First off Friday morning 2/1 on a cold morning with mpisarski01 and rob1563. Fortunately no frost delay so we flew around in just under 3 hours. Good times and the golf course was in very good shape. A different look for me as the greens were overseeded with bent grass, green surrounds/tee boxes with rye grass and the paspalum fairways sprayed green. Keep in mind the entire golf course, greens included, is a paspalum base so the majority of the time when you play this course it’s going to be more firm. I was impressed how the overseeding went as it made the golf course look attractive and play nice. I was wondering why for the first time I saw some small indent ball marks on the greens (normally you can hardly find any) but that’s because its bent grass right now rather than paspalum this time of year. Greens still rolled well and a pleasure to play. Regarding the fairways, good lies and full coverage. Some thin spots but overall played fine. Pitching around the green was very nice due to the rye grass. The best part of the golf course conditions and normally with desert courses as well as golf courses I play in Southern California the worst part, was the sand traps. They had excellent sand and were well groomed. As always if you want to have a good round of golf at this course you need to avoid the ditch on the right at all times. I noticed it was much cleaner of debris than I had seen in the past. We saw some small equipment and ground crews doing what appeared to be finishing touches on clearing out the wash. However you want to avoid missing your shots right even more because of the dormant paspalum the ball quite often for us would roll all the way down into the wash.

For the price to play, especially during the Vegas peak season this place is a steal.

Fittingly, JohnnyGK, Matt and I started our Friday 2/1 morning round at The Club at Sunrise, where we watched the sunrise from their patio. 1st off the 10th tee right at 7am, we set a pace under 3:30 and finished a hole ahead of the 3some behind us.

Course was in great shape. The paspalum grass has maintained it's green during the winter. Good tee boxes. Fairways were green and nicely covered, no thin or bare areas. The rough is dormant bermuda and anything over the edge of the wash has a 93% chance of running all the way down into the water. Bunkers were incredible, a little heavy, like wet beach sand, but has been great in the past as it dries out. The greens are the signature of this course. Some ball marks as the grass is slow to grow this time of year, but relatively smooth and medium fast.

Another fun Vegas course but you definitely need a right to left or straight ball flight unless you're hitting butter cut fades all day, as the right side is dead. They have some great deals right now, with a $10 food voucher included.

Had some time to kill this morning so we decided to play DA CLUB. I have played here a handful of times now and not much has changed over time. The course is in great shape as usual and it looks like they have been keeping it up despite the cold weather. Tee to green everything was uniformly cut and had full coverage turf. I highly suggest this course especially for the price.

Beautiful day for golf- sunny skies, no wind and temps were at mid to high 60s. We couldn’t ask for a better day on a midwinter outing.

The course is located in the east most part of Las Vegas, just on the other side of Royal Links Golf Club. Not exactly Summerlin like of a town but they have golf courses here. They’ve built this course alongside a wash or river, but I doubt the water is clean. There were no trees in play and a little lake on the front nine. The staff here were all very nice and accommodating, kind and helpful.

What they’ve done to the course’s grass: it was sprayed with some type of color green that made it looked good against some dormant grass areas that surrounds the fairways, greens and teeing grounds. The rich deep green color looks good in contrast, but the green coloring will rub onto the ball.

As far as the course played, the fairways had lots of roll as it was or we think it was almost dried out. The divots from our irons on fairways were a telltale as the pieces crumbles to dust with our shots! (lol)

The greens were hard and not as easy to hold on longer approaches, but okay with the high soft shots.

Teeing grounds were good though some spots were hard to place a tee on. Dry? …maybe! :)

The bunkers were hard pan underneath a quarter inch sand layer with the same color. The sand quality varies from fine sand in one bunker and more grainy type on another. Needless to say the consistency isn’t there so after two sand shots from greenside bunkers and one fairway bunker, I really made an effort not to get into anymore of them.

No bev cart here that day, but the bar’s tab for a six-pack of beers to take on the course was only $25. We thought that was a good deal in Vegas. Also, GolfNow charged each of us $45.49 a player. A good rate… and btw, it’s also easy to score well here as long as you are careful not to dunk shots in the river or wash or whatever it is. …and if I did, I wouldn’t retrieve it. Who knows what’s in that water??
All in all it was an okay experience.

Played on Friday, 9/7, with John_T. We were looking for a round while most courses are closed for re-seeding and found plenty open times at Sunrise.

Conditions were excellent tee to green. Relatively flat and damage free tee boxes. Rough was varied from about 1 inch to over 3 in some areas. Bunkers had some of the best sand in the valley and easy to hit out. Fairways were lush, with some wet, soggy areas. The greens! Oh my gawd, the greens. Simply phenomenal. Absolutely no sign of aerating 2 weeks ago. Smooth as glass, very little amount of ball marks, and running medium speed but sped up as the day warmed. Just incredible conditions for the end of summer in Vegas.

Only complaint: they started us on 10, behind a Men's group scramble when the front 9 looked empty. We caught them in a few holes and slowed to a 2:15ish time. Men's group only played 9 and we played the front in a casual 1:30.

Here's the incredible part: we paid $29 local rate, which included $10 credit in the Winterwood Grille. I only wish it wasn't such a difficult drive for me from the far Northwest. Sunrise is being added to the rotation.

Played on 6/30/18. I have played this course before the renovation, and compared to now, all I can say is WOW. Before, the course was very rough, and don't even mention the "ditch" on the back side. Even though the layout is almost identical, there seems to be more room than before. Lots of subtle changes that made for a pleasant surprise. I had the misfortune of playing shortly after the greens were punched (that's what I get for not checking before booking!). Greens were long and furry, but still rolled fairly well. Rest of the course was almost pristine. If you hit the ball left to right, its not quite as punitive as before. Sure, there are nicer courses in the area, but you really get some bang for your buck on this one. Will play there again sooner than later, just have to wait until the temp drops below 110 again...

Played on Friday, 6/15, with JohnnyGK. After a quick warm up, we passed a slow 2some at 3, doubled back to play 3 after the 9th, and picked up a single on 12. Finished in 3 1/2 hours. Course was in pretty good shape. Tee boxes were mostly level, with little amount of damage. Fairways were in good shape, outside of patch work being done on 4. Rough was minimum, which is bad if you start rolling towards the ditch, since it will not hold it up. Bunkers were great. Some of the better sand in the valley, no stones, slightly heavy and easy to hit out. The greens are the crown jewel of this course. Absolutely spectacular. Ultra smooth, little or no ball marks, and a nice consistent medium/fast pace throughout the course. Overall, it's a fun course to play. Lots of risk/reward holes, with some short par 4s on the front 9 and some longer par 5s on the back. While not a destination course, worth a trip to play, especially in the afternoon when you can fly around the course. Greens were just punched on the 20th and 21st, so wait a few weeks.

Needed a quick round on Friday 6/15 afternoon before our GK Plays outing on Saturday. First place I thought of was The Club at Sunrise. It delivered. Great time with GK’er Rob1563 as always. Plus the greens were in great shape. Blows me away that one of the most affordable golf courses in Las Vegas has greens that rival the highest end courses in the region I’ve played. One of the best things about the greens is although they are not fast, they are perfectly consistent from green to green. You will be dialing in your stroke in no time. This week they will be doing their heavy punch/sanding on 6/20 & 6/21 so try to get your round in before that. Give it a couple weeks to heal. The rest of the golf course is mostly lush with some thin and bare areas present on the fairways. Try to avoid hitting the ball right at all times or face the punishment of a blind recovery shot out of the rough in the flood wash. That is if your ball does not roll to the bottom of the wash then it’s “sayonara”. If you miss the ball left, as long as you keep it low and don’t have an extreme miss left, it will be in bounds and you can easily recover back in play. The bunkers had good quality sand and I’m glad to report they now have ranks in the bunkers instead of a rake attached to your golf cart. Before my round I grabbed a bite to eat in the clubhouse. Very affordable and enjoyed the hot dog. Recommend playing after the greens heal from aeration. Should be a solid affordable July-August option.

Played here over the course of 2 days on 5/1-2 due to thunderstorms. I started playing with a couple friends visiting from Kentucky on Tuesday at 2PM playing 7 holes before lightning finally hit the course and chased us off. We attempted to play again and got to the 11th hole before another lightning strike in the houses next to the green finally ended our round. I came back the next evening around 530PM and completed my final seven holes. Final total POP was about 3:10. Troy in the office was gracious enough to comp my evening round and even scrambled to pull a fresh cart out of the barn for me. AWESOME service considering I offered my raincheck for the round which he returned and welcomed me back if I needed a filler round the next time I was out. He wished me well on my course ventures and sent me on my way. Now for the course. I kept hearing from other courses that the greens here are very good. I would have to say that they were by far the easiest greens to read and putt during my trip. They were slightly on the hairy side and not cut super short making putts read and roll true. No complaints here and gave me much needed practice getting ready for my other rounds. The fairways had good turf coverage with some patchy areas in the rough and out towards the wash. I didn't get into the wash so I didn't have to deal with any mush and the rest of the fairways played firm with a decent roll. Tee boxes had good coverage and were easy to tee off of. Overall a great value for the Vegas area during peak season. The value probably drops as the heat drops prices at other area courses but still a good quality public option compared to others in the area.
