We played as a twosome on Saturday, November 19th 2016. We tried to check in about 30 minutes before our tee time but the pro shop wouldn't do it. They said they'd call us. I tried to get him to tell me WHEN they'd call us, because I knew we wouldn't be able to hear it if we were on the driving range, which is all the way on the other side of the parking lot. He wasn't interested in that; he just knew he couldn't take our money yet. Whatever.

The gentleman that runs the driving range greeted me with a shocking racist slur. Not directed toward me, but shocking still the same. I didn't acknowledge his quip.

After warming up, we headed back to the pro shop to pay and get a cart. Montebello has no problem putting fivesomes out there. However, they didn't have anyone to pair us with, so we played as a twosome, following a threesome and ahead of a fivesome. So, it was a pretty slow round.

The course was in just fair shape, overall. The tees were very level but quite gouged up. The fairways were just OK with some bare spots and lies were a crapshoot. The rough was just fairway with longer grass. The greens were the best part of this course, very nice and not too marked up. They ran medium speed but very fun.

Bunkers were very firm with not a lot of sand. Fairway bunkers were easy to hit out of but greenside bunkers were iffy as to what kind of lie you would get.

There was a drink cart, which was good because as we made the turn, we were informed that the snack bar was closed due to flooding. As we drove past it on our way to the 10th tee, we discovered that the flooding was apparently raw sewage. So, something catastrophic must have happened.

Overall, not great but not too bad.

Played Saturday and Sunday, November 5th & 6th. The course had been recently overseeded and we were one of the first to play after "cart path only" was lifted.

Conditions were lush with the fairways in really great shape. The tees were not quite as lush, but certainly more than playable after hunting around for a good, level spot.

I was on the practice green prior to Saturday's round and it was quite slow, almost as if the mower was set incorrectly. I thought "this is useless, surely the course greens aren't like this"!

But, they were. I suppose if this were due to recent aeration and seeding, that might be appropriate. The thing that confused me though, was the almost comical number of unrepaired ball marks. It was hard to believe, actually. I never really did get used to the lack of speed on the greens, leaving almost everything short.

The bunkers were just OK; some of them didn't have much sand in the lower, flat portions. But, they were playable.

Still, this is one of my favorite courses. The surroundings are beautiful and the course really catches your eye with its current deep-green color. The Resort course has a very interesting layout, in my opinion. Plus, the course's management really does a fine job taking care of the patrons as they lay out a very good buffet for breakfast and lunch. The food was delicious and the service was great! I suppose they don't do that for general open play, but they always take fantastic care of us as this was the 3rd time we've had our club championship there (FedEx golf club). I'm sure it won't be the last time, either.

Played a two-day tournament here on the weekend of November 7 & 8th, 2015. Tee boxes were good with minimal divots (par 3s had more, naturally). Fairways are improving and must be filling in based on the most recent review (2 months ago) which stated that there were lots of bare spots. We found the fairways to be mostly good with some thin spots, but not bad at all. Greens were quite good but very soft and ball marks were deep, but fortunately players seemed to be repairing them for the most part. Green speed was medium-fast and there were some pretty scary hole locations on significant slopes! Bunkers were just fine with plenty of sand, although some of the less-used ones showed some grass growing in sections of them. Pace of play was poor (6 hours), but that was more a result of us playing a shotgun start with a lot of players. Clubhouse is gorgeous and the staff is very friendly. The facilities as a whole are very nice indeed. The range is a little bit far from the clubhouse so they shuttle you over there which works very well. The range is also very good with plenty of excellent grass lies, no mats here! Overall, a very enjoyable weekend!

We played Mountain Meadows on Saturday morning, 10/24/15. There's one thing I can say about American Golf, they never saw a fivesome that they didn't like. Almost every group was a fivesome and we got "paired" with three other players as well. The starter tried to tell me that the problem isn't that there are fivesomes, but that the players all play too slow. I had to suggest that we agree to disagree on that point. Our pace of play was about 5-1/2 hours.

Regarding course conditions, the greens were very nice, holding shots well and not too beat up with ball marks, although I didn't have any trouble fixing at least 3 or 4 on every green. Speed was medium fast. To the course's credit, they are doing quite a bit of bunker renovation and replacing the sand with that nice, fluffy white sand. The fairways are still healing from being punched, very large divot-sized punches. The tee boxes were quite shaggy, not to the point of having a large effect, but it seemed like maybe they hadn't been mowed very recently. There was a drink cart and she came by often enough, but she didn't really have much of a supply on the cart, other than plenty of beer. Unfortunately, we weren't drinking beer.

Overall, it was "fine", but nothing really positive to shout about, and nothing really all that terrible.

We played Sierra Lakes on 9/27/15 with an 11:38 tee time. Aeration had been done on 8/30/15 and 8/31/15 and the greens were fully healed. However, there were lots of unrepaired ball marks, which is typical for this course. The greens however, were receptive and rolled medium fast and pretty smooth. Tee boxes were very good and level. Fairways were ok, but there were many unrepaired divots. Rough was quite good, but not too penal. Bunkers were also very good with plenty of sand. I was surprised that there weren't too many players on this Sunday afternoon. In fact, we played as a twosome. There was no drink cart on this Sunday. But, the pro shop and snack bar staff were friendly as always. We always enjoy playing Sierra Lakes and will be back soon!

It's not hard to say too many good things about Goose Creek. It really is one of the very best courses in southern California, not only for the good conditions but also for the great service and staff. It's simply very good value.

We played the GK Plays day on 8/31/15. This was also the day that a USGA Mid-Amateur sectional qualifier was held, so conditions were even more challenging with deep rough and difficult hole locations. From the fairway, some of those pins didn't even look like they were ON the green!

Green speeds were moderately fast, but the greens were somewhat soft and receptive. Well-struck approach shots were rewarded with good looks at birdie. I just wish I'd made a few of the ones I had.

Course conditions were just more of what we have come to expect at the Goose. It's just very hard to really even find anything to complain about. Tee boxes, fairways, rough and bunkers were a notch above. It was an all-around pleasure to play.

The course not only gave us a very good rate, but added value by including a short-game clinic and tour of the fantastic teaching and clubmaking facilities. All staff personnel were so friendly and really made a big difference in our enjoyment of the day.

If you're one of the few that haven't experienced this gem, what are you waiting for? Make a time and get out there, you won't be sorry!

Played on 3/29/15 at 10:30. POP was a bit slow; we waited a little on nearly every shot. Round took a full 5 hours to complete.

At first glance, you could tell that conditions were dry. I assume that they are under a water restriction, although I didn't ask. Tees and greens were pretty nice. Rough was minimal and fairways were extremely fast and firm. Bunkers had plentiful sand and were in very good condition. The greens ran fast and true, make sure you factor in the "hill effect" - everything runs toward the I-15 freeway.

Service was excellent and we saw the cart girl 3 or 4 times during the round.

So, even though the course is very thirsty, it is still fully playable and was a lot of fun.

(My first review, yay!)

We used the voucher we won at the Indian Wells event for Anthem Revere Concord on 1/7/15. We got very lucky on picking that date because the weather was absolutely perfect! A few days on either side and it wouldn't have been nearly as nice.

I thought that this course has a very interesting layout with some spectacular views of the Las Vegas strip area as well as the surrounding hills and residential areas. At this time of year, the rough is dormant and provides a striking visual contrast between the light-colored rough and dark green fairways. Even though the rough is dormant, it isn't any easier and the ball really nestles down into it. It is swirly and twisty and you have to really guess as to how much resistance it will provide to the clubhead. Short chips around the greens were very challenging.

The greens and especially tees were very sandy, although the greens were still quite playable. We lucked out and picked a day with hardly any wind, but I can see how hitting fairways here would be pretty tough on a windy day. The bunkers seemed to be pretty nice although I was only in one. There seemed to be a shortage of rakes on most holes, especially near the numerous large fairway bunkers.

The staff were very friendly and even moved our starting time back for us because they were having a private event in their restaurant which meant we had to go find a place to have breakfast making us a little late. There are numerous practice putting and chipping areas to use and the driving range is all grass. The clubhouse and facilities are really nice. We'd return to Revere for sure!
