Played this AM in 3 H. Front 9 slow due to 2 players who jumped in front of our first off group and were SLOW. As they had not checked in with the starter, we had the marshal make them wait and let us through at the turn. We never saw them again and played the back 9 in great time. Course is not much different from last week in regard to conditions. Today it was very wet as they were putting a lot of water on the course, in anticipation of a few hot days. The system they are using for the cups is called E Z lift (This touchless ball retrieval solution is a Cool Golf Thing | Golf › articles › cool-golf-things-ez-li...) and it is really a nice idea. Customer service excellent at all levels. The driving range is now open. They need to lower the Sr rate IMO. We passed that on to management today.
Played today. There is nothing I can add that Weber and Larry1 have not stated. I find this a challenging and enjoyable course to play. The staff is wonderful. The price for the quality of golf is fantastic. Each time I play it, I find or discover another nuance on how to play certain holes to my benefit. The only negative I have is the distance needed to travel when traffic patterns are at their peak. But with traffic being light recently, I will continue to play it as much as I can, before the roads become clogged again (and I hope they do).
First off this morning 3 H POP. I first noticed that the fairways have some "golden" grass in most of them. So either water is not reaching, or the hot weather is setting in on the grass? Today it did not hamper lies, but who knows as summer creeps in? Tee boxes were all fine. Very little rough but enough OB, small canyons and water to make up for that. Fairways did provide good lies and roll all round. Bunkers were all clean and playable. Felt bad being in one w/o a rake. Greens were just fine. Chipped/putted well and held shots very nicely. The have installed a J device that you lift with your putter to take ball out of cup. Nice touch as it does not affect the ball at all and you can let the ball go into the cup vs other strange arrangements on various courses. Range is still closed. Snack bar food to go only. Bring your own water/beverage. Masks in and around pro shop. OK to remove on the course. Customer service excellent at all levels. Still think the Sr price is too high IMO.
Out early done early on a beautiful day on the Peninsula. Excellent tee boxes. Fairways had good cover and good roll. Rough was down and not a factor. No bunkers but they could use some work, like most in S CA. Greens were in good shape all round (no issues). Always love getting out early in Summer on Los Verdes. Excellent customer service at all levels.
Played today early to beat the heat. Which really never came, making it a great day in the desert. The course is in fabulous condition. As others have noted. Having played here numerous times, I wanted to get back here before it closed. Tee boxes fine. Fairways nice with good roll (never had a bad lie). Rough was manageable but stayed out all round. Greens were just wonderful all round in chipping/putting holding shots. Customer service is excellent at Rams Hill. Even found a silver lining re the virus? Traffic down and back was outstanding. It may be a long drive for many of us? But I cannot imagine you will complain to much should you play here.
Played this AM in a nice 3.5 H POP. After playing The Babe on Monday I was not expecting much to change in conditions. We were correct. Nice green lush course. You can really see the maintenance that has been going on. Really like that they have removed some of the rough around many greens, opening up your options to hit the green (nice touch). Great customer service as always. Found the tee boxes, fairways and greens (good chipping/putting today) to be very playable. Bunkers are not in good condition but that is to be understood. Yes you pay a little more than The Babe, but the challenge is much greater on this course IMO.
Played this morning in 3 H. Nice walk in the park. Great that it was less overcast then yesterday. I don't have much to add to what Weber has stated regarding conditions. Also glad to see that the rates have remained the same for walking seniors. Customer service was good. They have such a nice restaurant and good menu and not being open that did diminish some of the enjoyment. Not a fan of being required to leave the property without some after golf socialization with friends.
Played this morning as first out (5:30) 2.5 H POP. Glad I went early, as it was raining very hard when I finished. Usual virus precautions in and around the shop. Found the course to be in relatively good shape. Maintenance was very busy this morning. The tee boxes are all fine. Fairways were being mowed (green/lush) and provided good lies, but not all of them had good roll out. Rough outside of the fairways is not deep but balls drop down making them hard to find. And the rough on some of the hills is deep and thick. Sand traps are all bad. Many of them have grass growing in them. Found the greens to be in good shape (pins are in with inverted cups) for holding shots, releasing shots and chipping/putting. But they are inconsistent in speed. Great customer service at all levels. For $49 rate I find this an excellent price for such a good course.
Played this AM. First out. 2 H POP. First tee time is 7 AM (asked why not earlier and was told that was what City of Glendale wanted? OK). Gates open at 6:30. So no reason to get there early. And they want you to walk the front 9 unless you have Hdcp or are disabled. You can then get a cart for the back 9. Seems they have a shortage of carts at present (see below). I rode with my friend who has a hcdp placard and flag. When you receive your confirmation tee time, the cart situation is explained in detail (read it). Maybe tee times and cart situation will change over time? So if you are going to play, confirm with pro shop if you book with them. Only online and call to pro shop available for reservations. The course itself is in very nice shape. All the tee boxes were just fine. No rough to speak of but enough OB and side hill lies to give you problems. Sand traps were clean, but the sand was not soft and the surface was hard to hit from. Only in one trap thankfully but others had trouble all round. I noticed that on the par 4 holes the fairway grass was dormant and not green. Looks like they did not water them? They were playable but visually they looked bad? Greens were just great. Held shots. Released shots and putted with speed and especially downhill. All the holes had pins with inverted cups. Customer service excellent at all levels. I enjoy this course very much. It has a great variety of holes and challenges. And the prices are really good. Don't want a strenuous round of golf? But want a challenge? Play here IMO. Not to mention that the views are awesome. And they were today.
Played this AM in 3 H. Course is in the best shape I personally have ever seen it. Tee boxes are good. Fairways are covered with semi lush green grass. Good roll and lies all round. Bunkers were playable but no rakes to repair. Rough outside of the fairways is deep. Easy to loose a ball. Not to mention the OB rough which is along the course is the type to stay out of. Greens were the best I have ever seen. Held shots, released shots and had great speed. 1 player per cart. Flagsticks in, with rubber stopper around the top of the cup. So hit the cup and count it? We even had one of our guys on # 11 hit in front of the hole and it hopped over the stopper and into the cup, for a legitimate hole in one. We were all in shock. I think he still is, as it was his first. And of course the bar has to be closed LOL. Customer service is very good and check in is fast. At present the rate is $50 with no senior rates. Lower rates later in the day. All tee times booked online or by calling course. No walk ups.
Played today with friends as tribute to our dear friend Frank Fukuhara, who passed away two weeks ago at the age of 105. Frank along with his brother Jim played with us every week at L V for over ten years. In fact he stopped playing at age 102. Many of you who have played at L V for years may remember him? Great day of golf with fond memories and the course provided us with great conditions. I was pleased to read the previous review regarding the rough and that helped me tremendously through the round (its bad). We had great conditions on the tees (all good) fairways (good lies and decent roll today) and greens are great (glad I have local knowledge). So much thanks to the ground crew. Wish we could have enjoyed an adult beverage after the round, but rules require leaving the grounds ASAP. One of the best, if not the best County course in LA.
Played this AM. Wanted to get out and walk, instead of using a cart and this course fits the bill. POP was 3 H. Check in is at the driving range shack, as the Pro shop is closed. Very good system. Upon paying proceed to tee box and check in with starter, who is there to make sure tee times are kept in order. No change in charges to play. Carts are allowed. Play is only allowed by reservation done online, or calling for tee time. No walk ups. Driving range is open. Course is in good shape. Tee boxes were all fine (6 12 13 tee boxes open). Fairways were green/covered, though some brown spots are beginning to show. Good lies but not much roll out. Rough was about 1" and thick. Found several balls that had not been found, most likely from weekend players. Traps were all clean and playable, but as most already know, no rakes to repair. Greens all looked great and held shots, but were very slow in putting. Very good customer service from all staff. Restaurant was not open today, but is expected to shortly for take out.
