I’ve wanted to play Wood Ranch Golf Club for a long time and finally got a chance to on an invite. This is a tremendous layout that is in immaculate shape. The greens were lightning fast running around a 12. Plus they hold shots, are smooth and are very undulating – perfect condition. Rough was difficult to manage but not impossible. It was 2 to 3 inches and THICK/lush…I can only image how tough that rough is if they let it grow out any more. The fairways were near perfect despite being predominately dormant (although the dormant coloring was stunning contrasting with the lush green rough). Sand traps and tee boxes – great shape.

For a first time player here, I thought the course played extremely fair and challenging. It’s a beautiful course, fun layout and offers many scenic views. I love the way it sets up off the tee rewarding good shots and punishing bad ones without being too tight. If they let the rough grow out, wow this would be a very long course to deal with. We played the blue tees at 6550 yards and it was all I could handle as is. What makes the course very tough in my opinion is mostly the demand to hit precision irons…not only hitting greens, but hitting the right spots on greens. If you miss the greens you will almost certainly have a difficult pitch or chip as they are tightly surrounded by deep bunkers or thick rough. If you do hit the greens but find yourself behind the hole or on the wrong tier, you are begging for a two putt. I LOVE this kind of golf. Fair off the tee and demanding at the green.

If you ever get a chance to play Wood Ranch Golf Club, do it! If you are thinking of joining a Country Club and want a “players” type course, definitely consider this place.
