenging 18 for a mid-handicapper but it's quite fun and really makes you appreciate playing a solid round. Unfortunately I did not leave with that feeling ... but the course was not at fault! We also got a great rate with the GK coupon so thanks for that Johnny!
