Played on Friday 9/9 after looking at the maintenance on several courses nearby. Although they aren't overseeding fairways this fall, what they are doing is aerating and laying seed. The fairways were extremely wet, no standing water, although there were a few places that tire tracks from their maintenance vehicles (not golf carts) could be found. Only a couple holes were cart path only.

The greens have recovered nicely from the work done 8-9 days earlier. Very full, however I don't think they are mowing/rolling them like normal. Putts were really slow and it felt like the grass was preventing some breaks.

Bunker sand was heavy, probably from the amount of water they are putting down to get the new seed to take. Again, no standing water here either, the bottoms of the traps were harder to get out of. Just under the thin dry crust was dark wet sand. (could just be my own skill here)

All in all, I like Siena and I think the course will be in much better shape in about 2 weeks when the fairways have recovered a bit. The price was a little high for yesterday's conditions.

Played on Father's Day with a tee time just before 8. We paid $38 local rate, which is about the same around town right now. I expected a slower pace and was not disappointed, finishing just under 5 hours, waiting on almost every shot. The marshal was around a few times, letting us know everyone was where they were suppose to be.

Customer service was pretty good. I was the last to check in so they took my clubs from the bag drop out to our carts at the range, which is a short walk from the pro shop. Easy check-in, friendly starter, and drink cart was around 3 times. Water coolers on the course and 2 "comfort stations" on both 9s.

The reviews by Itslikeimsayin and sixpez were spot on. Lush fairways with only a few thin areas, mostly at the top of run off areas. Rough varied from 1 to about 3 inches. Bunkers were decent, some rocks, and varied from thin to good. Greens were fantastic. Smooth, receptive and medium speed. They looked a lot faster than they were, causing some downhill putts to be left very short. Tee boxes were the only complaint. They had recently been aerated and some were heavily watered, so much there was was "casual water" and some "splat" tee shots.

This is the 1st time I've played here and enjoyed it. It runs through a residential area where some houses are in play. Nice variety of holes and can be challenging. This course joins the rotation with the right price.

Played here the afternoon of Monday, 6/13 with sixpez. Wow, what a surprise! For some reason I didn't expect much more than a middle-of-the-road course here, but I absolutely loved it. Primo conditions definitely didn't hurt, either. These are some of the deepest green fairways and rough I've seen outside of Rams Hill or (visiting, not playing) Bighorn in the last couple years. Very lush! Greens were good, too. Smooth, somewhat firm and running about medium speed. Tee boxes great. Bunkers were good. Layout wise, there's a good variety of holes, several of which incorporate desert elements. Highly recommended!

This was our fourth round of the trip, played Monday afternoon. This was another awesome GK Plays prize certificate we used for a free twosome. Originally we had a 1:39 tee time, but when we played the extra nine at Badlands we had to call over and push it back. They said to just come on out and it was pretty open all afternoon. We teed off around 2:00 and joined another single. We played through one slower group and got caught behind another for the whole back nine, but the pace was still good at under 4 hours. Siena was in the best shape of all six courses we played on this trip. It was gorgeous out here from tee to green. The grass is a deep green with lush coverage throughout. Tee boxes, fairways and rough all looked and played great. Bunkers again not great as is the epidemic in Vegas, but not as bad as some of the other courses. The greens were firm, yet receptive and rolling smooth at medium speeds. I didn't have the highest expectations coming in based on mixed GK reviews and the prevailing perception that Arroyo is the better of these two sister courses. We were very pleasantly surprised by Siena. Not only were the conditions fantastic, but the layout was very fun and it's very nicely presented aesthetically. It's a pretty course. Not overly challenging, but more than enough to keep you entertained with a good diversity in hole designs. It's probably not top-shelf Vegas golf, but it's a well above average mid-level course that is highly underrated in my opinion. One major thing to note is the amount of rabbits on this course. Our playing partner at Arroyo on Sunday made mention of the rabbit overpopulation. We saw a lot of rabbits over at Badlands and plenty at Arroyo, as well, but they have absolutely taken over Siena. We saw hundreds over the course of our round. For the most part, they were hanging around the edges of the course and didn't seem to be doing much damage to the fairways or greens. Didn't notice as many droppings here as on Badlands, but the bunny population is definitely an issue. They're cute, but I can see this being a big problem if it's not gotten under control.

Well, it is always interesting to review LV courses this time of year since they are just coming out of overseeding. But frankly Siena is terrible except for the greens.

The greens were OK, pretty smooth but quite slow. And for as much rain as LV has had lately, the greens were still quite firm.
Fairways have been recently aerated. There are plenty of punch holes and dirt spots with occasional tufts of grass. Can only be played under lift, clean and place.
Likewise for the rough. Many punch holes and dirt areas with some clumps of grass. Again, not realistic to try to play the ball down in either the fairway or the rough.

And the bunkers are a disaster. Sand? is packed down and there is no indication that they have been raked in quite some time. I was told that the week before all the bunkers were being played as GUR. They still need to be played that way.
Tees are poor, not much grass and some were uneven.

This course needs to be avoided for at least 2-4 weeks, especially since the green fee is the full player card rate of $55.

Greens are pure sand typically very thin. The design on this course is great. Deep bunkers are the main design of this course so stay out!! Great customer service is always on display at this course Go and Enjoy one of Vegas finest.

Fairways and rough actually have grass. But they are still quite soft and the grass is clumpy. Often mudballs. Bunkers are good, but some have soft sand and others are very firm.

Greens are very good. Pretty firm, but will leave ball marks. Quite smooth and medium quick, probably around 10. Greens are quite large, but none of the mounding and tiering you see on some courses. You feel you can get chips and long putts somewhere near the hole.

This is just a hard course to play well. Bunkers are everywhere and all are deep. Dormant bermuda around each bunker, so any shots rolling toward the bunkers are collected. Most fairways have bunkers on each side, so no bail out.

Most of the greens are elevated. Best advice is to take an extra club and whack it to the back of the green. A long downhill putt is still better than playing out of the bunkers.

Pace of play was slower than it could have been. Marshal was pretty much nonexistent -- the one time we saw him he did not help. Beverage service was sporadic -- only once each nine.

Carts have decent GPS and coolers with ice. Wet towels are provided and the range balls are included. Grass range and good sized putting green.

Overall, this is a nice facility with a well stocked pro shop and a nice restaurant. Pleasant place to play -- just a challenge to shoot a good score. Green fee was $55 with player card.

Good news: all of the holes are open with no cart restrictions and greens are pretty good. Bunkers have sand and can be played from.
Bad news: everything else.

Greens are smooth and medium speed. But very firm -- no need to fix ball marks because you won't make one.
Bunkers are deep as ever, but plenty of sand but firm so no plugging.

Fairways and rough are not very good. While playable, the grass is sporadic. You have to bump the ball often to get it off a bare spot and onto some grass. This has been a problem at Siena for at least a year (its sister course Red Rock Arroyo does not have this problem).

Tee selection -- pretty long from the blacks but if you hit it 220 you will be short of the bunkers in the left and right rough. But second shots are long and most of the greens are elevated. If you play the blues, course is shorter but bunkers come into play off the tee as does the cross desert area on a few holes.

Range is good (free range balls) and practice putting green is also OK. Cart service regular and polite. Pro shop is fine, restaurant is fine, bag service is passable.
Bunkers are deep and surrounded by dormant Bermuda so any shots slightly off line collect into the bunkers.
Pace of play is usually quite good. Today we ran into a shot gun start on the back nine, so things slowed down quite a bit. Hour and half on front, two and half on back.

My only complaint is the same that I have had for some time -- they need to grow some grass on the fairways and in the rough. Local rate is $50 which is just too high for the conditions of the fairways and rough.

Siena is finally in decent shape. Despite 5 holes being cart path only, the course is finally playable. The greens are really good and medium fast.
The fairways and rough have a lot of grass, but also have a quite a few bare spots and the rough is uneven in length.
Bunkers are not good, very firm in most spots. A lot of water being put on the course, so roll is minimal and the ball picks up mud quite often.
But after many weeks of attempted overseeding, it is nice to see Siena as least be good enough for a pleasant round of golf.
Local rate of $55 is about right.
