Played Wood Ranch Golf Club last week with rgm2525, mark_6m and WizzDum37. Group 1B of the Golf Moose / Greenskeeper.org Private Event. Teed off at 11:00am and finished under just before 4:00pm.

This was our 5th Private Course Event at Wood Ranch Golf Club. An outstanding track that once hosted the Senior Tour and LPGA Events. Every time I play here the conditions of the course exceed the previous excellent conditions of the course. It’s no surprise that all our Wood Ranch GC events sell out quickly attracting approximate 120 golfers each time.

Greens were running smooth, holding shots and medium/fast. Fairways were perfect lush bermunda. Rough was overseeded with annual rye was full and lush. Its easier to escape from than the bermunda rough played in the Late Spring / Summer. Bunkers were all in very good condition with quality sand. Tee boxes (we played the back tees gold) all lush and groomed.

Note about our Golf Moose / Greenskeeper.org Private Events, it’s great to see when I do the pairings how many more singles have now paired up twosomes, and twosomes pairing up as foursomes. Friendships are being built through the outings and that really makes me feel good.

Now that I’ve done events at all the clubs in Ventura County that welcome us. If I had the means and time, I would join Wood Ranch Golf Club or The Saticoy Club. Never miss an opportunity to play either of these courses.

My 3rd round in 8 days (man I love saying that), was at one of my new favorite courses in SoCal, Wood Ranch Golf Club. Played with rgm2525, GDR23 and mark_6m during a Golf Moose / GK Private Course event Monday 6/26.

Wood Ranch GC has always been in great shape every time I’ve played it, I’d say it’s in near immaculate shape right now. Greens were running smooth, little firm and medium/fast. Fairways were perfect lush bermunda. Rough mostly lush, cut a little lower than normal but still sticky and penalizing to have to play from. Bunkers were all in very good condition with quality sand. Tee boxes (we played the back tees gold) all lush and groomed.

This was our 4th Wood Ranch GC GM/GK event and with every play, despite how bad this track beats me up, I love the course more. It’s a flat out very fun demanding course. Check out my photos. Can’t recommend Wood Ranch Golf Club more to any outing organizer or those looking for membership.

Rode the gold tees this morning with buddies John, Ron and Mark as a part of the gk/golfmoose event teeing off just after 11am on a 12-15mph swirling wind day which is pretty typical for this area. Just a beautiful day for golf with a high around 80 degrees. My 3rd time playing here and the conditions were even better this time around. Practice facilities include a seperate chipping area above the 18th green, two very nicely manicured putting greens and a nice sized range on soft artificial mats. All staff encountered were friendly. No GPS on the carts but they were very comfortable. The course plays around homes on some holes that are not in play and a natural wash. Plenty of greenside bunkers, red penalty areas and nicely sloped firm greens to warrant a great challenging private course. Former lpga and senior tour stops. Fairways were in very nice shape, mainly lush and green with your ball sitting up nicely. Rated 8/10 Tees mainly level and lush and in good shape. Rated 7.5/10 Not in any bunkers but they looked well raked and maintained Greens were very soft on approach, quicker on chips and maybe rolling a 10.5 on putts. Very true rolls. Very tricky reads as there is more break around the hole than you think. Rated 8.5/10 Rough was lush, thick and juicy. Really in great shape. Rated 8.5/10. I would consider a membership here and recommend a chance to jump on it if you get an opportunity to play it.

I played yesterday, joined by Kassper7. This was my second time here and I was so happy for another chance at this beautiful, fun and challenging course. Thank you, Johnny! Customer service was great. When I called last week for a tee time they let me know that they greens were punched the prior week and may be a bit bumpy. I really appreciated the heads-up and they actually called me a few days later to make sure I knew. Upon arrival they were very welcoming of us as guests. Check in was easy, we got our cart, hit a few range balls and teed off a few minutes before our 12:15pm tee time. The course was in overall good shape. The fairways were green and lush, the bunkers had just the right amount of soft sand. The greens were not as bumpy as I was expecting and rolled a medium speed. Several greens had bad patchy spots around the edges but no putts were affected by them. None of our missed putts could be blamed on the conditions. The tee boxes were not so good. They were nicely level, but ranged from very chewed up to being in dire need of mowing. The rough was thick and deep in most areas, short and tight in others. There were many maintenance workers out on the course so I’m sure in a few days conditions will be even better. The layout is wonderful. There is a great variety of holes and a lot tougher than you would think at first glance. There are several forced carries –some at awkward lay-up distances (for me, anyway) and many, many bunkers guarding the greens. A couple of the par 3s are steeply uphill adding considerable yardage. Hole 13 is gorgeous par 3 over water that was an absolute score killer for me as 2 balls went for a swim. I will definitely use a lot more club next time! If you haven’t played here before, be sure to, should you have the chance. Guys, keep your shirttails tucked in. They are very strict about that! Highly recommended.

Enjoyed an excellent GK / GM Outing at WRGC with excellent playing partner Gary. I can best describe WRGC as a fun Players Course. WRGC is a very well-designed course that places premium on accuracy off the tee and into greens. The course features clear definition between its mid-sized fairways and rough areas, well placed bunkering on fairways and proximate to greens, along with strategic water hazards, and fast greens. The course is primarily flat except for 7, 8, 16, and 17 which do offer elevation changes from tee to green, along with some attractive views of localized housing and orchards. The course plays like a Championship Style layout. Wind speeds were calm, peaking at 10 -15 mph when gusting. The course seemed to play it's yardage for the most part. The course was well manicured and in above-average condition overall. The course layout is rated a 5 out of 5, conditions are rated a 4.5 out of 5. I note the following: Tee Boxes: Level and lush, no damage. Sometimes the grass may have been a bit longer, no more than ½” an inch too long. No effect in this regard. Above average condition. Fairways: Green at times tight. Above average condition. Greens: Green, fast in speed, with medium softness. No damage observed. Speed about an 11. Excellent condition. Sand: Well maintained and firm. Above average condition. Rough: rough was well defined from the fairway and green collars but not too overgrown, about 2 – 4 inches. Very grabby at times. Above average condition. Waste Areas: - Waste areas on various holes did not offer the opportunity of recovery due to their overgrown nature. Above average. Driving Range: The range is excellent but hitting from mats. You are on an elevated perch hitting into a grass valley with green markers at 100, 150, 200, 225, and 250 yards. Range ran out at about 300ish. Range balls were your typical yellow rangers, but in good condition. Practice Putting Greens: Both practice putting greens are ample and very well maintained. They seemed consistent with the speed of the course greens. POP: 4.25 hours – no wait was encountered on any hole. The WRGC facility included a bar / restaurant for members, snack bar at the turn, and a very nicely stocked pro shop. Service received was excellent. If looking to join a quality golf club with the emphasis on golf this is a really good one. Really enjoyed this course and certainly wish I could play it more often. If I lived a bit closer, this would be my club due to how much I enjoy the track. I certainly endorse playing this track if given the opportunity. Looking forward to my next visit here. Little over a week later after my last review and the golf course remains in excellent shape. It was a great Golf Moose / GK Private Course event out there on Monday. Wood Ranch Golf Club treated us wonderful and was happy to host us. They do a super job staging outings on a terrific beautiful layout (check out the photos). Played this time in the outing because I can’t get enough of this track. Super time with GKer Kyle (kmersola). It’s very fun and well maintained. Challenging fast greens with warm weather lush turf. Play it any chance you get or consider joining it if you’ll shopping for CC memberships.

Played today with Greenskeeper.Org & Golf Moose. Beautiful golf course that was in great shape. Not gonna lie, though, it definitely lived up to its reputation as a challenging track, and I was surprised to see such a difficult layout at a country club. Of all the Ted Robinson designs that I’ve played to date—which comprise many of my favorite courses—this is probably the most impressive from a difficulty standpoint, both logistically and psychologically. Would definitely play it again, though. As for conditions, everything was pretty exceptional, with the highlight being the greens. They were perfect: zero pre-existing ball marks, smooth, neither too slow nor too fast. LOTS of undulation, with many featuring multiple tiers. Fairways and rough were lush. A little brown/dead in spots, and bare/thin here and there, but not enough to be worth accounting for in my ratings. Tee boxes were exceptionally lush, to the point where they were “spongy,” i.e., grass doesn’t appear long, but 25% of the tee is below the top of the surface when you get it inserted into the soil. I heard this had to do with the type of grass being used, but whatever the cause, it made it pretty to look at, but a bit of an unusual surface to play from. All in all, a wonderful course that is certainly worth playing if you get the chance.

Rode the blues today 5/16/22 as a part of the GK/Golfmoose outing. Teed off at 11am as a shotgun format. We had beautiful low 80s weather with a swirling one to two club wind. 2nd time here. Love the back nine here. Nice variety here with some dogleg left and rights. Some elevated tees, water features and some nice strategic bunkering. Native areas more predominant on the front nine but each hole gives you ample room but spray to much here and it's a lost ball Course conditions were good with tighter semi lush Fairways that had some nice roll to them. Rated 7.5/10 Tees were quite lush, thick and in beautiful shape. Rated 8/10. Greens were very soft on high approaches with irons and rolling semi quick on putts. Would say maybe a 10.5 on the stimp. Green rating 8/10 Was in 2 greenside bunkers on 7 and 17 that were raked and in good shape with ample sand. Rated 7.5/10 Rough was cut down around 2 inches and was semi lush. Rated 7.5/10. Well run event on a fun course with great weather and company. Would recommend a membership here if your thinking of joining.

Wood Ranch GC has become my second favorite course to play in Ventura County only behind The Saticoy Club. This is such a FUN challenging beautiful Ted Robinson design. It’s in fantastic shape right now. Everyone playing in the coming Golf Moose/GK Private Course Outing Monday 5/16 is going to love it. Greens running fast and smooth. Fairways lush full coverage bermada turf with a pretty cross cut. Rough is a mix of cut low bermuda and kikuyu lush and cut low (however is might be higher come Monday given they are doing their Founder Cup qualifiers Saturday/Sunday before). Tee boxes level lush in great shape. Bunkers in good shape with quality sand. Awesome practice putting green and range. This is course is a must play. Check out the photos I just posted. Highly Recommended.
