Conditions update: Played the course on Sunday and it's in great shape. Greens are rolling fast but very receptive to approach shots. There's also a deal on Golf Moose. I highly recommend playing this course right now!

Just an Update here - Played the course on 4/17/15 and it's in great shape. Greens were smooth and quicker than normal. Bunkers have a good amount of sand tee boxes are level. Fairways are in good shape. If you want more details about the course you can check my earlier post.

I've reviewed this course before, but I like to update people on the conditions in case they are considering this for a round. Course is in great shape right now. Played last weekend and the greens are perfect. It's a great course and the advance rate was $49 with cart on Sunday. Hard to beat that.

Just to update everyone - I like the course in spring summer and fall, but right now it's a mud pit. Played it a week ago and we haven't had rain in over 3 weeks and it's still muddy everywhere. It just doesn't drain well. If there has been any appreciable rain, skip this course for a while.

Played Timber on 11/2 and the course is in great shape. Greens rolling good, very few pock marks on them, however just a little slower than I like. They really are in great shape. The course conditions overall are very good. If you haven't played it you'll enjoy it. The front 9 winds through the houses while the back is mostly through the woods. It has a number of interesting holes but nothing tricked up or goofy. The signature hole is 18 with a waterfall on the left, just in driving distance. A good tee shot to the right of the fall can give you a chance to get home in 2 on this par 5. Practice facility is nice with chipping area (including bunker), separate putting green, and driving range. It has a small club house but the staff is friendly. If you go take advantage of the 5 day advance rate which is $59 W/cart on the weekend.

Just an update since July. Course is still in real good shape. Greens were smooth and rolling nicely although they are plugging today so wait a few weeks to go. If you haven't played it, it's a fun track with a good mix of challenging holes and scoring holes. The signature hole is the 18th with a split fairway that has a large pond in the middle. Great hole. Small pro shop, didn't see a cart girl on Sunday so good luck during the week. I paid $43 with a cart this past Sunday so it was absolutely worth the price.

Lincoln Hills is a very nice layout with some fun holes. Course is pretty good shape right now although the greens are slower than they look. They're mostly smooth (some poa patches) but slow. Everything else about the course is in good shape. They have one of the better practice facilities in the area with a large putting green and chipping area behind a large range.

Played Haggin on 4/18 and I have to say the Greens were the best I've ever seen them. Rolling fast and smooth, yet spongy and receptive. I liked it so much I'm going back this weekend. It's an older course so in the winter drainage can be an issue, but not this time of year. It could brown up if water runs low in the valley, but right now it's perfect. The tee boxes are generally in good shape, the fairways are at a nice length (not too tight) and the rough is - the rough. You can find bare spots and dirt or longer thick stuff. If you haven't played here the practice area is awesome. You can demo any club imaginable. Hard to say what the signature hole would be. None of them come right out and grab you, but the course is nicely laid out and provides for a fun round.

Played the course on 2/15/2013. The course is in great shape although the greens are a little slower than usual. If you haven't played it, there are a mix of easy holes and some very challenging ones. Some holes are very forgiving and some very penal. Overall this is a course that will suit all abilities and provide an enjoyable round. Also note that this course drains extremely well. If it's been raining (which it has not) this is the course to play.

Played last weekend and as most courses in the Northern California area this year, the fairways are firm and tight. This is mainly due to the lack of rain and is not typical for this time of year. All in all the course was in decent shape. Greens were nice and runnning at a medium pace. Bunkers had plenty of sand although it's a little heavy. If you haven't played the course it's pretty flat and winds through mature oaks and pines - lots of them!! Keep it between the trees and you're fine here. If not expect to be hitting punch shots. As mentioned in other reviews there is a lot of wildlife and the surroundings are quite pleasant. The signature hole has to be #16. It's along par 4 with a huge oak right in the middle of the fairway, which makes for a tight drivingt window. Good luck making par on this hole. Let me give you one piece of advice. If you have food in your cart, guard it with your life. Squirles and birds are very used to humans and have no qualms about stealing your stuff. Last week my zipper was open (on my golf bag) exposing a bag of sunflower seeds. Standing on the 11 green I noticed a squirl going to town. I've seen them grab Rees's, muffins, you name it. One time (on the 10th tee box) a squirl grabbed my buddies lighter and ran up the tree with it. He eventualy dropped it. It's a good track with plenty of challenges in a pleasant setting. Conditions have been better, but it's definetly a fun round.

Played a matchplay tournament at Empire last Saturday 1/12. The course is in decent shape although the fairways are pretty thin and firm. I'm not surprised with the recent lack of rain. The greens are in great pretty good shape and are really fast. They're soft enough that approaches will leave a good ball mark and stick but they are fast. I hit a 5 iron into the par 5 3rd and it stopped within 6 feest of where it hit. All in all the course is playing nicely. For those that haven't played it, give it a shot. It's a little on the easier side if you're not looking for a super challenge. It's alittle pricey for what you get, but not bad. The practice facility is a little funky. They have a large putting green. The only probelm it's about 200yds from the first tee and the driving range. There is a littl chipping area down by the first tee that you can also putt on. Good luck and hope you enjoy the post.

Since there hasn't been a recent review I wanted to update anyone thinking of playing Whitney. I played it yesterday 1/5/2014. If you haven't played it, you'll find it one of the more challenging courses in the Sacramento area. The fairways are bermuda, so right now they are brown. It looks ugly, but it's very playable. The greens are in great shape, fairly fast and most have a good amount of break. I had several puts from above the hole that I had no chance of stopping. As I said this course will challenge you. I didn't find any bunkers but my playing partners did and in most cases the sand was pretty thin. Taking too much sand equated to club bounce. With all that said, it's a beautiful track (Fairways not withstanding) and the practice area is one of the best in the area. I like the course but for higher handicappers it may be a day of frustration. Happy New year
