Joined the GK/GM/Vivid Golf event and played with Matt and Rich. Fun day.


As we arrived at the parking lot, staff member came up to take our bags in.
Check in was super easy with Gary helping us get started. And off to practice area. Driving range had plenty of stalls. Hitting off mats with shiny range balls (looks pretty new :) 2 practice putting green was sanded but rolled really nice and fast.

Shotgun started on time and we finished just under 5 hours.

Tee boxes, fairways all good. lush and easy to hit off. got into a few bunkers and plenty of sand to splash out of. no complaints here.
Greens were similar to practice greens- fast and firm and quite enjoyable and unforgiving (in a good way)

Love this course. Design and conditions are top notch. Staff was super helpful. Enjoyed our day out at WR. Thanks to our playing partners for the tips provided in playing WR, to the GK gang and WR staff for making this happen. Until next time!

Played with GKers rgm2525, itslikeimsayin and antmayes on Monday 4/21 at Wood Ranch Golf Club. It was our 67th Private Course event and our 9th here. It’s always special having our events at Wood Ranch GC beyond what a fantastic golfing experience it is because it was the first course to welcome our group to play in 2021.

Once again, Wood Ranch Golf Club demonstrated Monday why our players love taking on this track with exceptional playing conditions, event facilities and great service. From an organizer’s standpoint, it’s one of my favorite staging areas providing a large driving range, two practice putting greens, snack bar, clubhouse, parking lot and both the 1st and 10th tees near each other. It’s easy to keep track of your group as well as launch large shotgun events. The layout is always a challenge with many exciting holes and scenic elevated tee boxes. Wood Ranch Golf Club has one of our highest return event participation rates. As far as membership, having now played Wood Ranch Golf Club over 10 times, I could never get bored of this layout. It’s a blast to play with challenges throughout. Hole #13, the "Island Hole" and an incredible Par 3 perfect for a Closest To The Pin.

Played in the Golf Moose/Vivid Golf event on Monday, April 21, riding with Gary, Mark and Kyle. Perfect day and a great foursome. Really nice facilities and a well organized event. The snack bar at the clubhouse was open for us as was the pro shop. I wandered through the bar and dining room looking how to get to the course and did not see any other activity (nice social areas though).

I liked the course a lot. The greens were very tough. Even the greens that did not have big slopes had subtle breaks that tested reading ability. There were some with great challenges or entertainment value depending on whether you were the one that had to make that downhill putt or hit the short-sided chip. Quite quick. The verticut was evident but I did not see any effect on putts. They were also fairly firm even with the work on them.

I liked the fairways of dormant Bermuda. They are similar to Skylinks when it opened up after its remodel. Fairly tight but the still a good hitting surface. They had a nice runout also although you had to be careful not to run into trouble in spots. The rough was cut down around the landing areas in most spots and thicker around greens or off to the side. I had trouble with the beach sand in the bunkers but they were in good shape. The fairway bunkers had firmer surfaces in the ones I was in.

The highlight for me was the layout. A lot of interesting holes. Good par 3s and varying length on the par fives. The back nine was fun especially the last three holes. The view from the 16th tee was spectacular. Great tough green on the 18th.

I would jump at the chance to play here again.

Played here yesterday in group 1B of the Vivid Golf event operated by GK. The addition of a putting contest before play officially started was really fun, despite my two pretty pathetic attempts. The event was very well organized and started right on time. Beautiful day in a fun group with Johnny, Ron, and Anthony.

Conditions are very nice. The greens had been verticut and lightly sanded that morning, but I don't think it affected putts at all. Greens rolled very true and fast. They were on the firmer side although well-struck shots would stick and hold. Fairways had good coverage and provided tight lies. Personally, I'd prefer a little lusher turf on the fairways. The rough was deeper but not too penal. Blue tee boxes were all good. I was in a lot of bunkers and they were all very nice.

This was my second time playing here, and I gained a deeper appreciation for the course this time. This is a demanding test with numerous water features, some good risk/reward holes, and significant slope on many greens. While mostly a residential course (although the homes are set back quite a bit), there are a few holes on the back nine that touch the native hillsides, and that's where the course shines brightest, imo. Definitely recommended if you get a chance to play here.

Rode the blues this morning 4/21/25 joined by Mark, Kyle and Bob in 4 hrs 55 minutes under blue skies, maybe a 10 mph breeze around 75 degrees..a perfect weather day. Great group of gents to play with. Wood Ranch has two nice putting greens, a seperate chipping/bunker complex above the 18th green and a nice downhill valley range with targets that was on artificial turf today. I have played here around 5 or 6 times and the conditions have always impressed and were no different today. Greens looked like they had a minor slit done weeks ago but they did not effect putting at all. They also had a minor top dressing of grainy sand. The greens were pure, quick and rolling great. Maybe a 12 on the stimp. Holding approach shots nicely that had higher trajectory or had spin. If you short sided yourself chipping you paid the price with the speed of the greens. Rated 9/10. Fairways were in nice shape thinner but padded lush grass in most parts of the fairways. Rated 8/10. Was in one greenside bunker on hole 10 that had perfect beach sand to splash out of. Rated 8.5/10. Tees were in good shape with a couple of the blue tee boxes sloped. Rated 7.5/10. Rough was juicy and healthy lining the fairways but manageable. Rated 8/10. One of the better back nines in the county. Highly recommended.

Wood Ranch is always so lovely and consistent in quality!


Played WRGC on a beautiful Monday at the GM Event with Johnny, Ron, and Andrew. It was an amazing time with wind speeds around 10 - 20 mph. Pace of play was around 5 hours. I note the following conditions:


Tee Boxes: Level and green, no damage. Condition excellent.


Fairways: Green, lush, and defined from rough. Condition excellent.


Greens: Green, medium-fast in speed, with softness. Speed about a 10.5 in speed but tricky with tough pin placements. Condition excellent.


Sand: very well maintained, and heavy. Condition excellent.


Rough: very well maintained and defined, about 3 – 5 inches. Condition excellent.


Water Hazards: Very scenic on Holes 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 11, 13, and 18. Condition excellent.


Waste Areas: Waste areas were maintained with manicured nature that offered little to no recovery potential. Condition excellent.


Loved the Wood Ranch experience once again! This is a Grade A track that thrives in quality and consistency. One of the best courses in Ventura County and all of SoCal! Looking forward to the next opportunity to play here!

Rode the blues today with buddies Ron, Mark and Mack under sunny skies temps in the mid 70s and about a club wind all day..pretty much perfect conditions. Pop was 4 hrs 30 minutes catching the group ahead of us on 13 tee with just minimal waiting the rest of the day. Wood Ranch has a separate chipping area above and to the right of the 18th green, two nice speedy putting greens and a elevated range hitting into a grass valley off of mats. Friendly staff inside the proshop. The course is in great shape. Greens running close to an 11 on the stimp with some pretty pure rolls. Holding irons very nicely and if you are above the hole chipping or putting you have your hands full. Most greens have severe slope and are well guarded by strategic greenside bunkering. Rated 8.5/10 Fairways were lush tightly padded which gave extra roll but needed to be compressed just right. Rated 8/10 Tees nice and lush, most level. Rated 8/10 Greenside rough very thick and grabby and can be tough to negotiate. Fairway rough lush, uniform and not as thick as the greenside rough but in very good shape. Rated 8.5/10 Was in 2 greenside bunkers that looked crusty on top but played beautiful with enough sand underneath. The Fairway bunker I was in had nice compact sand to hit off of. 135 slope is accurate with the sloped greens, strategic bunkering, penalty areas and usual afternoon wind. Very lucky to have this course 5 minutes from my place. Highly recommended.

Enjoyed another wonderful GK / GM Outing at WRGC. WRGC is a fun Players Course but on this day it was tough test of golf with wind speeds that exceeded 20 mph at times. WRGC is a very well-designed course that places premium on accuracy off the tee and into greens. The course features clear definition between its mid-sized fairways and rough areas, well placed bunkering on fairways and proximate to greens, along with strategic water hazards on a couple of holes, and normally with fast greens, but not on this day, as greens were much slower than normal which actually played to the courses difficulty.

The course is primarily flat except for 7, 8, 16, and 17 which have elevation changes from tee to green, along with some attractive views of localized orchards. The course plays like a Championship Style layout. The course seemed to play much longer that it's yardage due to the wind. The course was in above-average condition overall. The course layout is rated a 5 out of 5, conditions are rated a 4.2 out of 5. I note the following:

Tee Boxes: Level and lush, no damage. Above average condition.

Fairways: Green at times tight. Above average condition.

Greens: Green, slow in speed, with medium softness. No damage observed. Speed about a 9.5 - 10 in speed. Above average condition but lack of speed was odd for WRGC.

Sand: Well maintained and firm. Above average condition.

Rough: rough was well defined from the fairway and green collars but not too overgrown, about 2 – 4 inches. Very grabby at times. Above average condition.

Waste Areas: - Waste areas on various holes did not offer the opportunity of recovery due to their overgrown nature. Above average.

Driving Range: The range is always excellent but hitting from mats. You are on an elevated perch hitting into a grass valley with green markers at 100, 150, 200, 225, and 250 yards. Range ran out at about 300ish. Range balls were your typical yellow rangers, but in good condition.

Practice Putting Greens: Both practice putting greens are ample and very well maintained. They seemed inconsistent with the speed of the course greens on this day, but representative of the speed I have encountered in the past when playing here, which is about an 11.5ish.

POP: 4.75 hours – no wait was encountered on any hole.

The WRGC facility included a nice snack bar at the turn, and a very nicely stocked pro shop. Service received was excellent.

Really enjoyed this course and certainly wish I could play it more often. If looking to join a quality golf club with the emphasis on golf this is a really good one.

Rode the blues this morning 4/8/24 at the GK/Golfmoose event with John, Mark and Marc. We really enjoyed our round lots of laughs and great shots. We had a consistent 15-18mph swirling wind which is common for afternoon golf in Simi Valley. Beautiful temps today in the mid 70s.

My 4th time here and conditions were very good with ample semi-lush fairways[8/10], nice level teeing grounds with only some divot damage on the par 3s[7.5/10], very thick and juicy lush rough[8.5/10], medium paced greens that were semi receptive and rolled slower than our group expected[7.5/10]. Was in 2 greenside bunkers and two Fairway bunkers that had ample grainy sand[7/10].

Fairly tough layout 135 slope with some narrow undulating greens, many red staked penalty areas and some afternoon wind to negotiate. To me I love the back nine here especially holes 10,11, 15,16 and 18.

Highly recommended!
