Played Yucaipa Valley on Saturday, May 30th. This is the first time I've been back since my last review and was hoping to have something different to write, but unfortunately it's the same old routine.

We did tee off at our scheduled tee-time, which was a pleasant surprise. As far as the pace of play, we didn't have a problem moving along only because a couple of the guys we played with averaged 8's and 9's on just about every hole. I'm sure the folks behind us enjoyed seeing the errant shots.

The front nine is probably the worst I have seen it since the golf course opened in 2000! The greens were extremely sandy, slow, divot-ridden, and just not taken care of. The bunker edges looked as though they were cut in pitch dark, as they were choppy and gouged. The fairways were thin and at times had weeds growing in them. The fairway also was dirt at times, and small clumps of grass for an almost impossible approach shot. It's a shame to be penalized for keeping your ball in the fairway. The lakes throughout had weeds growing around them and cart paths had grass growing onto the concrete. The course just looks unkept. The GPS was nice but many times gave us the wrong yardages so we abandoned that around hole #4. There was no marshal anywhere, again. We did see a beverage cart several times, which was a nice change.

One of the major problems with this golf course is that the tee boxes are awful! Out of the first 9 holes, I remember there only being 2 or 3 flat lies. This has been a problem for quite awhile and I still don't understand why they don't grade them and make them better.

The back 9 was not quite as bad as the front. The back 9 has always been in better shape. Still there were very thin, muddy, clumpy lies in the fairways and the greens again were very sandy and a bit slow. I don't mind greens being slow or fast, I just want some kind of consistency.

My overall grade for Yucaipa is a 2 out of 10!

The cheap green fees they offer, are exactly that. CHEAP! You are getting what you pay for. And what you are getting is a below average golf course that has started to become one of the worst in the area. That's kinda sad considering there aren't that many golf courses to compare it to.

Played Yucaipa over the weekend and was very, very un-impressed. We got there about an hour early to get some food and hit some range balls. It wouldn't be a stretch to say that the best thing about our day was the food. We ended up teeing off 45 minutes late and although the starter was very friendly, it seemed as though he was having a hard time getting the shop staff organized. We have had this problem before with having our tee time moved back or even worse getting booked at the same time as someone else. We are 3 & 5 handicap golfers and play at a fast pace, but it seemed as though the people in front of us were playing slow on purpose. We never saw a marshal on the front or back nine to help speed up play. The staff that we did talk to said that they didn't understand either why there were no marshals.
All in all it took us 5 1/2 hours to play a round of golf! The tee boxes were the worst I may have ever seen. Not an even, flat lie on any of them. The fairways were okay in some spots and chewed up in most. The greens used to be the best part of the course, I guess that is out the window as well. I am very sad to see what has happened at Yucaipa over the last year or two and don't think I will be back there for quite awhile. Even with the discounted rates they offer, unfortunately it's still not worth the hassle. I hope that they get things straightened out up there, because that course has the potential to be one of the best in the Inland Emire. I have also been a part of many tournaments up there and a lot of those groups I played with no longer hold there tournaments at Yucaipa.

Unless you like 5 1/2 or 6 hour rounds and no marshals to keep the sanity out there...Go somewhere else!
