Golf Course Reviews
Golf Course Reviews: California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Utah, Florida, Hawaii!Played today 7/17 with a group of friends at 8am this morning. Heat wasn't too bad during the morning hours.
Course is in the same shape as my prior review. The sand traps were a bit better, sand wasn't rock hard and had been raked. Still a bit wet when we played.
Tee boxes were nice as usual, level, and nicely mown.
Greens... Super smooth and rolling well. Not too many ball marks which was a relief. This course has some of the nicest greens for a publicly played course in the valley. Really nice! All accept well struck shots.
The fairway areas are really nice.
Great value when using a booking site like teeoff.com
Course greens are being punched on July 18 and 19.

Played the whites (6158/70.0/127) today with my two neighbors using a teeoff deal at 8am Weather was good with a light breeze and some gusting to mid teens. POP was great at 3.5 hours. We saw nobody ahead of us and only one group behind for about 5 holes. Personnel at the course was good as usual, check in prompt, free range balls and told, go out whenever you are ready. Driving range is nice with grass stations, buckets of balls, well marked target baskets/greens, and bag stand. Practice putting green was punched a while back and still has the tire track burn marks.
Fairways were in nice shape for the most part. Where there was grass it was nice. There are many areas that appear burned out and/or salt damaged. Plenty of areas I would deem GUR and moving the ball to a decent grass spot occurred on occasion. Divot mix was on the carts and I ran out as they weren't filled completely.
Rough here ranges from bushes and hardpan, to pretty thick grass on the slopes. The slopes here don't generally feed back to the fairway as the grass is a bit too long. Some lies were very good and others nestle down, making it more penal.
The traps were a mixed bag. Some filled with decent sand others more hardpack. All the bunkers I was in were raked prior to our round which made playing fromt hem a bit more predictable. The greenside traps were OK, nice to hit shots from. There weren't many if any unraked footprints, so that was a nice change of pace for this tract. Fairway bunkers looked OK.
The greens were still healing from the recent punching. Putts would make some strange turns and take big bounces along it's line. Breaks were tough to judge and speed was inconsistent throughout the round. Very slow to quick, never knew what was going to happen. Some of the greens still have the burn marks/striping in them from something on the mower tires. It's really bad on a couple of holes, almost like roundup was on them. Dead bare stripes of ground, no grass. The back nine appeared a bit better than the front, but still not entirely healed. Greens were great at accepting a good shot. In a week or two the greens should be recovered.
Carts had well stocked ice in the cooler. No on-course food/drink service. Frank at the cart barn is always a kick and knows one of my playing partners pretty well. Good guys.
If I can ever straighten out my POS swing with my POS driver, I'd enjoy playing more. LOL When in better shape the course is good and has a reasonable green fee through online services. Same as most of the courses right now, better greens would make the round a bunch better. We will definitely return to play again during the summer months.

Played the whites (6227/70.6/126) today with my neighbor using a golfnow hot deal at about 1:00pm... only 105 today, not too toasty... LOL. POP was great at 3.5 hours, could have been 3 hours or less except for the "ball search" that had to occur. We saw only two other groups on the course. Personnel at the course was great as usual, check in prompt, free range balls and told, go out whenever you are ready. Light breeze helped a bit with the heat. Driving range is very nice with well groomed grass stations, pyramid of balls, bag stand and water station close. Practice putting green was punched a while back and still showed signs of holed/sanding. They rolled much better than most of the on course greens.
Fairways were in great shape, green and lush. No thin lies on any of my shots from the fairways. Nice lies were the outcome. Divot mix was on the carts.
Rough here is bushes and hardpan, club killing, clay/rock like substance. I took the advice of another GKer and put a "rock club" in my bag today. The slopes can be beneficial at times funneling balls back to the fairway. The desert area bushes will eat up balls.
The traps were filled with decent sand. The greenside traps were good, a little fluffy and noce to hit shots from. There were some unraked footprints from the lazy arse golfers. Fairway bunkers looked OK. My playing partner was a couple and some bunkers are very steeply faced.
The greens were "MEH"! Not real good as the the recent punching has not healed yet. Rough and sandy. Putts would start out straight on line and move 20* to the right or left after hitting a punch marks or some other mountain of aggravation. I had 9 putts for birdie from 2-20', 5 under 6', and missed every one of them. Breaks were virtually non-existent and speed was inconsistent throughout the round. Very slow to quick, never knew what was going to happen. The back nine appeared a bit better than the front, 13-18 were the best, but still not entirely healed. Greens were great at accepting a good shot. I had a couple that my ball was in the ball mark, just stuck. The same lazy crew that doesn't rake bunkers must have played just ahead of us. Many fresh, deep marks were on just about every green. We fixed a bunch of marks. In a week or two the greens should recover and if the rest of the course is in the same shape it will be a great summer course to play.
Carts had well stocked ice in the cooler. There were plenty of water coolers around the course, every 3 holes IIRC. No on-course food/drink service.
I enjoy the layout. Good course for a reasonable rate that you need to be on your game hitting it straight. Had the greens been in better condition, it would have been a great round of golf. I will definitely return to play again when the greens are healed up.

Played the Boulder course from the Blues (6328/69.6/117) today with my neighbor on July 4 early AM in about 3 hours. POP was great with only a couple other groups out at 7am. It was a nice morning, little breeze, starting around 80 and ending around 90ish. We were behind a single and he cruised. Driving range was nice with grass. Practice putting green was punched a while back and still showed signs of maintenance. They rolled much better than the on course greens.
Fairways were in good shape. Nice lies were usually the outcome. Some areas were pretty thin and should have been GUR. Divot mix was on the carts, containers were not full at the start and we ran out before the turn. The mix rack at the turn had some containers, all were empty. So we couldn't fill any of our divots on the back 9. Rough was not overly penal, but, you had to be careful with the some of the taller grass (hosel grabbers). The desert areas will eat up balls and the bushes can be brutal.
The traps were usually filled with decent sand. The greenside traps were good, if not a little hard packed. They weren't fluffy and care was needed as to not overcook any shot. They definitely had too many footprints from the lazy arse golfers and could use a good raking. Fairway bunkers looked OK, luckily I wasn't in any. My playing partner was and caught the lip on a shot as some bunkers are very steeply faced.
The greens were not good at all. They were great at accepting a good shot. Ball marks a plenty from those same lazy folks that don't rake bunkers. They had been punched and sanded about 2 weeks prior and showed evidence of punching. Rough and sandy. Breaks were non existent and speed was very slow to the point of throwing a parachute out on some putts. Very frustrating to have one going right at the heart and the brakes gets thrown on to come up short. Maybe in a week or two the greens will recover.
Cart service personnel was fantastic. Didn't catch his name, awesome older gentleman. Carts had well stocked ice in the cooler and had a GPS info panel which worked OK. I prefer a range finder to the generic info the GPS provided. There were plenty of water coolers around the course and no food/drink service that early in the morning.
I had never played this course before. I enjoyed the layout. Good course for a reasonable rate that isn't a killer like many courses out here in the valley can be. Had the greens been in better condition, it would have made the round much better. I would definitely return to play again when the greens are healed up.

Played in the GK event and had a great time. Played with Hmtgolfguy, mpisarski01 and Sixpez. I appreciate their patience as I hit what seemed like every tree (arborist hate me!) and even a retaining screen in the first nine! :) Good to put faces to the screen names and talking with the other GKers after playing was awesome. Thanks to Johnny, Los Serranos and everyone else that was involved in making the event happen.
I used to play the LS courses quite often about 20 years ago. Nice to see the course again. Had the same basic set up with a lot fewer trees from what I remember. Hard to add anything to the other reviews. If I lived closer to the facility, both courses would definitely be on a regular rotation of play.

Played today 6/12 with a buddy and a nice couple that live in the community at 9am this morning. Got a tee time through teeoff.com for under $20. Luckily the heat wasn't UP today!
The course is in marginal shape all around. Apparently the current management group is on the way out and Troon is coming in around July. The course looks like it's been put on the back burner and the pot unwatched. Nothing about the course conditions I would classify as excellent and hard to find anything good. It was MEH!!!
Greens... Are bumpy, burned out and rough. Barely any grass on the front nine and the back nine was marginally better. An exercise in ruining any sense of pace or speed that you may THINK you have. Many of them have what appears to be burned in stripes from something on the tires of mowers or support vehicles. The greens would be a challenge in good shape with the slopes, the rotten current condition makes them really tough.
The fairway areas are hit and miss. Some areas are lush and green providing nice lies. A lot of fairways have a lot of GUR areas. The rough was decent and not too bad, it did create some issues regarding lie and what you could hit.
Tee boxes were decent.
For the price it was OK. If I had paid more for the round, I would have been disappointed.

Played today 6/5 with a group of friends at 8am this morning. Got a tee time through teeoff.com for the crazy price of 11 each + fee, total about $13. Great deal for the summer time frame out here and mostly beat the heat today. The breeze helped with the heat, no so much with the shot making.
The course is in great shape with one exception... the sand traps. They SUCK!!! Forestt Gump specials. You never know what you're going to get. Wet and hardpacked, dry and concrete. Pretty bad and nothing good in any of them. We had one gentleman play through who hit into the bunker. I was in said bunker and he asked for his ball. I asked if he was sure he didn't want to finish up from this fine location, he said something like "F that" and moved through our group! They were that bad.
Tee boxes were nice. Our group does a nice job using divot mix and filling areas that were torn up. Boxes are level, and nicely mown.
Greens... Super smooth and rolling well. Not too many ball marks which was a relief. Only two greens, 14 and 18, appears to have an issue. 14 is a mess for the first 8-12 feet of the green, marked GUR. The rest is really nice. 18 has some burned out areas on the slope facing south, getting burned by the sun is my guess. The rest are really nice and soft. All accept well struck shots and will allow for spinning them back, checking up, if you have that shot in your arsenal. Lots of balls within 3 feet of ball marks which is nice.
The fairway areas are really nice, mown well and provide good lies for errant shots at this par 3. Unlucky shot will definitely roll down slopes away from the greens.
Great course to work on your iron/hybrid game and an exceptional value if you use one of the tee time services.

Played the blues today with a 1:39 tee time through Golfnow, it was a bargain!!! Was sent out with two junior players, Elise and Chloe, who were getting in a practice round before playing in a tournament over the weekend. They both had a parent riding along with them. Two really good players for Freshman in High School, I was impressed with their game.
The course was in nice shape. Check in was smooth and staff was pleasant. One thing I did was call prior to ask about aeration and was told they weren't doing any until June. Only issue I had was they had been punched recently. Another week and they will be in nicer shape is my guess. I wouldn't hesitate to play out here again over the next 7-10 days.
Tee boxes were level and nicely trimmed.
Fairways were like carpet, I didn't have a thin lie anywhere when on the grass. I was getting plenty of roll on most drives and hit one about 315 on 18. I wish the rest of them went that straight... not so lucky. LOL The waste areas can be nasty and really do a number on the soles of clubs. Keep it in the short grass!!!
Bunkers were hit and miss. I was in one that was incredible with fluffy sand. The other was hard packed and moist, even at 4 pm.
Greens were receptive and putted pretty quick. Even with the punching, they ran smooth except when you ran directly over a punch mark. Patrons don't like to fix marks here either... I fixed a BUNCH on just about every green.
Had another "I hate technology" moment. Drove up to par 3 #7, didn't look at the card, phone app said 166. I grab a 6 Iron, walk almost right over the marker on the ground and hit a nice 170 yard shot to a pin that was 145... DOH!!! LOL What a dummy!!! Revenge was I chipped back to 4 feet and made the putt... take that you stupid phone app! My guess, it was updating slowly. Too lazy to pull my rangefinder sitting in a nice holder in the cart.
Was a really nice afternoon of golf. I'd definitely go back again to play the course. Real nice track IMO.

Got to play in the GK event and what a course. Hard to state how impressed I was with the conditions, layout and beauty of the Rams Hill facility.
Driving range was very nice. The range finders were a nice touch and something I'd never seen before.
The Course was challenging and in exceptional condition. Nice tee boxes, great fairways, some tough rough, good sand traps and really interesting/challenging greens. I spent $70 to play a course the week before and Rams Hills for the extra money was a millions times nicer.
Thanks to the 3 other guys, Andrew, Kevin and Benjamin, in the group, even though I was tough to see... :) Awesome fun!
I definitely plan to play here again and recommend it to anyone that wants an exceptional golf outing. Top flight Facility- A++

Played 1/2/16 at about 10am as a twosome with my friend that is just beginning to play. It was windy, as in bad windy. The driving range was akin to tin cup. Really thin and mostly dirt.
The course was in typical winter shape. Dormant fairways everywhere. Any grass coverage was pretty thin. Rough was very patchy, manageable, not overly penal. Sand in bunkers was OK. One was great. Another I was in was loaded with small rocks/pebbles.
I'm not a fan of courses where a good safe shot onto the green surface is absolutely punished, the wind likely didn't help. I hit 9 greens on the fly and had TWO stay on the greens. Hit an 8 iron from 150, pretty high, left a huge ball mark on the slightly sloping back to front green, hit, released and ran 60 feet off the back into some garbage laden drop off. The greens look really ugly but were very fast and little bumpy.
The course is usually nice when not in the winter shape/dormant. I really like the layout, especially the front 9. Stay away from here if wind bothers you or your game. Every time I've played here it's been an issue. Not withstanding the stellar playing partner he chooses, LOL, my friend that struggles to hit the ball 200 yds was miserable. He would have preferred the local muni 3x at $20 vs the 69 we paid to play today. I'd play here again only if the green fees were a bunch less.

Played Dec 23 late in afternoon and into evening for $20, lights are a good thing. The neat thing about this par 3 course is you can pull just about any club to hit while playing a round. Holes range from 100-230 yards. It was very windy which makes things interesting when balls are blown 30 yards off line. Or, hitting a 5 iron into a 140 yarder and the same 5 iron into a 195 yard hole (still blew it long by 10 yards LOL).
The tee boxes are in pretty decent shape. Some are in need of leveling, nothing that can't be dealt with. Almost no hazards except for out of bounds and a lake that fringes 8, 9, 17 & 18. The 195 yard 13, known as the ball eating MFer :), seems to eat a lot of balls, both in the oleanders along the left side and OB left.
One thing about this course, patrons apparently hate to fix ball marks. It flat out sucks in that respect. Bunch of lazy POS, IMHO. Nothing like having to fix 4 ball marks in your line on a 15 foot putt. The greens were bikini waxed, rolling insanely fast. Add in the crazy wind gusts and you have a recipe for excitement on the greens. Don't dare be above the hole! Getting a ball barely started on line could have you 30+ feet away by the time it was done with it's wind-aided walkabout.
I like the course for working on my irons. A friend just started golfing and it's a decent course that isn't penal for him as well. Being relatively flat, it's also a very easy walk. We tend to play here year round about 3 times a month on average.

Played in the GK year end event and had a great time. I was fighting a very bad lower back. I almost didn't show, I'm glad I did - complete with a TENS unit firmly attached. I had some painful moments... my horrid golf shots!!! :) I have to thank Mark, Jeff and Lee for their patience. A great group to play a round of golf with on an incredible December desert day. Thank you Johnny for putting on the event.
The practice facility was one of the nicest I've ever been on. The staff was great, very helpful and courteous.
The course was the nicest visually I've ever been on. I enjoyed playing and thought it was strange to only pull a driver maybe 6-8 times. Hit a bunch of hybrids off the tees. The 12th hole as mentioned is a strange layout. Missed closest to the pin by 6 feet to my cart partner Mark, great shot in there! Not to mention his mid 70's score for the round. Mark was a machine!
Fairways, tee boxes and rough were all good by me. I thought the greens varied greatly from one hole to the next and on the slower side. The local muni greens are faster right now. I'm usually pretty solid on pace and really struggled. I agree with 1plus1 here, they were not the best in regards to consistency or speed. Some greens had plenty of unrepaired marks, especially 11. Poor green needed some Pro-activ. The rest of the experience was very good.
Sand in the bunkers was very good.
Great to meet the rest of the GK gang, it was a pleasure to talk with those I met. I'll definitely plan on attending future GK events. If they let me, I'd play with the three others in our group anytime. Good people. On a side note, I figured my back would be torched Sunday night... I actually felt better and have all week. The event may have been the nectar to recovery! Thanks again for a great event.
The practice facility was one of the nicest I've ever been on. The staff was great, very helpful and courteous.
