I played here last Friday, 9-22-17. The service and accommodations here are very good. We had 16 players, so we got a group rate of $35, plus they gave us a $10 food voucher. It also included range balls. The conditions where really good , we had so perfect golf weather too (68* at 8 AM.) The tee boxes are flat and level, with minimal to no divot damage.
The fairways are firm and well groomed. You will have good lies throughout the course.
The rough was a bit long, about 3" along the banks of the water channel, so balls will not roll into the channel, the caveat is, if you don't see your ball land, it is VERY difficult to find. The rough opposite the water channel was at a good playable length, 1 1/2" -2". The bunkers are well placed throughout the course, if you hit too long, you may be in a bunker, if you hit too wide , left or right of the green, you may be in a bunker. The greens roll true, but a bit slow to what I am us to, but after a couple of holes, I adjusted. This is a links style course, so a few of the players where commenting, "where are the trees" LoL, I enjoyed this course. It is a strategic course, because of the design.

Wanted to play an early morning round in Vegas before work today but didn't want to spend a fortune on out of town rates, so got a good GolfNow deal for The Club at Sunrise at 6:30am for $58. I had read some reviews from before and my feelings are now mixed after having played 18 here.

Someone earlier wrote that this place was a little bit like River View in Santa Ana but without the elevations (and the tent communities). I have zero love for River View at all, but that assessment is not too far off base when it comes to this layout, however it doesn't have all the funky river crossings and bizarre angles that River View does. The Club at Sunrise is the DirecTV Rob Lowe version of River View.

One thing to mention first - the wind absolutely howls through this place. It really was a bit off-putting to hit drives into 40-50 mph winds right in your face. Not too much fun.

I was expecting nice conditions based on the previous reviews, and they weren't too far off, but there were definitely a good number of GUR areas in the fairways and plenty of soggy, poor draining bits. Also fair to say that where the fairways were nice, they were really nice. The greens were also the best part of the course - medium speed at best, but very nice coverage and roll and held shots very well. Not too many crazy breaks either but a few here and there.

Sand was actually pretty nice in the bunkers that I found, and the tee boxes were all level and in good shape (played the black tees at 6500 yards). The rough? Well, it's really crazy when your shot drifts right into the lower lying areas near the wash and gets absolutely consumed by this thick grass. Almost impossible to find your ball again.

This course just doesn't fit my eye very well as I'm more or less a fade hitter and everything to the right here is trouble. If you draw the ball, this is the place for you. And big ups to the maintenance guys on #9 who couldn't be bothered to move their equipment when it was right in line with my chip onto the green so I sailed it.

So yeah, not the worst course I've ever played by any means, but the layout is somewhat repetitive and always having to favor one direction is a pain, and of course there are just so many better options in the Vegas area. However, the price is good and it's just about worth that if you can't get a decent time or rate elsewhere.

Played with the Gurus on 8-8-17. It’s a nice no-frills course that was quite fun to play. The fairways and tees were all in great shape as were the greens, though they were slow. I was in a couple of bunkers and the sand was clean and white but really coarse. It felt kind of odd. I didn’t like having to carry the rake from the cart to the bunkers, though. I was too hot and tired for that much extra work. The ditch on the right side of all holes was pretty nasty if you went in. The rough was long enough to swallow the balls and with all the other debris down there it was just good motivation to try harder to hit straight!

Customer service was great. Everyone was very friendly at check in and they later came around the course offering us water and ice pops. Nice touch. This is a good course for a casual or ‘warm up’ round. I would consider playing it again when in the area.

Another Guru outing review. This is a very straightforward course that is not as easy as it appears to be. The wash is a place you do NOT want to end up for many reasons. The greens were long and slow due to the summer heat. The fairways and rough are great to hit from and the sand was pretty good.

The course layout itself was a bit repetitive and can be rather punitive in the afternoon wind (see 15-30 mph gusts out of nowhere taking the ball where it was not intended to go). Fairways are not really wide enough for afternoon (read: high) winds unless you are really in control of your ball flight. That said, the course itself is a fun layout and definitely would be worth another shot. I would love to get out earlier in the day with minimal wind and faster greens.

I joined up with the GK Gurus for the evening round at Sunrise. We had fun and got around just before dark. Thanks to the course for inviting us out.

As others have noted, the course was in good overall condition. The tee boxes, fairways and rough were all in good condition. The greens were in nice shape, but the grass left a bit shaggy to combat the heat. Putts were very, very slow. I wasn't in any bunkers, so I never had to forget to bring the rake from the cart! : )

Okay course. Layout is very repetitive with the houses left and wash right on pretty much every hole. Wash was a bit nasty with some recent flooding, so do everything you can to avoid hitting down there.

Joined the Gurus for a warm round at Sunrise. This course is well maintained for the heat of the summer. We were the only people on the course so we flew through at our own pace. Unfortunate I didnt make it past hole 9 due to the long day of driving and my first round of golf.

One thing I found out about the course was that there is always a ditch in play. I would compare this to a well maintained version of River view with less elevation changes. The rough that protects the wash is very thick and stops and ball from rolling off the fairway and into the wash itself. Sadly there was a massive flood the week before and the smell coming from the wash was hard to bare when down wind from it.

In all its a fun course for the price.

Played out at The Club at Sunrise with 7 other fellow GK Gurus Tuesday afternoon. Teed it up around 4:45, heat of the day, but a breeze picked up on the back nine and as the sunset it helped lesson the heat considerably. We played in about 3 hours.

This was my third round here, first time in the heat of summer, and understandably, the typically awesome greens were being keep shaggy to fend off the heat. The greens looked very healthy and lush so I’m sure if they cut and rolled them, they would be pure. Fairways were improved since the last time I played a couple months ago, still some brown areas, and occasional thin areas but overall more lush and pleasure to play from. Bunkers were improved as they were better manicured with quality sand. Tee boxes about the same, lush and level. The Club at Sunrise was in good shape and had the greens been cut and rolled, would have been great shape.

As kviser mentioned, when you play this course you have to avoid the right side, the wash, in other words what many call the ditch. Balls missing the fairways to the right will almost always end up in it. And once in it, good luck hitting it, that is if you even find it. The rough is long and the ball will sit down. It’s going to be an awkward stance as well as with not a clear look at the green. And on the opposite side, you can’t bail out left due to homes and gravel. You got to be straight off the tee here, it’s the golf course’s biggest defense. I lost around 6 golf balls Thursday missing right. Fortunately I did not put any shots in the homes left.

They have nice small clubhouse, friendly service, affordable green fees, normally pure greens and always a fast pace of play. I think the course would be fun to play anytime but as a early morning or late afternoon round, when you want a quick round, this place is ideal. I will be back!

We got the opportunity to play this course yesterday afternoon. I'd like to thank the Club at Sunrise and Johnny GK for the round. Aside from a few burned out areas, the course turf was in fantastic condition. I am told that this course is 100% paspallum grass. It provided a great surface to hit from and wonderful lies, except in the case where you ended up in the deep rough or drainage channels lining the course along the right side of every fairway. The favorite saying for us was," The ditch is a (insert word that rhymes with itch). The biggest drawback on this course is that it is lined on the left by houses and on the right by a creek or wash. You really have to hit a straight drive or play a consistent fade or draw, otherwise you could end up in trouble. It's not that tight, but it could be an issue. I'm not that good, but I played OK and there were sufficient landing areas to keep most of my drives in play. The greens were in great condition. They look beautiful, however they did not roll as nice as they looked. That grass was somewhat course and grainy and it was a little bit shaggy and slow. It wasn't bad, but it definitely does not roll like a bent grass green. Good pace of play at just about 3:15. Plenty of ice and water was provided for our comfort.

I played here last weekend, the winds where pretty strong, with gusts of 25-30 MPH. The fairways where in super condition, like hitting off of carpet, with a lot of undulation. The course is out lined with the red clay gravel, so if you hook, your hitting from the surface. There is a lot of trouble throughout the course, but mostly playable. The bunkers are firm, with good quality sand. The bunkers are strategically placed throughout each hole. The greens where my only negative feed back, they are SLOW, like really SLOW! They where just aerated. I diffidently will play here again, but I hope the greens are rolled and grown in next time.
