Gratefully the rain stopped overnight and the course drained really well. There was no water standing on the course at all. The greens are always the highlight of this course and today was no exception. The greens are small and well protected by traps and mounds. The severe slopes make it critical to stay bellow the hole. The tees are a bit thin from the drought but are coming back with our recent rains. The fairways and tees still show some visible signs of punching but the tees are level and show minimal divot damage. The fairways looked like the had not been cut in a few days (likely due to the rain) and so had dome tufts of green giving some uneven lies. The rough was hit or miss for coverage with most of the course being covered with dormant/dry grass with occasional bit of green growth. There were quite a few areas marked off as ground under repair as they were being seeded.

I was in a few traps today and as expected they were firm and a bit damp but full of sand a very playable (with decent technique).

The greens have 2 big points. First they were fast and cut. The rolled true and were, as always, lethal from above the hole. There was some pitch mark damage but only a little and nothing that severely affected play. Next the pin placements were illegal. The one that come to mind is 18 which was 3' from the edge and in the top 1/4 of a severe slope. 3 players in the group made their putts by going past the hole on the high side and having the ball come back in from above the hole. The 4th player had 1 20' sidehill putt which missed and rolled 10-12' down the hill. then 2 putts in a row missed 1" low and 2" past the hole only to roll back the exact same spot the ball had started. Finally he made the putt but this was ridiculous. I can't think of a worse way to slow down a weekend Griffith park round.

Over all a great course with some really tough green complexes and tight driving holes. Lots of fun and well worth the price especially if you get a 4:30 round like we did in a tournament (after teeing off 20 min late).

Played a practice round at Wilson this morning and it was as always a great round of golf. This course has some really challenging holes and some fun risk reward holes. The greens were much softer than usual and very receptive to well struck shots. They were running on the slow side for Wilson but still were very frustrating if you were in the wrong spot. The divot damage was minimal for Wilson and didn't interfere with the roll at all.

The fairways are brown with a little green coming back after the rain this led to some tufts of grass and a difficult lies even in the fairway. They were soft and a bit damp from the rain. This led to many soft but thin lies which require almost perfect contact to get close. I was a bit steep with my swing today and that made it very tough.

Several of the tee boxes had been sanded recently. The sand boxes were also very thin which made the lie a bit odd but still very playable and level.

I was in a few traps and they were damp and firm but had good sand and full coverage.
We plays a bit slow but didn't wait at all for the group in front nor did we delay the group behind. A great day and the rain held off until we had finished.

This is the second time in 2 weeks that I have payed here. I was playing in a 2 day event and the pins were placed in tight and difficult locations. The greens were fast as well. The course is a control course with some very interesting shots. To play well here you should be able to bend the all both ways or be very confident in your stock shot. The fairways are well covered and have lots of slopes and side hill lies. The greens are small and angled.
The taps were firm but good with occasional thin spots. They do have my pet peeve which is sand raked up the sides. This results in soft sides and firm or had bottoms. I wish more greens keeps would pay attention and fix this.

The greens need to be viticulture and thinned out so that they can be rolled and firmed up. Today they were very fast with pins tucked in slopes and tight locations. With the softness of the greens this resulted in bumpy greens. I had several putts which I needed to feather down the hill to the hole but I couldn't keep on line due to the bumps.

While I hate the pace of play most days and the lack of ability to get out on time, this is really a good course and a fun test of shotmaking and control.

This is the first time I have parlayed Los Amigos. This was a 2 day event and the organizer asked that the pins be placed in challenging positions and they definitely were.
The course is very flat and on the short side. However most of the holes that play under 400 yards are severe dog legs. This is a placement control course. I hit some good shots and some fair shots but was in jail more often than I would like to admit.
The layout is good and challenging but one that requires that you know the start lines and the contours of the greens for Saturday the greens were firm and fast. Putts from above the hole would not stop. Several putts I barely touched ran 6' by. I was in a few traps and they were amazing. The sand was soft, white and plentiful. Be prepared that these are not the normal firm sand bunkers but soft silica sand that equities a real blast shot to get the right distance.
The greens were severely contoured and deceptive in their break. The only real short coming to the course were the tee boxes which were heavily sloped. Most of the tees were in the far back on the boxes and almost dropped off the back.

I will definitely be back to play again if only to try and regain my pride.

Played a 2nd round match today at El Do. We got to the course early and teed off right on time. We had no delays until 13 after which we had to wait on each tee. Still we finished in 4.5 hrs in perfect weather. The GM and asst manager came out to chat with us and see how the round went.
The tees were level and had good coverage. They were VERY hard and took some effort to get a peg in the ground. The maintenance crews were out but very respectful and kept the noise down when were were putting on 5. The fairways were full and lush but running a bit slow. Greens were quick down hill but hard to get a good line or long putt due to the remnants of sand on the greens. It was all large grains which usually had no impact but made downhill putts a challenge.

I was in 2 greenside bunkers and the sand was damp and firm but good. I was able to slide the club under no problem and get some spin on the ball. The rough was spotty with clumpy grass and some really deep spots but then again I should have been there.

The course is in good shape now and i think will be great for the Long beach golf festival this summer.

I played at Alondra last night for the first time in 6 months and the greenskeeper should be shot. The fairways are poor and have dried dying areas. The rough has huge bare spots and lots of dirt and pebbles. The greens which used to be good took a serious turn for the worse. They were soft, bumpy and shaggy. While I could understadn this at the end of a tuesday, they also had what looked like a fungus. The practice green on the other hand is a decent speed and smoothness.

How they can charge $14 starting at 6pm when Skylinks, Lakewood and El Dorado are charging $9 starting at 5:30 is beyond me. Clearly some genius at city hall is doing the planning.

Played Lakewood for the second time in 2 weeks and the conditions are getting worse. The tee boxes are fairly good with minimal divots even on the par 3s. There are a few including 15 that as just tilted.

The rough is thin and wispy with scattered clumps of grass. The bad grass is broken by stretches of dirt which was wet and sticky this morning.

I was in too many bunkers. All the bunkers were damp and lacked any dry sand. Several had silty, sticky or muddy areas. Even with this they were consistent and played fairly well.

The fairways were burns and someone with only a passing understanding of a lawnmower cut them too close for what ever the conditions because there were many areas where they were trashed and burnt. Quite a few areas had only the thinnest cover of grass on a wet base.

The greens are usually the highlight of Lakewood. I expect them to be firm and fast. Today they were a mi-slow speed and overly damp. Shots were leaving gashes in the greens which apparently most people don't bother to or don't know how to fix. The greens did roll true.

Lastly we saw the cart only once (on the 16th) and she didn't even stop but asked if we were good as she drove by.

Honestly a second disappointment in as many weeks. I really hope to see a different course when the Long Beach Golf festival comes though next month. I will see what happens before then.

Played at 9 am on Sunday with my normal group. We teed off a few minutes late which was a good indication for the day. We waited on every tee and a few fairways on our way to a 5:20 min round. We did see the marshal a few times and he was friendly enough and had cool water but didn't seem interested in moving play along. The group in front of us waved us up on every par 3 but then would all go to line up each person's putt in turn.

The tee boxes were in fair shape and generally level. There were a few tees we struggled to find a flat spot (2, 6, 11 and 14). the 14th tee box was flat but had a good 2' rise between the back and front.

The greens were very soft and even soggy in a few places. They rolled true except for the poorly fixed divots. There were surprisingly few pitch marks on the greens and the speed was on the slow side for Lakewood.

The fairways were dry, hard and spotty. Almost every fairway had bare spots, burn out and crusty spots. There was also a lot of old divots that were not filled in. On that note I was disappointed that there were no filler bottles for me as a walker.

The rough was spotty at best. Lots of clumps of grass, dirt and mud and thin grass. This made the lies in the rough a crap shoot. Even balls that ran 2-3' off the fairway could come to rest in holes surrounded by grass or in 10' circles of soft dirt.

I was in a few bunkers and they were all crusty, poorly raked and damp underneath. They did have sand and I didn't see any thin spots but the sand had a lot of dirt in it.

Then there was the cart girl. I saw her at least 3 times but she never stopped. She drove past me twice and one time she was parked on the 9th tee and drove off just as we were coming off the 8th green. Not good service.

Overall I was disappointed in the course. I like the track as it has some really fun holes and is ideal for my group with players from +1 to -28. But the maintenance is really slipping. Typical of what I have seen from american golf. They maintain the greens but let everything else slide focusing on the once a month of twice a year golfer who doesn't care about conditions as long as the greens are green and not too fast. I hope that it is in better shape for the tournaments coming up.

Played a Match play event with Tom at Skylinks. It was a great day, warm and a hit of a breeze. The match started well and both of us had a putt at par. Tom drained his and I missed a 4' putt for par. That would set the tone for the whole day. It was a hard fought battle but I never got the putter going and could not keep up with Tom.

The fairways were hard and cut tight. There was no real rough to avoid. The greens were nicely recovered from aeration and running true. They were slower than normal uphill and fairly quick down hill. Many of the holes were cut on side slopes and very tough to get at. But given all the heat recently they have done a good job of balancing watering and keeping the course from swamping.

Played in a local tournament today after the LA County 4 ball event. We were supposed to tee of at 10:24 and were still waiting trying to figure out which group was on the tee at 11. We finally got out and plodded our way through a 5:30 round (actually not too bad for a weekend here). The fairways were dry and burned out in places in addition to having been aerated recently and having areas with the dried chunks still visible. The greens still had visible sanded holes from being aerated. The greens were generally receptive to well struck shots and were on the slower side with some dips of fuzzy grass. The fairway bunkers were firm and well sanded as were the greenside bunkers. The biggest complaint today was the spotty nature of the rough. There were many dried out cracked dirt spots, dried out long grass and tufts of grass. On 18 A well struck drive dribbled into the left rough and was in a small hole with a large tuft of grass behind one side of the ball.

As always Los Verdes has some of the best views in Los Angeles and makes for a fun round, especially when it is so hot inland.

I played Angeles National for the 2nd year in a row on my birthday. This year I did have to pay $15 but it was well worth the drive and the $. We were racing the rain and got off to a rough start as i goofed up the reservation day. The staff was very helpful and got us off within 15 min of our desired time. We started on 10 as the 9s were reversed for the day. The fairways were dormant but dry and running fast. The greens were as always fast and firm but rolling very true. With the wind and the rain it was a tough day but as always alot of fun.
Despite being between 2 groups we were able to get in all 18 is just under 4 hrs, Fortunately for us the rain didn't start until we were putting on the 18th. A great day and a great course.

The course was in good shape. The greens were excellent and fast. The breaks are subtle but rolling true. The fairways were a little long and the rough non existent. The 16th fairway was the only real problem. We were stuck behind a 4-some all day waiting at each tee-box and approach shot but still played in just about 5 hrs.
