played weekend of 3/12/11, mountain canyon. pace was slow for cinnabar, took almost 5 hrs. greens are pretty good, receptive, a bit slower than I'm used to here. but solid. fairways/rough in fine shape. tee boxes (cinnabar tees) are getting to be fairly crowned, tough to find a level lie. overall very good condition, only a few wet spots, but no restrictions on carts.

played 2/20/11, twilight round at 115p. barely finished in twilight at ~540, so it can be done. conditioning was awesome* - greens are firm and fast, roll true. (*caveat - the putting green on the right side of the range was a total red herring - slow as molasses, so I pumped it 10 feet by the hole for the first couple holes. (at) #%*!) For a first timer, the course is a bit disorienting - several blind tee shots or you often can't see the entire hole so you don't really know where to aim off the tee. (I ended up trying to stream the video flyovers on my phone during our round, thanks for nuthin AT&T). Good variety of holes and shot values though, will definitely return if i have the chance. Spectacular views of the ocean at sunset!

played 2/17/11. conditions generally ok, greens were great, receptive but rolling pretty fast and true. agree with previous poster, fairways were brown (odd given all the rain lately) but that doesn't bother me so much. traps were packed (prolly b/c of rain). fun course, good variety of holes, generous fairways for the most part and you see what you get. could do without hole #10 but that's being picky. rack rate is pricey, more manageable with golfnow

played last weekend (1/8/11). course is in pretty good shape considering the recent rains and overnight frost. I walked, but many fairways were open to carts which was pretty surprising. greens are in very good shape for this time of year. rough is cut down, pretty forgiving. fairways were wet in low areas (approach to 15 was the worst). makes for very "tight" lies, but i didn't lose a shoe in muck or anything so i guess it was ok. still a great deal!

played 9/24 early am. (golfnow, whadda bargain...) lake/mountain, which was nice. redoing/widening fairway bunkers on lake 3, played as GUR. greens are in pretty good shape for here, which is to say they're in great shape overall. firm, rolling well. overall great condition, dependability of conditioning keeps me coming back (and having to play canyon 9 always makes me reconsider). pace of play was an issue, i guess you never know who's going to sign up for early morning rounds.

played 9/3, mid am tee time. pace was slow, waited on most every shot for about 14 holes. Marshals don't seem to care much or understand the concept of bottlenecks, group behind us was told they should keep up when the problem as usual was a few groups ahead of us. Greens are still in great shape, though a bit slower than last week, which is more realistic for these greens.

played 8/27. i'm not always a fan of this course, but right now the conditions are awesome...greens are rolling fast and true, healthy without any browning. almost too fast for many of the contours - if you're in the wrong place, play several feet of break and you can still have an uphill comeback putt of 5 feet. fairways are dry/brown in spots from the recent heat, but firm/fast fairways are a good thing as far as i'm concerned. if callippe is in your usual rotation, get out there now! and if you're so inclined, the replay rate is $18, can't beat that with a bat.

played 8/20am, chard/zin. fog in the am, which was unusual. they verticut the greens ~1 wk ago, and they were still showing scars, rolling slow and bumpy compared to usual. nothing egregious, but just not up to the usual quality here. (the practice green across the street from the clubhouse wasn't aerated, so a bit deceiving). i would think they will get better pretty quickly. rest of course was fine, except it seems the bunkers are always overwatered here. they may dry out by afternoon, but in the mornings they are like wet concrete. best to avoid them i guess!

played 8/14, 2nd group off. no fog, which was a bonus. they had top dressed a handful of fairways without punching, so sandy lies on the fairways, but nothing terrible. the handful of bunkers i got into were all very thin, almost no sand. that said, rest of course is in good shape, greens are receptive, a little shaggy but rolling true. a solid track, always enjoyable. as always, golfnow makes it a good deal, comparable to ncga rate. as an aside, amusing to have the concours in town, at about 930a or so the boys with their toys started roaring through the forest. (gas...brake. gas...brake. gas...brake.) i think several trees died over the weekend from all the carbon monoxide.

played 8/13, afternoon replay after bayonet in the am. interesting design philosophy - forgiving off the tee, but greens are heavily defended, with difficult runups, and multiple tiers with lots of movement that bring 3 putts into play at > 15 feet or so. has a gaudy feel to it. certainly the fingered bunkers are eye candy, must be a b***h to maintain. same comment as bayonet about the greens - didn't roll as pure as i'd expect bentgrass to roll, but i also wouldn't be surprised if they have not been able to keep poa out given how prevalent it is here. still, overall a very solid track, and replay rate of $55 makes it a good deal. afternoon brings the wind into play, but it was manageable that day (1/2 to 1 club at most).

played 8/13, double header with bayonet in the am. pace was decent for a 4some, 4:15 or so. first time playing the entire course post renovation for me. conditioning is much improved, course is in very good shape. greens were a bit of a mystery to me, i'm no golf agronomy expert, i had read about the new bentgrass greens but they didn't seem like the fine-bladed bentgrass i've played on before, maybe they are dealing with poa invasion already. rolls were a little bumpy but pretty true. great practice areas and range. good deals to be had on golfnow, rack rate is pricey.

played 7/1, 650a. pace was average, took about 5 hrs with a lot of hurry up and wait, even while walking. conditions were good, not great, greens continue to be slow and bumpy. if i lived locally, couldn't beat the resident rate, but as it is, there are better options around the bay area for the $. i think a lot of it is finishing with that silly 18th hole.
