Great day at Sunset Hills CC Monday 7/28!

Thank you GDR23, barkydog1 and rgm2525 for assisting with the outing Check-In and Vivid Golf Skill Challenge. The staging area was a perfect setting for our Vivid Golf check-in tent and contest. Restaurant/Bar/Patio were open prior and after playing making some a great casual atmosphere and fun gatherings. The golf course was in fantastic shape, with smooth, medium fast, holding shots greens, lush bermunda/kikuyu fairways, short lush rough, lush level tee boxes, nice bunkers with quality sand (a little firm and moist – to be expected in July).

Sunset Hills CC is one of the original supporters of our Private Course Events. They deliver a great experience every time for our group. The staff starting with Pierre, Rodger, F & B and outside services are on it for all my golf event needs prior, during and after the events. Love this place. Thanks everyone that came to this event and others we do with Vivid Golf / Golf Moose. GK Plays are coming back soon. We’re going to have many more opportunities to play together in addition to these great days :)

Rode the blacks today 7/28/25 with buddies John,Ron and Matt as a part of the GK Golfmoose event. Pop 5 hrs under perfect golf weather 10-15mph winds mostly on the back nine and around 80 degrees for a high.

This is probably my 6th or 7th time playing here. The tees, fairways and rough are all green lush and beautifully maintained kikuya grass. Need to fly chips to the beautiful manicured greens.

Greens soft on approach shots , rolling beautiful with about medium speed. Rated 8.5/10

Fairways were in great shape. Very manicured thick kikiyu grass sitting up with perfect lies. Not much roll out on these beauties. 8.5/10

Rough thick and lush kikuyu that still had recovery opportunities. Rated 9/10

Tees in great shape. 8.5/10

Was not in any bunkers.

Layout makes you work the ball both ways mainly right to the left. Narrow treelined shots that are a blast to hit. Some elevation changes and very well designed greenside complexes that are surrounded by bunkers.

I grew up less than a mile from here. For sure a home game. Very friendly staff. Only negative would be no driving range, but if you can get past that and maybe a few quirky shots ....would recommend this course as its in terrific shape and a blast to play.

Teed it up Monday at Sunset Hills CC 3/24 with rgm2525, abbacat (Hi Wendy Kaye) and TPROVJ. What a fun day!

This was my 8th Private Course Outing at Sunset Hills CC since 2022. Our group really enjoys the experience here. The golf course was in excellent condition plus Sunset Hills CC provided a full friendly staff for F & B and bag drop service. Our outing ran very smooth.

Sunset Hills CC is a fun layout requiring very accurate shot making and excellent putting skills. Keep your ball in play, bring a decent short game, you'll score decent. Try to over power the layout, you might shave a stroke or two, but more likely you'll give them back or take a big number. My big loose swing make every round an adventure yet I find myself wanting to play it again and again. I'm not alone, Sunset Hills CC has one of the highest repeat play participation in our group's rotation.

Besides limited practice facilities, the facility lacks a full-size driving range instead having a short game area with hitting nets plus a few 150 yards limit driving range stalls, Sunset Hills CC has got all the other amenities and services. I see a lot of families memebers here.

There was a small , 3-mat irons-only driving range, putting green and chipping area. All of the staff was great and there was even complimentary donuts and coffee. Nice touch. It was great to see and play with Johnny and Ron again . I would love to play here again sometime.

From 3/25/24 Sunset Hills CC is a very well designed golf course that offers a variety of golf holes that are fun, interesting, and challenging. The course is built onto a scenic mountainside that features views of localized mountains and some local housing. This gorgeous course features large mature trees, strategic bunkering throughout, and several elevation changes. Sunset Hills CC places premium on accuracy off the tee as you are hitting into narrows fairways, and into small greens from the fairway or on par 3s. The course defends itself with its narrow or small landing areas, well positioned bunkers, medium length rough, and fast sloped greens. There were a few doglegs and some blind shots. The course is always a challenge and requires the execution of quality shots at all times, as being offline here introduces difficulty to achieve recovery. The course played its yardage, and fairways provided limited roll out on drives and approaches. The course is well maintained and in overall above-average condition. The course layout is rated a 4.5 out of 5, conditions are rated a 4.3 out of 5. I note the following: Tee Boxes: Level and green, no damage. Condition above average. Fairways: Green, lush, and defined from rough. Grabby with limited rollout. Condition above average. Greens: Green, medium-fast in speed, on the medium to firm side, and tricky to read at times. Speed about a 10.5. Conditions could be better, but still better than average. Sand: Maintained with excellent consistency. Condition excellent. Rough: Maintained and defined, about 3 – 5 inches. Condition excellent. Waste Areas: Maintained with overgrown nature that offered little to no recovery potential. Condition excellent. Driving Range: Non-existent. Practice Area: Chipping area and green present. Condition excellent. Speed of the practice putting green was consistent with course. POP: 4.75 hours – very limited wait was encountered, all good. We paced ourselves accordingly. Other: Noted a nice restaurant and golf shop, all appeared high grade. This is a great golf layout without a doubt, that requires a solid golf game to score. Played in The Moose event on 3.25.24 with fellow gker Mark, and Scott, and Rick and it was awesome. The weather was incredible. The course seemed to fill in a lot from all the rain we saw this year. Tee boxes had minimal divots between the markers. Fairways were like playing soft, again from all the rain. Rough was tournament length as usual. Wet & sticky. Absolutely brutal. Greens were almost perfect, which seems to be the norm around here. They were running quick but some of the holes were gettable. 8.5/10. I would take advantage of any opportunity to play this track. Another property we are very happy to have it on the moose roster!

Played 3/25 in the Gk-Moose event. First time venturing into this area of urban LA for golf. Sunset Hills exceeded my expectations. Classic 1966 course (Ted Robinson) fit into a smaller area of land. Houses on side of most holes but it doesn't feel tight. Mature trees in strategic spots make accuracy a factor. Small tees boxes that are in good condition. Well cared for and level. Fairways close cropped and tight lies with run out despite the rains the day before. Very few wet areas. Rough was cut recently and consistent. The bunkers in good shape with lighter brownish sand at the right depth. Only a few water hazards The greens how I primarily judge a course. Mostly smaller side not hugely undulated. In great condition and fast. High marks for the course in this area. As good as any I get to play on and challenging. The better player needs to be below the hole to score well. They require your full attention. Speed and line need to match in order to two putt consistently. Just as you'd expect at a private club. Rated 9+ Sectioned off clubhouse with large pool area with casual restaurant suitable for families where we enjoyed food after. With tennis and banquet facility adjacent too. Facility updated and modern worthy of membership considerations for area residents IMO. Easy to recommend and would return again. Another A1 event.

Played yesterday in the GK/Golf Moose private club event. Check in with Johnny and Ron was quick and easy. Nice CC atmosphere, pleasant weather, and great course conditions. Shotgun start at 10 am.

Greens: Fast and smooth. They held shots, but you had to have some spin and elevation on those approaches.

Fairways: Great runout and very pristine conditions.

Rough: It was thick in places, but not unmowed. I was lucky enough to not have too many penal lies. Mostly, my ball sat up. No bare areas that I saw.

Bunkers: All were great; raked smooth (I did have a small footprint that did not get raked on one hole) and groomed very nice.

Tees: The three sets of markers were, for the most part, placed onto one long box with a total of about 250 yards difference over 18 holes.

Overall condition of the course was great. Customer service was excellent, and the food was good. If you get a chance to play here, take it.

Played in the GM Private Course Event on 11/20. We snuck in between some pretty good rain for the area. Luckily the wind helped in drying enough out for it to be an enjoyable loop around the grounds. ... Continue »

Played in the GM Private Course Event on 11/20. We snuck in between some pretty good rain for the area. Luckily the wind helped in drying enough out for it to be an enjoyable loop around the grounds. Bring your A game tee to green, as this is 100% target golf. The greens gave us a chance on this day. Below the hole and par seem to be the norm if its playing firm.
