Friend got a deal for $35 with cart so we made the drive down to Hollister to see what the fuss was about and I have to say I was rather unimpressed considering the amount of buzz surrounding this course right now. Don't get me wrong it's nice, but it's not a must play, and certainly not one of the top public venues in the state. I found that the slope and course rating suggest a much tougher course than San Juan Oaks actually plays. Not near as much trouble out there as the ratings suggest.

Overall the tee boxes are in great shape as well as the fairways and rough. The bunkers were inconsistent, some were perfect, others had barely any sand in them. The greens roll true for the most part, but there were several greens that were bumpy. The wind in the afternoon blows very hard. I would recommend playing this course early.

In conclusion, it's a nice course, but not that nice. Worth playing if you are in the area, but if you have to drive over a half hour to get there chances are you will drive past a comparable or better course along the way.

Tee Boxes, Fairways, and Bunkers were consistent and immaculate. The rough was very inconsistent. At time very thick at other times bare and divots were not repaired in the rough whatsoever. Tough to get the ball to go anywhere out of the rough and tough to get any type of decent lie. The greens were fast and rolled true but there could definitely be a better effort to repair the ball marks. Also the greens could use some water, very tough to get anything to hold into these greens right now.

Overall the course is in good shape and is a challenging but enjoyable round. It's also a place where anyone can play because there are numerous tee boxes for all levels of golfer. Well worth the $65 deal with cart on golfnow.

Played the Tournament Course yesterday at the $55 e-mail rate. It was probably my 5th time on the course and it was probably in the worst shape that I've ever played it...that being said, it was still in pretty good shape.

Tees were uneven on occassion, but you could still always find a flat spot to pay from. Fairways and Rough were great. I hit a couple fairway bunkers that were hard and shallow, which is great from the fairway, but my playing partner complained of the same conditions for greenside bunkers, which made it very tough to get the ball up and out of.

The greens were rolling true but were very hard and were not holding many approach shots. They also had some ball mark damage. But overall it was still a great round and very enjoyable for a demanding course.

One word of advice, the greens do not break near as much as you think. Play them for much less break and be sure to be on the right tier. This will help your score greatly

While this is the closest 18 hole offering to my house, there is a reason why it is not my home course. It's a junk course and they don't care.

The play is slow because of high handicappers wanting to play a less challenging course, which is fine, but they do not help these players play faster because their carts are junk and might be from the 60's/70's. No roof in an area where it's constantly misting at least. Gas powered which takes a delay before it moves, and then they are slow as molasses.

The women's tees are way too far back. For men this course is very fair and not too challenging. For women this course may as well be 8000 yards. I played with two senior women and it took them 4-5 strokes to get to every green except the par 3's and they could hit the ball fairly well. They need to put in new tee boxes to help the women out, and help the pace of play.

There is no way to distinguish the fairway and the rough, there is pretty much one cut of grass on the whole course. There are also daisies and all kinds of other species that do not belong on the fairways.

There greens are extremely slow and bumpy. You have to bring the hammer down on anything over 20 feet just to get it close to the hole. 3 feet and in are no gimmes because the ball can jump off line very easily.

The tee boxes are level for the most part but could use some flattening out, and the bunkers were hard as a rock and are only located next to greens.

Overall this course needs new management. A few small improvements with the same low green fee could really make this course one of the best deals in the bay.

If they clean up their act I'd bet the WWF would back off from trying to close them down.

I would consider Sj Muni my "home course". Very friendly staff, they don't go the extra mile, but there definitely aren't mean either.

The greens are running a little faster this summer. They are cutting them noticeably shorter and they must be rolling them more often because I found the roll to stay true a lot longer than it used to and doesn't jump nearly as much. This is a large improvement over super slow bumpy greens of seasons past.

Fairways and rough are very green and lush. You really never get a bad lie at Muni.

Tee Boxes could definitely use some leveling. There are a lot of holes where you struggle to find a flat spot on the tee box, but it is a Municipal course and you shouldn't expect perfection.

Overall great place to play. Great place to score. Expect slow play, but you can have confidence that the course will be in good shape.

I checked it off the list...but that's about all I can say. It's a once in a lifetime course that I can say I played. There are much better courses out there for less than half the price. The customer service is great from the employee stand point. But the price of anything to eat or drink, or anything in the pro shop is so over priced it's a joke. This course does have some magnificent views and great holes, but it is a very grueling round. The course demands every shot not to be good, but perfect. Good shots are not rewarded on this course but punished. I got some great pictures, but I will never go back unless it is on someone else's dime.

So happy that I'm an NCGA member and I get to place this gem at a steep discount. Everything about this course to me is absolutely perfect. It is very challenging, but fair. If you hit a good shot, you will be rewarded, and if you hit a bad shot you will be punished but will still have a chance to play your ball. The only bad thing I can say about the course is that it should never end.

Great Course that anyone can play. Extremely enjoyable round. Provides numerous scoring opportunities, but the greens can be slippery and tricky. You are still going to have to earn your scoring opportunities. Stay out of the ice plants and Sand Dunes on the back and be sure to take a look at the local rules. They will come in handy. The pictures that you can take on holes 11-17 are worth the greens fee alone. I will definitely be back soon.

Played on Monday 5/25. Course was in great condition but was a little too gimmicky for my taste. The greens rolled true but there were numerous instances where good shots were not rewarded with scoring chances. Definitely a course that requires knowledge of where the safe places to miss are. I'd go back for the price, but I'm not in any rush to make the trek out to Napa from the Peninsula anytime soon.
